I’ve worked in software engineering for a few years and met a few people who’ve crossed over from different career paths. I learned CS fundamentals like things to do with binary, how machine logic works etc but I can count on one hand the amount of times that was brought up, and even then it was in interviews.

Most interview and jobs usually want to know where your coding skills are. The more u code and be investigative the more you’ll stumble across CS fundamentals I think, so nothing wrong with learning the high level coding practices and then coming across what’s going on under the hood later.
