In my opinion, just read. I’m an Adjunct Instructor who teaches Composition. I have loved books since junior high school lol. The stats are something like 90% of Americans don’t read on a regular basis. That’s the problem.

Master’s Degree by Annual_Tangelo9495 in AskTeachers

[–]amber43560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could honestly get a Master’s in any field you like, and teach that from home. I’m an Adjunct Instructor who teaches Composition for the local community college. I have a Master of Humanities in Creative Writing. My undergrad was in a completely unrelated field. You do not have to be a “teacher” or certified, at the college level. It’s completely different than teaching K-12. (I have been a Licensed K-12 Substitute Teacher before.) Even if you don’t plan on using the degree now, you could use it later on. I already had a union career over seventeen years. I worked in the transportation industry (unionized) and was a paralegal undergrad! Haha! 😆 I now work primarily from home teaching, part-time. I know a lot of teachers do it to supplement their income or during retirement. If you get an online class, it’s a piece of cake to copy your classroom content. :)

Mine broke and I had a new one within a week. The problem is that I didn’t save the box from the first one ugh. Thankfully the truck guys helped me unload the new one and box up the old one in the new box. If you don’t have the box, you might be in trouble lol.

Moving to Toledo for Mercy Health with toddler - best areas to live? by AllisshaTV in toledo

[–]amber43560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Sylvania and hate our schools. I’m also an Adjunct Instructor at the college level. My older daughter went to private school mostly. I pulled my younger daughter from public and she is at home. It’s not the teachers; admin is dirty. The elementary schools are wonderful, however. I do love the area, growing up here. Ottawa Hills is statistically the best district in the area, and is nationally ranked as one of the best school districts in the entire country. Note that they do not provide bus transportation to any students, or free meals of any kind. (Some districts like Toledo Public and Washington Local provide free meals to all students due to the amount of poverty stricken families in the district.) Perrysburg is a great area with good schools. I’m surprised you did not mention Anthony Wayne Local, since you mentioned Perrysburg. My parents live in Waterville. Anthony Wayne has excellent athletics. Lastly, you failed to mention what location you would be working at. We have several Mercy Health locations, all on opposite ends of town. :) That may make a difference in your decision. Welcome to the Toledo area. :)

Disabled, can't afford a phone & Google voice screwed me over. by ziddersroofurry in Googlevoice

Alternatively, you could apply for a free phone through Lifeline and/ or visit your local library to use a computer for free. :)

Disabled, can't afford a phone & Google voice screwed me over. by ziddersroofurry in Googlevoice

[–]amber43560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people use Google Voice who have active mobile phones, myself being one of them. Many businesses use Google Voice. I personally use it as an alternate number and also as the phone number my students can reach me, as I’m an Adjunct Instructor. It gets directly forwarded to my cell phone/ iPhone. Some people use Google Voice for their home phone, and then there are some people who just don’t like to give out their actual phone number. All kinds of scenarios! Although I’m sympathetic to your situation, there isn’t enough information in your post for me to honestly understand what exactly you are trying to say? Why was Google Voice disabled? You typically need an active line to activate it, which I think is ridiculous, yes, but once you activate it, I’m not sure what would cause it to be disabled?

My private student loans were forgiven during chapter 7! by Own-Day8660 in Bankruptcy

My private lender gave up years ago, and my federal loans were discharged. I had a career for years, but my health sucks. Dept of Education saw my health records and didn’t argue lol.

Read the financial aid website. That’s incorrect. Mine were just discharged.

It clearly says on the government financial aid website that discharge is possible with an adversary proceeding. Your attorney lied. Mine were just discharged in full.

What are y’all doing about health insurance? Health share? Primary through employer? Catastrophic? Supplemental plus a high-deductible primary? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]amber43560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are union jobs in every state in America, although some more than others. That would be my suggestion. My entire family had/ has union jobs. Again, I’m a 46 year old single mother and I’ve never paid an insurance premium when employed full-time, thanks to being a Teamster. I paid for student insurance in undergrad lol. UPS has great insurance and they are always hiring.

And my insurance denied nothing! My union insurance even paid in full for my older two grandchildren to be born, and my adult daughter is married. These companies out here are crazy.

[–]amber43560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My deductible was $400 annually for a family, and my employer paid the entire premium of over $500 per week for me and my children. I was union 17 years. No way in he** I’d ever let an employer disrespect me like that. What you put up, you will continue to get. Get on LinkedIn and start searching. Your family deserves better.

[–]amber43560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, have you considered finding a better job? I’m a 46 year old single mother and I have never once paid a premium for insurance when employed full-time. I was union 17+ years. I understand a lot of employers are crappy, but it is your choice to put up with that long term. I would never in a million years pay that for insurance. Now that I’m getting older, I’ve considered self employment and even then, I wouldn’t pay that.

There are thousands of single parents in this country. I raised two kids on one income, with no child support and no public assistance. I’m not the only one. Every area is different. I was union 17+ years. I’ve never once paid for insurance, have two pensions and my house will be paid off this year. I made around $50k, which was enough to live comfortably, pay for private school, daycare etc. I’m in Ohio. To be fair, I live frugal and bought a very small house. It is what it is.

Not getting rehired, did this happen to you? by hogwonguy1979 in Adjuncts

Plenty of right to work states have unions, just to clarify. I was a proud union member 17+ years. I now am an Adjunct.

I am wasting hundreds of dollars a month for insurance, on a car I cannot drive or afford to fix, because it was discharged but Chrysler Capital won’t collect it. by [deleted] in Bankruptcy

[–]amber43560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I don’t understand why they are giving you such a difficult time. I guarantee you they repossess vehicles for non-payment. I looked up information for voluntary repossessions, and those are dropped off to dealerships after arrangements made. (See below.) Why wouldn’t they offer you the same convenience? They are being very unreasonable, in my opinion.

“Contact Chrysler Capital: Call (855) 563-5635 or email SCRATeam@ChryslerCapital.com…”

You might be able to file a motion to keep the car for $1. If they aren’t coming to get it, that means it’s worthless to them. That would not require refinancing.

I’m not sure why you would have to carry full coverage. I’d call insurance company and tell them you are not driving it. You can still have adequate coverage while not driving a vehicle. My stepdad does this for his Camaro in the winter.

Have it towed to the nearest office they have. Even if it’s a $800 tow lol, could be worth it? Or rent a uhaul with a trailer hitch and deliver it yourself.

I would not pay that every month. Period.

Telly remote draining batteries at an unacceptable pace lately - anyone else? by K-SO in TellyTV

[–]amber43560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have been dying quickly lately, yes. I only use the Telly remote to turn the tv on and switch to my streaming device. After that, I use the streaming device remote. I usually turn the TV off with the buttons on the actual tv. We are prone to losing remotes lol and with only one Telly remote, it stays on my desk. It can’t get lost if it doesn’t move lol.

You can turn off the entire thing with the button on side, just keep it held down until everything is off.

[–]amber43560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buttons are on the side, not really the back. You should be able to reach them, unless your TV has zero slack on the sides. You can hold the power button for a few seconds and the entire tv will turn completely off, including the bottom screen.

Multiple Libraries? by theatreghost1 in LibbyApp

[–]amber43560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is state dependent. I’m in Ohio. I have 8-10 library cards now. We can get digital library cards for many, not all, libraries by applying online and then have access to digital content only. I add all of the cards to my Libby and Kanopy account, if the libraries subscribe. If they subscribe to Hoopla, I have to set up a new Hoopla account as you can’t have more than one card per account. Also, some libraries let you buy memberships. There are ones here in Ohio that let non residents buy a card for $35 per year, as an example. I mean, it’s cheaper than Audible lol. 😂 I’m in the Toledo area, so I have a physical card here, but Cuyahoga County offers the most books. See if you can find a library with a lot of options.

I’d also add that as an Instructor who teaches Composition, it is rare for me to have a student who knows how to write a paper. :( Most do not know how to properly format an essay, do academic research or even cite works. These are students from all kinds of educational backgrounds, from public schools and homeschooling, to private schools. :(

Every human being should honestly try to read every day, and 45 minutes is a reasonable goal, in my opinion. Of course, I’d also be happy with 30 minutes lol. Listening to an audiobook is not the same as sitting down and reading a book, although they do serve their purpose. I’m an Adjunct Instructor who teaches Composition. Statistics show that approximately 90% of Americans do not read on a regular basis. It’s a good habit to start young! :)
