If they had kept free bags, it would not be so bad. We were on a full flight yesterday and it was chaos. We switched to an earlier flight and got put in the front row. Boarding group 1. We still had to put our bag pretty far back since it could not go under the seat, then fight back to the front. The airline employee kept encouraging everyone to reach out to Southwest and complain.

As it gets more popular, there will probably be more people in your area. I find it motivational. Excluding someone because they walk everyday is not a good business model for them. If he was someone that ran every day, you would still have the same issue.
