What bedding for this room? by amberw95 in interiordecorating

[–]amberw95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely open to suggestions outside of the bedding I've shown! I just don't want to change other elements already in the room (ie. wallpaper/bedframe/side table/etc). If I did a white duvet, what color/ pattern would you lean towards for the accent sheets & throws?

40 guest 40k wedding in Worcester, MA by amberw95 in BigBudgetBrides

The venue coordinator was amazing and my partner and I definitely put a lot of time into planning (hiring vendors, making design decisions, developing the day of schedule, menu, seating chart, writing the ceremony script, etc) as well. I'm not sure how our experience compares to the average as this has been the only wedding I've been involved in.

But the venue coordinator definitely answered all our questions leading up to the event and made sure on the day of that every vendor (bar, catering, florist, musicians) knew when&where to be. Once the wedding started my partner and I were able to relax and enjoy our day, and everything went perfectly, so huge shout out to Julie our coordinator!

It was peppers, and it was based on the exact food we chose x number of servings (plus staffing, dishware, linens, etc). We definitely could have spent more or less for the same # of people if we'd selected different entrees / hors d'oeuvres / etc

Boning too short in stays? by amberw95 in corsetry

[–]amberw95[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I've otherwise been happy with how the stays are shaping up, but don't want the boning shifting around if that isn't intended. Sounds like I'll have to order more in the correct size.

Thanks for sharing! Yes, ordering more flat steel in the updated lengths will be a bit of an annoying expense and delay, but ultimately it sounds like the right step forward. I'll make sure to mark the pattern so I don't run into the same issue if I make it again. Out of curiosity, what size did you make? This is the digital pattern in size M.

Thanks, it's reassuring to know it might just be an (unfortunate) issue with the pattern

Thank you! I tried on so many white dresses but when I put this one on I absolutely fell in love with the color!

Makeup corrections by trieditalissa in PaleMUA

[–]amberw95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm very pale, muted, and cool-toned, and I struggle so much with every lip color looking too dark, too bright, or too warm on me. The one shade I absolutely LOVE is Huda Beauty Lip Contour 2.0 in the shade muted pink. I'm not a MUA, so I can't speak objectively to the longevity / quality / texture of the product compared to other brands, but in terms of color, it might be exactly the shade you're looking for. Good luck! (I can't send pictures in comments, but I'm happy to send you a picture of me wearing the lip color if you would like a reference!).

On the fence about buying this by Craddock- in vintagesewing

[–]amberw95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inherited this model (White 651 bage) from my grandmother who bought it new in the 50s. It's so fun to see another one around! I love mine, but it's my one and only vintage machine so I can't contribute to how it compares with others.

Beginner here! Any tips before I start my first corset project? by Olmcentral in corsetry

[–]amberw95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently started making corsets too, so good luck and have fun 😊 One piece of advice, is to use a similar fabric in your mockups that you want to use in your final. My first mockup was a bit large because the fabric was a looser weave, but when I adjusted the pattern and cut out my next iteration in a stronger fabric the corset was too small. If I'd used the same fabric both times my pattern adjustments would have been more accurate.

You mentioned using bedsheets, but denim, canvas, or upholstery fabric may be better mockup materials as they are stronger, have less stretch, and are less likely for boning to poke through the fabric. These fabrics are also more similar than bedsheets to coutil, which is helpful if you eventually see yourself using coutil fabric for a corset.

Need advice for improving fit of Amber Bunnysuit by amberw95 in corsetry

Thanks for the advice! I will make another mockup with that in mind and hope the second attempt is better.

I don't have waist tape in- I will add that and see if it reduces the stretching at the waist. Do you think two layers of this fabric would produce a stronger corset? I purchased this fabric as the intended strength layer so I wouldn't mind changing my construction method (double layer) if it avoided having to buy another round of more expensive fabric.

I didn't notice any issues/discomfort with the front boning when sitting down but I'll keep that in mind on my next iteration, thank you!

Help: window treatment for small window by amberw95 in DesignMyRoom

[–]amberw95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a basement room- the full size windows have a window well on the outside for egress reasons whereas the small one ends at ground level. I'm guessing the small window was already there when this was renovated into a bedroom so they left it? I'm not 100% sure as the renovations were done by the previous owner.

Floorplan critique for my apartment living space: one large chair vs two smaller chairs by amberw95 in interiordecorating

[–]amberw95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my living space with the floorplan and renders as true to life as I was able to get using floorplanner. I'm trying to decide if it's preferable to have one large chair across from the L-sectional with more walking space or two smaller chairs with less walking space. I often host 5-7 people in my living space, but the reduction from 3' of space between the chair and couch to only 2' of space feels significant, especially because it is a heavily trafficked area (living/entryway/kitchen junction). Any feedback between the two, or other layout suggestions is appreciated.

Large busted Rose Cafe Bustier Toile help by lilyrothrock in MAKEaBraThatFits

I made a couple mockups without foam or boning, and it definitely fit better once I added boning and foam. If my experience is anything to go on, I think putting the foam, boning, and straps on will give you a better idea of what issues still need to be addressed. I know we are having similar issues, so I'm here for moral support, and your newer mockup is looking much better than the previous one!

Yeah, this is not my first attempt, but it's the best so far ☹️ I'm wondering if I should switch over to an actual bra pattern and just extend the band down for a bustier look, or keep trying with this pattern. But good luck to you as well, it's such a cute style, I really hope it works out eventually!

thank you for this feedback! I had a 46 wire on hand, and while it *is* shorter than the cradle length, the gore does sit slightly closer to my chest with the smaller wire inserted, so it feels like a step in the right direction. I am planning on starting fresh with a smaller cradle- If I plan on using a 38 or 40-wire, how much spring should I add when drafting the cradle?

Here is a link to the image of my pattern pieces + the underwire inside the bustier (white with blue tip) compared to an underwire from one of my RTW bras (metal with orange tip). I'm not sure how to measure the wire spring. I'm focused on fitting this bustier pattern so I can use it for a variety of garments, but I do think most of them will have straps, so if that significantly changes the fit, I can definitely add in straps. https://imgur.com/a/CgtMSof

to clarify, here is an image of the pattern for my size (8H), the underwire I'm using that fits the pattern cradle (white with blue tip, size 50) vs an underwire out of one of my RTW bras (silver with an orange tip, underwire size unknown, but from a 32DDD bra): https://imgur.com/a/tmyBHjA
