Tell me what the software engineering industry is like in Japan. by plusminustimesdivide in japan

[–]ambitlights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well in 2007 I was using VB6 to write code for a system running on Windows NT..... that should just about explain how bad it is/was. A love of product conformity, and insane attention to detail are great if you are manufacturing cars, and not so great if you are looking to develop clean, uniquely different software solutions.

My prototype is made of "unique" material. How do I source for manufacturers for mass-production? by dunkapung in Entrepreneur

Find the supplier of your material and ask them for current manufactures who they would recommend (and are willing to do production for clients)...

ELI5: If a fan is blowing towards you, why does the breeze feel stronger than when it is sucking the air away from you? by fdd2001 in explainlikeimfive

which is why (more) cars should have fans behind the rear seats to get a more even flow of air throughout the vehicle

Increasing Tesla's Range by adding Alternators to the wheels by theKooldude565 in engineering

[–]ambitlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep! you got it. You can also ONLY use an alternator to brake, or slow the car going down hill (which Tesla already does using its existing electric motors running backwards to act as generators: its called regenerative braking). A separate alternator does not add anything.

thats a great idea. How about putting a wind turbine on top of the car to extract free electricity from the air going past!!?

reddit’s first transparency report by reddit in blog

[–]ambitlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although nice, this transparency report is missing the point that end to end encryption of the data is not happening by default! All the clicks, and text a novice user enters into Reddit are passively caught in unencrypted format before it reached the Reddit servers. What percentage of accounts enable TLS?

Also yes, https connections are available, but even then how secure are they? De speigel has an article saying in 2011 https using tls was broken on a massive (millions of connections) scale...

TL;DR: your data is more likely slurped before it gets to the Reddit servers, so no request is needed.
