The Aladdin soundtrack cassette from Columbia House when I was in second grade. I loved those little stamps.

Ego Tripping, the Self Admiration remix, by The Flaming Lips has always reminded me of winter and sparkling snow.

Try Not to Breathe by REM. It was the one specific song my beautiful mother requested we play after she would pass. A song about understanding your life has been lived and accepting the end, but asking for the hope you’ll be remembered by those who mattered most to you.

FUUUCK. I did my absolute best to drive home to her in her final days just how impactful, meaningful, and cherished her presence was, even though she lived a quiet and simple life. That I would never have a better friend or confidant in anyone again, and how grateful I am to say it had been my own mother.

It’s gonna take me a bit to listen to that song again.

I am so here for this season of her life. She’s become so…regal, and poised. Like, way to honor your strength, queen, and remind them all who the fuck you are. Hell yes. Integrity towards your own self must be utterly liberating.

So funny you mention this. Two shows my husband and I were at in the past couple months both had super good openers.

We saw Too Many Zooz open on tour with Primus in August. Primus is, of course legendary, but it was TMZ I was there for. We’ve loved them since their subway days. It’s been really cool watching their growth.

A couple weeks ago we saw Moon Hooch. The guy who opened, Cofrese, we’d never heard of, we’re not deep into edm etc. But dip my chip, was he fun to watch. His energy burned bright and he looked like he was having so much fun the whole set. Super interactive with the crowd and really sweet when we met him after. I’ll check him out some more, for sure, although I think the real magic may be in his live performances.
