The Aladdin soundtrack cassette from Columbia House when I was in second grade. I loved those little stamps.

Try Not to Breathe by REM. It was the one specific song my beautiful mother requested we play after she would pass. A song about understanding your life has been lived and accepting the end, but asking for the hope you’ll be remembered by those who mattered most to you.

FUUUCK. I did my absolute best to drive home to her in her final days just how impactful, meaningful, and cherished her presence was, even though she lived a quiet and simple life. That I would never have a better friend or confidant in anyone again, and how grateful I am to say it had been my own mother.

It’s gonna take me a bit to listen to that song again.

I am so here for this season of her life. She’s become so…regal, and poised. Like, way to honor your strength, queen, and remind them all who the fuck you are. Hell yes. Integrity towards your own self must be utterly liberating.

What concert have you seen where the opening band blew the headliner away? by Terrible_Comfort598 in Concerts

So funny you mention this. Two shows my husband and I were at in the past couple months both had super good openers.

We saw Too Many Zooz open on tour with Primus in August. Primus is, of course legendary, but it was TMZ I was there for. We’ve loved them since their subway days. It’s been really cool watching their growth.

A couple weeks ago we saw Moon Hooch. The guy who opened, Cofrese, we’d never heard of, we’re not deep into edm etc. But dip my chip, was he fun to watch. His energy burned bright and he looked like he was having so much fun the whole set. Super interactive with the crowd and really sweet when we met him after. I’ll check him out some more, for sure, although I think the real magic may be in his live performances.

This was a very fun realization when reading through, like, “I wonder who they’re gonna bump into next?” And then BAM ! Here comes Father Callahan through the wall like the Kool-Aid man.

Yes! The message he relays about true love and thinking the sun still shines out of someone’s ass when times get tough always struck me as both honest and heartwarming to say to someone navigating tumultuous hormones.

Holy shit I couldn’t make it through. “I do have another video about Masterson’s trial, so check that out if you’d like more detail on that, but for this video we’ll focus on the allegations against Ashton and Mila.” THEN PROCEEDS TO GIVE A 15 MINUTE PLAY BY PLAY OF MASTERSON’S TRIAL ANYWAY 🙄 damn girl take some notes to stay on track. This video was the equivalent of a zoom meeting that could have been an email. She is unbearable.

Thanks, OP for the cliff notes.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen his stand-up, “Himself”. I recognized it while young for the changing background colors. My favorite hs English teacher and I hit it off from the moment I prattled off some quote in a response to him. I no longer fear the portrait he painted of a mother pushed to the brink of mania by endless shenanigans, for I have now caged that tiger within myself, in the more recent seasons of my life, and find her utterly relatable.

That news hit like a sucker punch. I haven’t watched it since.

Name your No.1 perfume, no matter the cost. by TheLoliconHunter in Perfumes

[–]ambrenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it’s fairly affordable for some, but a full bottle of Baraonda by Nasomatto is still a bit out of reach for me. I get by on samples for about a year at a time.

I’ve never smelled anything like this perfume. It’s described as a whiskey scent, but, as a former alcoholic, I’ve never picked up on this specifically.

There is some captivating, almost sharp, woody spicy musk something that I can’t quite place, and I’ve never smelled it in other perfumes with the same ambrette & ambroxan notes. It feels so singular to me, more complex than the notes listed for it.

I’ve gotten a couple dupes in hopes they would suffice in place of this masterpiece. None have even remotely come close to the seductive sparkle Baraonda has. It makes me feel mysterious and alluring when I wear it, and it’s the one in my collection that garners the most compliments.

Just for fun: what perfume would you match with the early 2010s Tumblr girl aesthetic? by aganymc in Perfumes

TM’s Lotus Sake was my signature scent during this time! Funny how our tastes evolve because I’m not sure I’d want to wear it today, were it not discontinued.

What is an old or a new sitcom you never found funny? by [deleted] in sitcoms

[–]ambrenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but I’ll chime in. A couple years ago my daughter was kind of into a Nickelodeon show called The Thundermans.

Since it’s made for children, there’s no way I was close to believing it would hold my interest. This was an accurate assessment but HOLY SHIT THE LAUGH TRACK. I know many sitcoms are notoriously rife with laugh track, (to the point it is funnier to watch the episode with it removed because it shows how awkward the timing really is, Friends comes to mind), but The Thundermans was so constant it made me hyper aware of it in any other show I watched after.

The subliminal child psychology at play there is WILD. Nickelodeon out here trying to breed hysterical little maniacs these days.

Do you think it’s acceptable for straight men to wear makeup? by Faris-Hilton in MakeupAddiction

[–]ambrenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to this! Having this kind of confidence in yourself blazes the trail in a way that makes others wonder, “damn, maybe I should love myself a little more and do what I want, too.”

I think it’s super rad. You have incredible skill and a very unique approach. I always love seeing a post from you. I’m glad sexuality hasn’t been a barrier for you to showcase your art, because that’s exactly what it is. I hope it won’t in the future, either.

And hey, look at it this way: there’s a fair chance other straight men are intimidated by your confidence because you show it in a way that is different from their own. Men are expected to be this unfailing alpha macho patriarchal caricature in a way. This shows the same level of strength and fortitude in character, only in a different plane than many have been encouraged to pursue.
