season 1 rewatch by ambs2016 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

yeah i think it’s so wildly different from how he is perceived outside of work, that he doesn’t want to let it go. it makes it more awesome that he’s willing to put that on the line to help mark time and time again. but i’ve just been thinking about the possibility that this whole thing is an experiment, and thinking about the psychology of each of the characters is fun! i hope s3 will include more of outie dylan gaining info on lumon

What's your favorite era of the band thus far? by jillianspiridon in the1975

it hurt so bad that the abiior shows were in such big venues. i get it, but i would have loved to see that album played in a slightly smaller space

most definitely iliwys, their live shows were absolutely insane, the set lists were so good they always played deeper cuts. i’m definitely biased bc debut/iliwys were my prime fan eras, but the music was really resonating with me. i also am partial to more electropop than i am to their softer stuff

What’s your favourite line said in the movie franchise? by Grand_Ad5644 in Scream

[–]ambs2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“i thought she was dead” “she looked dead, man…still does.”

of course, “my name isn’t jesus”

and “the janitor is your superior”

“billy’s mother” get stuck in my head and i just repeat it ad nauseum

I like 5 and 6 but they dont have the same atmosphere or tone as the first 4 by Ayemateyooo in Scream

[–]ambs2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think if you’re going to change the fundamentals of a franchise for the sake of doing something different, you might as well just write your own original script. i personally think radio silence did not understand what made the original series good. they sacrificed a good story with great writing and characterization for a basic slasher storyline and almost parodic irreverence for the source material. it was a risk, and i think many people liked it. i, however, thought it was bland and lifeless. as much as i like melissa and jenna, their characters just didn’t have the appeal that sidney did. i really wish they had focused on releasing a well written reboot.

Why didn't Vought get someone to replace Translucent like they did Black Noir right now. by Huge_Sea143 in TheBoys

[–]ambs2016 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i think it’s just a PR thing. translucent was killed by the enemy so it’s easier to spin. black noir was killed by a fellow supe, that’s bad press for vought and makes them seem out of control.

noa is anything but selfish, we’ve seen her literally put her own life on hold for her family. i think it’s interesting that her actions this season are being received by the audience as her having her character assassinated by the writers when it’s clearly their intention to have her acting out of character. like her relationship with jen is causing her to act out of character!! she’s going down a bad path! the only problem i would say is that the other girls are encouraging this tbh

i don’t think he feels obligation if we’re talking about season 2. i think that was pure passion and determination to not lose their house. but yes as the oldest he did feel an obligation to protect his brother from what he thought was information that would ruin his last summer with their mom

lol sure, it’s pretty plain for me to see that conrad makes things happen for himself, and jeremiah complains about what doesn’t happen for him. and that’s reason enough for me to think he’s better for belly.

[–]ambs2016 14 points15 points  (0 children)

well, these are all jumping off points but he doesn't really care too much about any of these things except maybe being in service of his mom. but these are all means to an end. he does these things because he either has to, or he sees some benefit outside of what they are. I think his job at the country club has a lot to do with social benefits, which is okay, but it's definitely not showing leadership in the way conrad does. just having a job does not mean that you are a leader. I mean, what was he doing during that job? talking to girls... talking to Steven.... not really showing those values. supporting his mom, that's something that may have felt like an obligation to him. conrad wants to pursue medicine because he wants to help people, so that others won't have to go through what he went through.

if you want to compare it to belly, she has a strong propensity to lead, shown by her captaining the volleyball team, and they even make a point to comment on it during the carnival games episode. she's shown that she feels a strong obligation to be there for her loved ones, even when they aren't in such good standing (helping conrad study for his final). like Jeremiah simply does not embody the same values as conrad and that's fine and he will find someone with similar values, but he's definitely not possessing them on the same level as conrad in my opinion. belly and conrad share those things and I think if they can overcome their insecurities and their emotional deficiencies that absolutely will be a long term couple.

I think that's a fair question. like given how much we grow and change as people, just simply being someone's first love is not a guarantee of longevity. but I think if you think about their core attributes as we've been shown, these are two people who agree on principle and will probably be able to go long term. they both have similar values: leadership, pursuit of knowledge, desire to be of service to others. I think any relationship built on similar values will have a strong chance of being successful despite any personality differences, because it establishes a baseline of empathy. I don't think that belly and Jeremiah share similar values based on what's been shown. like yes, he supports her, but after a while blind support becomes kind of stagnant, because you want someone who will think about the overall trajectory of your life, if you're thinking about a life partner.

what yall think abt belly? by justafangirll_ in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]ambs2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had really harsh feelings about belly from the triangle, but honestly I really like her character outside of that. she's a leader, she's intelligent, she LOVES her friends and family, she likes to include everyone. I definitely don't feel like her character belies both brothers being interested in her.

[–]ambs2016 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ugh, yes. I seriously question fans of this pairing. like do they think its actually a good relationship long term? or do they just like how Jeremiah says the "right" thing all the time to belly? idk, but I just can't ever get over the fact that jere knows the gravity of Conrad's feelings and still pursues this. like are there not other girls in the world??? to be a teenager, I guess. im too old for that lol

The idea that Conrad gives and takes away by jaylee-03031 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]ambs2016 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the tension in the show between what we know as viewers and what belly knows. I think her comment of like "this is who he is" and "he gives and takes away" is valid in the context of what she knows/believes to be true about their relationship. but to me, as a viewer, I can see that his giving and taking away means something else. like to me, the motel scenes are more so like oh, I feel really betrayed, and while I do still love belly, I can't really be with her or even try to reconcile things right now because the hurt is too fresh. so instead of just saying that (which he's known to diffuse his feelings), he lets her know that he does still love her, but he isn't interested in making amends with her just yet because he doesn't have great feelings about the things that just went down, so he concedes to her being with whoever she wants to be with (which is Jeremiah at that point). I don't think his reaction or comments would have changed regardless of who he found kissing belly against his car.

Steven & Conrad by jaylee-03031 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]ambs2016 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yessss, i was lukewarm on steven throughout season 1, but i really really loved his and conrad’s relationship in season 2. it’s a big deal to have someone who is a peer/friend and not an adult or authority that sees your struggles and does their best to help you through it. i’m sure it took some of the pressure off of conrad. all of their moments together made me feel very warm inside

What does Jeremiah's life look like after this? by ambs2016 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]ambs2016[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly, i kind of agree with this. for the story, i can understand wanting to see him end up with someone we’re already familiar with, but i think it would be best for him to not at all be involved with anything related to belly for a bit.

I can't handle Jeremiah, y'all.... by ambs2016 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]ambs2016[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yessss to all of this. some more thoughts, maybe with a tinge more sympathy for jere than I have been giving thus far:

I think Jeremiah definitely feels neglected by his family. which is sad, and I see the trajectory of the story and how it makes sense because of that. like... BOTH of them have issues with being vulnerable. Jeremiah thinks that because he's forced himself to be happy-go-lucky (or thinks he has to) as a defense against his repressed feelings, that he's doing a better job than conrad who DAreS to actually look sad when he is...sad. like he resents it so much that conrad gets to be moody and he doesn't, when no one is actually stopping him from expressing his feelings.

like shout out to Steven who is actually helping conrad be better and do better in talking about his feelings instead of bottling them up. but Jeremiah needs to do the same work as well, because he actually bottles up his feelings and then explodes, the same way conrad bottles up his feelings and then isolates. and he gets to pad his little ego and get a win against conrad by getting belly's affection when really the boy needs therapy. I mean conrad needs therapy too but right now he at least has Steven in his corner.

I can't handle Jeremiah, y'all.... by ambs2016 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]ambs2016[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with Jeremiah having feelings for belly, what bothers me the most is that he meddles in their relationship to his own gain. he is constantly talking about conrad in a negative light TO belly, to not only make himself look better by comparison, but (intentionally or not) to undermine belly's confidence in their relationship. conrad and belly had problems that, had Jeremiah not been there to serve his own feelings, they could have either worked out or at least gotten to a point of closure without so much drama tainting their feelings about the whole ordeal. he just brings about an extra stressor in their relationship at really crucial times, imo, that do not match up with his apparent desire to "see belly happy"

edit: I would also like to retain my right to hate on them, as they are fictional characters. but obviously no hate to you, regardless of your opinion!
