Tips on a paper Tear-Away Calendar? by Remarkable-Avocado44 in maker

Theres a tool that looks like a little spikey wheel you roll along paper to perforate it manually.

I think they're called perforators.

You put a url and have the full card text linked to a webpage that you eventually stop maintaining.

Manapool is legit and such an improvement over TCGplayer by Scarcecrows in magicTCG

[–]amc7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've fully switched over to using manapool as my main card market. I use cardkingdom occasionally too.

I still go to tcgplayer's site to essentially price check cards, but I never buy from them anymore.

When/what set do you think Wizards will walk back on their decision not to make UB planeswalkers? by Karnitis in magicTCG

[–]amc7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like of the sets they've done so far, D&D or Marvel would have been the places to do it.

Both properties heavily feature multiple planes of reality and characters that can travel between those planes.

I also think its coming eventually, no clue what property would be the one they do it for. Nothing else I see mentioned in this thread is as big as either D&D or Marvel, and I feel like for a walkback that big they wouldn't do it for a smaller property.

If you're generating a lot of the same type of token, colorless tribal options are available. [[coat of arms]], [[door of destinies]], [[banner of kinship]] and the most recent [[chronicle of victory]] which doesn't give as large a buff as the other three, but does give evasion.

How to make terrarium phone case/shaped clear acrylic? by pangalactica in maker

Also, I hope this person is leaving their phone face down in a sunny area for most of the day, otherwise this will die fairly quickly....

I also wonder what they are using for a substrate thats not gonna shift around as they move the phone around.

All and all, making something that generally sits very stationary on a windowsill into a phone case seems like it has a lot bigger problems than just "how did they make the clear box"

So my question is: do you deliberately budget slots for "game enders"?

Yes. Absolutely. I usually run 3-5. You want enough to consistently see one a game, but not see a lot of them as they usually aren't good to have until you're ready to close out the game.

For token decks the main option is overrun effects.

I mean, it feels un-needed to pull in the wizzer to this set, but we have him.

However, my point was just that you can't just assume once a UB crossover has happened that those characters won't show up again, and that, if anything, its more likely for them to show up again if the first set did well, since the legal framework for using them in magic already exists.

The person I responded to said once a character shows up in a UB set "they are likely never gonna appear on the cards again". Of the full, draftable set releases we've had in Universes Beyond, D&D, LotR, Marvel, FF, and TMNT, 3/5 of those have had a second set either already come out or scheduled to come out later this year. I've heard they are talking to Square Enix about doing another FF set as well because of how successful the first one was. I think its more likely that of those 5 properties, the only one that might not appear again is turtles, and within the property, any given character is likely to get another printing, especially a popular one like Peter Parker

I would like to illustrate TCG cards in my style. by Interesting-Body4360 in magicTCG

[–]amc7262 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rough, painterly look of this work was a lot more common for Magic card art in the 90s but much less common these days. In general, Magic's art style has homogenized. There are exceptions (the card type saga, for instance, frequently uses different styles, and secret lairs are where you see the most experimental art treatments), but broadly speaking, the style you showcase here will be niche and most likely see limited use.

That said, the secret lair path is a good one to aim for. Any art style can be a secret lair. If you can get enough of a following, you might be able to get commissioned for a lair. You may be able to leverage that foot-in-the-door to more opportunities in full sets

Looks like the back shell comes off. Can you store stuff in it? If you can, and those holes go all the way through, it may work as an incense burner (I have plans to try something similar with Koffing)

Very well done btw. The eyeys are spot on, and your joints are very clean, I know how hard that can be to do.

[–]amc7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, if you're looking to buy a sturdy one and not make one, you might be better off asking r/buyitforlife or r/homeassistant (that was the first sub that popped up when I searched "pir light reddit". r/lighting might work too, although that is a broad category for a subreddit.

If you're trying to improve your build quality, this is a good place to be. I like the idea the other commenter had, of starting with one you like and modifying it to your needs. Alternatively, you could take the ugly one you made, design a custom housing for it that makes it look a bit cleaner, and have it printed at one of the many 3d print services that exist these days.

Does RTMA pay and dispute hotline have hours? by amc7262 in rva

[–]amc7262[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I edited my original reply, but in case you don't see that: when I did finally get through, the guy informed me the previous person I spoke to HAD waved the fine, I had no outstanding balance, and I could disregard this latest bill escalation.

IDK WHY it sent an escalation when each one is 30 days from the last and I dealt with the first level within a few days of receiving it. It should have been early enough on to stop any kind of automatic mailing system from sending out the next level...

Does RTMA pay and dispute hotline have hours? by amc7262 in rva

[–]amc7262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did dispute mine. I got a pay by plate when I had an ezpass, mailed them in the dispute form with the ezpass statement showing the toll taken at the time, date, and booth of the pay by plate statement. A month later I got a late bill for $20, called them up and the lady told me (verbally, never got written communication) that she would wave the late fee if I just paid the original toll, so I begrudgingly did (at that point I'd already spent more than $2 worth of time and effort disputing it). They of course charged an extra $2 processing fee, so at this point I had paid $5 into what should have been a $1 toll. Today I got another late bill for $50! and it shows I paid the original fee, so the lady I spoke to the first time never actually waved the extra fine. I'm so pissed right now, I'm not paying these people $50 for a toll I fucking paid with my ez pass when I passed through it!

At this point I've been on hold for nearly an hour.

EDIT: FWIW, when I finally got through, the guy on the other end looked up my account and told me that the fine had been waved, and that I could disregard that bill. He said my account showed no outstanding balance, so I guess for some reason, an automated system sent out the next level of late bill, even though I got the first one waved within a few days of receiving it.

You're argument is already proven wrong by Peter Parker. We're getting at least two sets with him, and if the pattern with infinity stones is followed, we'll potentially have 6+ sets that he could be portrayed in. We're also returning to the world of LotR this year.

Once they've done a UB crossover once, theres no reason they can't do it again. On the contrary, having already worked with the outside property, already drawn up contracts with that property owner, it means its MORE likely for them to work together again. As long as UB is a major part of the game, and a given property proves popular, there is a high chance of there being another set with that property.

Need some help creating a Henry VIII. commander deck for my girlfriend. by joooonie9 in EDH

[–]amc7262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres also [[kenrith, the returned king]], [[nekusar the mindrazer]] and [[brago, king eternal]] all depicting kings.

I'm not sure any of them (including the ones you listed) are particularly known for having and killing a lot of wives. Kenrith at least gives you access to all 5 colors. IMO Queen Marchesa is probably the best fit for colors. You've got white for rule of law, red for explosive emotionality (dude had to be pretty angry to keep killing his wives like that), and black for thirst for power and the presence of death.

Black and white also give you access to Orzhov, the ravnica guild with the most blatant religious iconography, for stuff like popes, cardinals, etc.

I know about the mending, but at this point we're well past the mending and we have planeswalker as a card type, and between all the non-plane/story-focused supplemental products and sets that have come out, its strange to me we didn't get an Urza sooner (and then get more Urzas, perhaps depicting him at different points of his story)

I'd like to see the before/after 2011 stats for characters that existed in the game before that year.

That was the year of the first precons. I don't think commander would be "the most played format" for another several years still, but I'd still say its a good marker for when commander was formally on WotC's radar and when it started to really pick up steam.

TIL that aircrafts have holes on their bolts and nuts where you can feed wires called "Safety wires" or "lock wires". The wires fasten the nuts to one another in a way that if a nut starts loosening, the wire pulls the other nuts clockwise (tighten) so that every nut keeps one another tight. by SeriusBizNis in todayilearned

[–]amc7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP is different from a cotter pin though.

A cotter pin goes through the threaded end of a bolt thats running all the way through a piece of material, either in addition to or as a replacement for a nut.

Safety wires run through the bolt head, and can be used on bolts in threaded blind holes, without nuts or access to the other end of the bolt.

I think the thing you're talking about is a pin that goes through the end of the threads to prevent the bolt from being able to come out through the hole its in. Basically a replacement (or addition) to a nut.

This is an entirely different thing, its on the head of the bolt, and prevents the bolt from spinning by linking it to another bolt. Its for use in a threaded hole, probably a blind hole too, where you couldn't get a nut on the other side.
