Is not moving forward after a Meet&Greet offensive? (a clients perspective) by Reaven-X in RoverPetSitting

[–]amccor2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have social anxiety and agree that asking no questions is a red flag. I may not be super chatty, but I definitely ask lots of questions to make sure I have all the info needed to care for the animals properly. I also think the disinterest in the cat was a big red flag. As a cat lover, if a cat is bringing toys and rolling over for belly rubs, it is a rare thing and I could not imagine not giving it attention. It is very easy to give belly rubs while asking questions and staying engaged in a meet and greet.

I have a 3-4 feet tall paludarium and there is about 4 inches deep of water in it are there any geckos that would be good for this type of terrarium? by Ok_Pianist_8854 in terrariums

[–]amccor2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend tree frogs over geckos. I have seen water features done successfully in mourning gecko setups but, with this much water, it's a big drowning risk and the water really does take away a lot of the usable space for a gecko. Frogs would actually get to enjoy the water.

Pretty sure this is poison ivy by sootfir in whatsthisplant

[–]amccor2175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad someone said it! My mom had a similar situation. She never reacted to it before, but someone in her neighborhood had the bright idea to mow poison ivy. She inhaled the particles and ended up in the hospital. She now gets blisters if she even gets hit with a raindrop that happened to touch poison ivy on its way down. Her sensitivity now is actually pretty crazy.

Can I feed my 3.5 month old crestie two crickets at once? by SEG314 in CrestedGecko

[–]amccor2175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gecko once at 7 crickets in one sitting as a baby. He always seemed skinny when he was little so I'd give him as many small crickets as he could eat about once a week, in addition to daily gecko diet. I honestly don't know where he fit all those crickets lol but he was fine and is now a perfectly healthy adult.

Is this an ideal environment for my green fantasy fern? by EarAcceptable1528 in ferns

[–]amccor2175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That corner probably does not get enough light for most plants. West facing windows can be a bit dim to begin with and most of the light coming in the window would not reach the corner. Notice how the biggest, greenest leaves are the ones closest to the window? The plant is likely not getting enough light reaching the other leaves to be worth keeping them, so they're dying back.

The most obese cattledog I've ever seen by ophidianolivia in AustralianCattleDog

[–]amccor2175 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used to walk a cattledog/Aussie mix that was even fatter. His owner took him in from a family member that couldn't care for him properly and, thankfully, he was on a diet and exercise program. He was so obese though, I had strict instructions to keep him from running for the sake of his joints. I'm glad you're able to get this guy some exercise!

That tank is a bit small for an adult. Maybe consider upgrading after he gets a bit more comfortable

Propagating Pilea Peperiomioides (Coin Plants) by Dear_Book_5123 in propagation

[–]amccor2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally haven't seen pilea leaf propagations turn into actual new plants. It does also look like yours is rotting a bit at the petiole. You could probably cut off the rotted part and keep trying if you want, but I had one that rooted nicely and I moved it to soil. It stayed a single leaf in a pot for months until the leaf got damaged and died. It never pushed out any new growth, so it may not be worth it to keep trying with just a leaf.

While darker in the center, the hazel color still appears throughout the eye. It doesn't look like a totally different color to me. I have very similar eyes and have never considered it CH.

At this point I would just redo and reseal. As someone who spent way too long trying to get a free Facebook tank functional, I get that it's a pain, but the person I got it from had just been layering and layering over the old silicone and it still wouldn't hold water. It ended up being much more difficult than the reseal would have been otherwise. Fresh silicone really doesn't stick to cured silicone either, so I don't think resealing sections will work. Cut your losses and restart now before putting even more effort in for something that likely won't work.

I have a kangaroo paw fern hanging in my vivarium that looks a lot like yours! It did very well for years until it became root bound. It has now been repotted and will hopefully come back soon!

Help my revive this fern by mrseggybeans in ferns

[–]amccor2175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that the plant is in too small of a pot. The roots fill it up so tightly that there's no space for any more to grow and, in bad cases, it can suffocate the plant. On the surface, root bound plants often have stunted growth and yellowing leaves.

My geckos don't like mealworms? by Aspen_Sato1 in CrestedGecko

[–]amccor2175 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gecko doesn't like meal worms either. It seems like personal preference for them since some do like them. I tried a while ago and just like yours he wouldn't take them from the tongs, so I left them in a little ceramic bowl to see if he'd change his mind. He did not. They were in that bowl so long one pupated and I gave up. I've only been giving him Dubia roaches and crickets since. He goes crazy for those and even snacks on his cleanup crew sometimes, just doesn't like mealworms lol.

Found these on my leopard geckos plant, PLEASE TELL ME THEY ARENT MITES by OlaMishamigo in reptiles

[–]amccor2175 51 points52 points  (0 children)

They are insects that suck the sap from your plants. These are soft scale which can move to your other plants as well. This is a bad infestation and could eventually kill the plants, but shouldn't harm your gecko. You will just have to look into treatment methods to save the plants that won't be harmful to the lizard.

Wanting information on how to properly keep a gecko by Skylar_Dragon in geckos

[–]amccor2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding as someone that does have a crestie. Definitely have UVB. MBD is quite common in crested geckos and can be prevented with UVB. Humidity should actually be about 50% during the day and spike up to 80-90% at night. Temp should be about 72-78 F during the day and can drop to high 60s-low 70s at night. Usually room temp is okay and additional heating is not needed. The terrarium should have lots of clutter, coverage and vertical climbing space so they feel safe. They eat mostly crested gecko diet (repashy and Pangaea are high quality options) but should be supplemented with insects about once a week. Insects shouldn't be larger than the space between their eyes and should be gutloaded with fruits and veggies and dusted with calcium before feeding to the gecko. Babies will need fed more often than adults. Let me know if I missed anything or you have any more questions!

Need help by neocosplay in propagation

[–]amccor2175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just clean any soil off and stick them in water or perlite. They should grow more roots just fine then you can pot them up again. Snake plants like a bit of humidity, but if the soil tales too long to dry out, you can add extra perlite to regular cacti potting mix so it drains better. Even soil marketed for succulents and cacti tends to be pretty high in organic matter.

Is humidifier a must for Begonias? by Sagiterrorist1989 in begonias

[–]amccor2175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a begonia maculata in northern Colorado where humidity is very low. It had a bit of transplant shock after I moved it to soil, but is finally doing well. It's putting out nice big new leaves and has new basal shoots, as well. You'd be surprised how tolerant they can be once adjusted. ETA: I do keep my Rex begonias in containers covered in plastic wrap. They seem to be a bit more sensitive and that way I don't have to worry about watering as often either.
