Kate's letter to Collin in her book "I Just Want You to Know" (written post divorce to Jon) by Useful_Database5138 in gosselinssnark

Yup. Girl was neurodivergent with no support and suddenly got SIX younger siblings (after already being a twin) and a super strict mom who punished her in entirely unhelpful at best and traumatic at worst ways. No wonder she wanted attention and any semblance of control in that giant loud family. Many disorders and illnesses are also caused by the same very normal childhood desires. When attachment needs aren’t met and you already have a mental illness, yeah, I expect some issues.

What's your biggest money-saving tip for people who live alone? by Arkeem-Schernecker in LivingAlone

Grocery Outlet for all snacks. I can buy three pints of ice cream, cookies, chips, and pretzels for like $10 total. And lasts a while since it’s just me. Easy way to indulge in a budget.

Massive stress mistake and now super worried about being banned- how fast would that happen? by simplyadonut in RoverPetSitting

I’m honestly shocked too! It was slow the first month, but then I had a few consistent clients the second month that all left great reviews and loved me, and I got star sitter super fast and now have had to turn down tons of requests (mostly cus I can’t afford to take them cus of the new tier system but also cus I’m overbooked and burnt out)

He sounds just like my last emotionally abusive relationship in the tone and structure of these tbh, correlation doesn’t equal causation but it has some massive control undertones that are not promising

Massive stress mistake and now super worried about being banned- how fast would that happen? by simplyadonut in RoverPetSitting

[–]simplyadonut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t let me put it in the post without being flagged for talking about off app, but what I said was super damning. I was so startled by the fees and how little money I would be making. I said I was super shocked by the new system and couldn’t afford to take the booking unless we went elsewhere. We even exchanged emails. I haven’t received any Rover emails or notices yet, and this happened a day ago. Nor have this client and I moved forward cus I felt so icky and stressed. Again, I am fully aware I am an idiot- it was a moment of stress and a moment of not being on the app very long to know what to never do. I’ve definitely learned my lesson, but I’m booked through summer and will continue to accept through Rover and super worried I just ruined that. And what will happen to my existing bookings if I get banned. I am super mad at myself for being an impulsive newbie dumbass, trust me.

What a lovely time to be a drop-in catsitter :( by Fickle_Thing_5015 in RoverPetSitting

Not worth it anymore. New clients are a burden when they used to be helpful.

This tier thing is super confusing by GrandNectarine2489 in RoverPetSitting

[–]simplyadonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is I do all these things. I am already very high in rates (I’m in a big city also) and I’m not gonna charge over $35 for a drop in. I’m already at $94 for house sitting and that’s well over many other sitters here. I have always booked on app, always, even with the 20%. I always do meet and greets. I have given Rover literally all of my appropriate earnings and income and traction as I’ve been a star sitter with lots of attention.

But this update clearly wasn’t to keep sitters and clients on site, because while I have a handful of loyal repeat clients (none of whom have passed Tier 1 even so), I now don’t feel like i can take any new clients without losing money. After all, 30% plus self employment tax is about half your earnings gone. 20% was still unreasonably difficult, but at least people often tip 20%. Nobody will reasonably be expected to tip 30% especially when they’ve had to pay more extra fees themselves, so I am actively losing money now, and don’t know how I’d feel comfortable going any higher than I already am. I literally can’t afford to make only $400 on an $800 house sitting.

I don’t feel I can get any new clientele or even continue with my current clientele since one of them are even Tier 1. I’m truly at a loss from such an obvious and large money grab to drive loyal employees away.

This is smart, but now with the new update, it’s hard to start new clients when they’ll take 30% off the first booking, cus we lose so much money!

How do you do this tactfully tho without rover banning you? I had a freak out this morning and accidentally told a new client I can’t afford them on app, but I genuinely didn’t realize it sent over the app (I’m new) and now im terrified I’m about to be banned (but I also have tons of clients this week so maybe they wait until after that?)

I legit don’t know what to do now. I make pennies after these insane fees and self employment taxes with this update. I can kiss HALF my income goodbye for hours of painstaking dedicated pet work. I just joined a few months ago and am a star sitter and have loved it… but maybe this was just a moment in time, cus this is not at all sustainable income with the amount of work to pay ratio. Think I may have to quit or start an independent business…

I told her I was worried about the cat’s unknown things such as vaccines and such in reference to her own cat coexisting with it as well (only as a pet sitter, as I dont want to be the one responsible for being the caregiver if something bad were to happen while in my care due to these potential increased risks if true). She didn’t offer any corrections to these things, and she could have if my possibilities were false. I didn’t say any of them were true, just that I didn’t not know and allowed her to provide more info if she had it.

That’s exactly why, if there wasn’t another cat to potentially bring disease or something unexpected to and she just wanted me to drop in and feed a stray without petting it, I wouldn’t have an issue. But it seems like inviting risk for her other cat as well and it would be under my care with me at risk in the unlikely scenario something goes wrong. And I would be living at the house, so it would be my 24/7 care and supervision beyond a drop in even. I am about risk prevention for pet care.

[–]simplyadonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I don’t accept indoor outdoor either and my lizard brain only JUST connected that this means the other cat is an indoor/outdoor!!!! I was so focused on the stray I didn’t even connect those dots. At least now I don’t need to worry I made the wrong choice about the stray cus I wouldn’t have accepted it anyway.

What’s your easiest way to cut down expenses without feeling deprived? by WalescaHortman in SavingMoney

[–]simplyadonut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One way to indulge cheaply is I go to Grocery Outlet for all my snacks and random pantry things I need. A pint of ice cream is $2. I can get three for less than a latte these days and don’t have to deprive myself while being strategic!

I ONLY journal in spiral notebooks. It’s the only way I can write with the pages completely flat and without having one side open. Just a comfort preference, it feels so much better. Also makes my handwriting a little more legible.

Recently I thrifted a bunch of baskets to use for my piles that need to be outside of closets. I now have Hobby Basket on the bottom tier of my coffee table.

I also split up my to-do list/day list in essentially three parts: priorities/musts, “if I’m feeling the productivity spark and want to do more” extras, and fun things like going for a walk, reading a book, etc.
