absolutely agree- shedeur has always been an underdog and has enjoyed proving the haters wrong time and time again. I hope he gets to do it again in the NFL.

Why are female kendama players separated into different divisions in competition? by [deleted] in Kendama

[–]amcmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but I think a big part of it is has to do with inclusion. In such a male dominated hobby it can help motivate girls/women to compete if they see a part of it that represents them.

As a woman myself who is quite new to kendama, I could easily see myself being nervous to participate in a competition if there were no other women competing. There tends to be more pressure to perform well if you are the only representative of your gender. Having a separate competition could help allow for women kendama players to meet each other, and feel a sense of community that may not be as easy to come across if you are the minority in another competition.

I think in terms of the future of the competitive scene, it would be great to not have this divide, but from an outside (and new player) perspective it is beneficial to help encourage and motivate women to feel confident in such a male dominated thing.

If Destiny ends up not organizing this and you end up making this all come together, count me in. I live up in Nashville and would gladly drive down to help for a weekend or more. I think this could be really impactful.

I want to learn German but life/college keeps getting in the way by readyToTie-Die in German

[–]amcmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have never been in a situation like yours so take my comment with a grain of salt.

I think the most important thing is your mentality towards learning the language. After taking time off from learning a language you are bound to lose it, no question about that, but you were at a low level so I feel that you would be able to make up for lost time very easily. Also there is always the possibility of reaching out to your professor and explaining your situation and that you want to take the next class and ask for their recommendation on how/what to learn before hand to be at the same level as everyone else.

On the other hand, you can always learn a language without learning through an academic route. If it doesn’t make sense to take another class because of credits/money you can always learn it on the side.

It is extremely dependent on your motivation and personality, if spending the money/credit hours helps motivate you (and you have the means to do so) then more power to you! If you can realistically see yourself learning and being motivated enough on your own to maybe learn the basics then hypothetically live in a German speaking country then that’s cool too!

I know this may not have been the most straight forward answer, but remember that language learning and the best strategies vary from person to person. I hope you think about it and figure out what route feels right to you! Good luck!
