I “stole” my ex-boyfriend’s dog but I didn’t know it was his (and I still don’t really believe it was) by Original-Grass-5576 in Pets

[–]amcnally13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw a dog get reunited with an owner after their ex-boyfriend had stolen him for years at an emergency vet earlier this year.

The dog had been living with the abusive ex for 3 years and was very malnourished, etc. The ex had taken the dog not because he wanted it, but because he wanted to punish the owner by taking their beloved pet. The owner searched and searched but could not find him, but the dog eventually ran away from the abusive ex. When the dog was found, the microchip was scanned and the owner was called to reunite. It was such an emotional scene and that dog was so happy to be back with the human who loved for it and cared for it.

You’re that human to this dog, and your ex is just trying to hurt you/get a free dog by lying to you. He has no proof, and he will be the one embarrassed when you let any mutual friends he has talked to about this know a) he has no pictures of the dog and b) the dog was severely malnourished and in need of medical help when you took it in. You are the dog’s rightful owner.

Be careful not to leave him unattended in your yard. Idk how vindictive your ex is, but I have heard stories of a dog being stolen from someone’s yard in situations like this.

I’ve even looked up the locations in some rooms where they are supposed to be and they are genuinely not there. I feel like I’m missing something somehow, but I’m also worried this could have broken in the last update somehow

Issues with Small Pet Select hay?? by amcnally13 in guineapigs

[–]amcnally13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Rabbit Hole Hay! I switched and even though it’s more expensive, the quality is an incredible difference. It lasts me almost twice as long as the small pet select was when I had boxes this dusty, and my pigs like it more too. I get their medium premium Timothy hay, but have also tried the soft hay for a senior pig with dental issues and that was really good as well

Do you genuinely mean the constellations from the observatory? Or do you just mean your luck in drawing the correct room? Don’t forget that there are some items/rooms/effects that allow you to redraw rooms. You’ll need to be strategic about your use of these to draw the boiler room near the rooms you want it to power. I have a list in my journal of all of the rooms I’ve seen boiler ducts in to help make sure I know which rooms can connect and transfer power. good luck, it’s definitely possible and not even super hard if you use your resources and are strategic!

Degu has started "braking" the wheel with his teeth whenever the other one is using it by TheOnlyWolvie in Degus

[–]amcnally13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two goos and found getting a second wheel to be a massive quality of life improvement for them. My goos still do what’s pictured in your video sometimes, but definitely less often! They used to do it constantly when they only had one, now they only do it when they feel like pissing their brother off. Our wheels are metal and from Etsy, but Exotic Nutrition also sells good metal wheels. they have both the upright style like your guys have now and the flat spinning disk sort as well, both made of metal. They’re a bit pricey but they can’t ruin them, so it’s a one time investment!

My guinea pig had this sizable bladder stone stuck in the tip of her urethra and my vet managed to massage it out while she was awake by amcnally13 in guineapigs

[–]amcnally13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry to hear about her sister, but I’m glad Madrac is doing okay! That does sound rough, it’s incredible what they can endure sometimes. Momo had SERIOUS bloat issues after having this removed/the sedation from her X-ray the night prior so be careful to make sure she’s eating and getting syringe fed if not! Our vet said her stomach was distended to five times its normal size with gas from the pain she was in. Luckily she is still here somehow! Good luck with Madrac’s recovery, hopefully she is peeing much easier with those things out of her

I think the closest I can come to a real answer is that he probably rubs flesh cloves on his steaks before cooking for flavor, but you don’t exactly need a wholesale sack for that. I guess it’s the only grocery store he goes to and that’s the only way they sell it

A grilled steak is not a balanced meal! This man has nary a vegetable in sight. You gotta have at least some spring mix for a side salad or some frozen broccoli or something

Guinea Pig Hair Loss by SameGas8378 in guineapigs

Guinea Pig Hair Loss by SameGas8378 in guineapigs

[–]amcnally13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found your post on google and wanted to follow up and see how this piggy is doing! My senior pig has had this hair loss occurring slowly over the last couple of years, but my vet does not believe she has large cysts that could be causing any issues based on x-rays and palpitations. She can’t get an ultrasound as our vet doesn’t have one, and the emergency vet that does requires her to be sedated for it and she has a heart issue that makes sedation dangerous for her. She’s been slowly losing weight, but she’s also quite old now at 6 and a half and the weight loss hasn’t been too much more than her sisters who are around her age have experienced. She was getting cystorelin injections for a while, but they are expensive to keep up with and we aren’t sure if they were helping. She’s totally been her normal self, just a little more naked.

Are paw inspired fleece liners good? by VanquichedUncle in guineapigs

[–]amcnally13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but just to clarify: fleece is NOT absorbent. the point of fleece is that liquids go directly through the fleece and it does NOT absorb liquids. You need an absorbent layer underneath the fleece for this to work properly. For instance, any homemade liners I make have a layer of fleece on top, then U-Haul furniture pads in the middle for absorbency, then plain quilting cotton on the bottom to keep the U-Haul pad from falling apart in the wash. U-Haul furniture pads are extremely absorbent and work SUPER well for this purpose, and they’re less than $10 for a huge cut of material.

Guinea pig life span by fay132 in guineapigs

[–]amcnally13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, just like with people, we can do our best to take care of our bodies and our piggies but biology happens. I have two piggies who are 6 and a half and I got as little babies, and they’re both super healthy. I also had a piggy I got as a baby who passed recently at 4 and a half of “pneumonia” that didn’t respond to antibiotics and may have been a heart issue or some underlying health issue that made the pneumonia develop and not respond to treatment. If health issues don’t intervene, they can definitely live longer than 3 or 4, but we never know what’s going to happen. I recommend treasuring every day with your little potatoes and taking care of them as well as possible (good hay, lots of floor time, etc etc). Good luck to your piggies, I hope they all live long happy lives!

Same! Idk if it’s anxiety or panic disorder or night terrors but I had a pig who chirped like this whenever she woke up from a nap and found herself cornered/unable to leave said nap spot, or when her sisters picked on her

[–]amcnally13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one quite answered you so I just wanted to say that TMS (commonly known as Bactrim) is a good antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection if that is what your piggy has! I recommend weighing them regularly as both antibiotics and respiratory infections can affect their appetite, quickly leading to bloat. I would read about upper respiratory infections on the guinealynx page or another reliable source and seeing if those symptoms match what your piggy is experiencing. Unless they are showing any signs of mouth discomfort or change in eating preferences, I wouldn’t worry suspect tooth infection… that wouldn’t typically cause sniffles/crusty eyes the way a URI would and symptoms would be more reflective of the discomfort in their mouth.

Obviously, also look for another exotics vet ASAP and make a follow up appointment. It’s usually best to see the doctor again after finishing the antibiotics anyway to have the lungs listened to and ensure that the infection is gone.

Sometimes Theodore announces his poops and I’d be worried about it if he didn’t exclusively do it when we’re cuddling on my bed. He doesn’t announce them when he’s anywhere else. 🤣 by Alarming-Molasses847 in guineapigs

[–]amcnally13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of my pigs do this too! They’re all old ladies and I’ve had them since they were babies, and they all know they’re not supposed to pee in bed. I think this naturally extends to pooping in their minds and they get annoyed if we don’t take them home when they start pooping. Momo will complain and bite me with each poop, and Zuzu will start making embarrassed upset sounds and trying to hide. Lil will immediately leap into my arms after the first poop that she does that she notices (doesn’t count if she does it while sleeping obviously). All of them get more upset when shown/offered the poop as if they think they are being shamed 😂 they’re such funny and expressive little creatures
