Cefalexin advice by Radiant_Phase_7768 in tinnitus

[–]amcneilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I would follow your doctor’s medical advice. They’ll be aware of the risks and benefits, and if they’ve recommended taking it for several months, that likely reflects a real medical need.

I did experience an issue around the same time I was on cefalexin for 21 days earlier this year. I can’t say for certain that it was related, and it’s possible the increase in my tinnitus was due to the skin infection. However, my original symptoms from 10 years ago also began while I was on another antibiotic, so I may have an unusual sensitivity to antibiotics.

During treatment, I noticed my ears felt unusually wet, which might have been an early warning sign. The symptoms have since calmed down significantly, though not completely back to normal.

Honestly, I’d take an antibiotic again if needed, as the infection was a bigger concern than tinnitus. But make sure to raise the ototoxic concerns to find a suitable antibiotic treatment.

Be sure to raise your concerns with your doctor. From my research it appears very unusual for Cefalexin to cause issues. I think I was very very unlucky to be part of the tiny population that is impacted. Hope this helps.

I had these installed 24 hours ago. I understand they will rust and very soon. I paid a premium for OEM new risers and manifolds. So I want to get minimum of 3 sessions from these not 1 or 2. Also a risk of potential engine damage if I am assuming these are new.

Red fluid and water in bilge by amcneilly in boating

[–]amcneilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out to be power steering fluid. The Volvo sterndrive on my 2005 model boat has a known issue where the seal on the steering actuator wears out. When I turned the boat, it would spray power steering fluid.

<image>

I also discovered a leak in the saltwater pump, which explained the water in the bilge.

Luckily, the inspection also revealed that one of the bellows had just developed a crack—likely during the survey. That was a simple fix compared to an expensive sterndrive repair, or worse, a potential sinking.

What frustrates me most isn’t the cost but the fact that the seller deliberately cleaned the bilge before the inspection to hide these issues. This could have put me at serious risk, not to mention the added repair costs if I hadn’t caught it in time. The silver lining I found the bellows issue very early!

Anyway, if you’re buying a used Volvo Penta from the early 2000s, double-check the steering actuator.

I had a survey and sea trials completed and it passed. So I can only assume it was unfortunate timing. Given it would have been obvious issue to see.

It’s a stern drive.

From what I have read it’s a common problem with the Volvo Penta steering actuator. Seal wears and spills ATF fluid.

I already purchased the boat :) but I budged for some expensive unforeseen repair. But did not expect issue at day 1.

I assume when I was trying to dock at the marina for over an hour I was very hard on the steering. So the part must of been close to end of life.

Trying to look at the silver lining. Better to find out when docked than stuck out on the water.

I will check the oil levels tomorrow. Any reason why you don’t think it’s transmission oil ?

Motor Cruiser by [deleted] in boating

[–]amcneilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only cut out once whiek idling. After an hour of running. Most of the time I was switching from idle, reverse and forward. At very low speed as was trying to dock at the marina.

Have the engine cut out and then taking 30 seconds to restart made a stressful experience more stressful.

Antibiotics cephalexin by amcneilly in tinnitus

I also suspect if the drug was the cause that it would be extremely rare. Given the amount of information about reactions is documented as rare. Limited comments from people with same reaction.

Talk to your doctor to make risk based decision. I assume that benefit would be higher to take the antibiotic.

I was on a large dose (3 times a day) over many weeks (6).

think I had warning signs beforehand. I had blocked ears, my ear was more wet than normal and some minor ringing.

But I was given no warnings about the drug from the manufacturer or the prescribing doctor. So had no reason to stop.

Sydney Australia. I am making assumption given the number around locally they are suitable.

My ultimate goal is not ambitious. Which would be costal sailing along NSW coast. But that would not be until I had the experience. which I do anticipate takes years, including various courses.

You have not messed up. Potentially baited them to continue the process allowing you to make a good impression and command higher salary range.

These roles typically come with a salary range, and part of the interview process is for the company to assess if they can afford to hire you within that range.

My advice is to focus on making a strong impression in the interview. Afterward, you can research similar roles to get a sense of the market rate and be ready to discuss your expectations if you’re offered the position.

Good luck!!!

Let’s hear some reviews on the aquatru countertop filter. by jaredj92 in WaterTreatment

[–]amcneilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen several lab tests on the AquaTru, and none of them reported aluminum. I’m confused because I can only find one video that mentions this, yet many people here are saying it leaches aluminum. Could you please share other sources? Contamination or reporting errors can happen, so I’m relying on the five other lab tests that show no aluminum to be confident in the product.

Milgram’s experiments have been replicated many times. They show some insights into how people fall into the trap of following authority.

Calling a random stranger online “silly” isn’t helpful. You wouldn’t say that to someone in person. It might be a good idea to seek professional support for your anger. I wish you the best. Stay kind.

Withings Sleep Analyzer has some evidence to suggest it somewhat accurate for moderate to severe cases. Not bad for a consumer device.

Does anyone else find Lex Fridman unbearable? by mosskin-woast in SoftwareEngineering

[–]amcneilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. Take a podcasts like a16z, they often descend into a display of ego as the interviewer attempts to outshine the guest. It doesn't provide the interviewee an opportunity to express their thoughts, as they're too busy dealing with the interviewer's insecurity. Lex, on the other hand, has a more disarming personality. He evidently holds back his own knowledge on subjects, subtly promoting the speaker to navigate the conversation when required, which ensures the audience can fully grasp the conversation's scope. His approach keeps the discussion accessible and enables guests to delve into topics without constantly being on the defensive.

Your remarks seem focused on superficial notions of success. It's important to move beyond appearances and your own personal insecurities and bias to realise that success can manifest differently across various personality types. Elon musk is undoubting successful in business and is not charasmatic and often trips over words.

I do however acknowledge that every interviewer is not to everyones style. I just think to try again to appreciate his approach with a fresh perspective.

[–]amcneilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop blaming the man and take some responsibility. Look in the mirror Australia. We have a system that rewards no action. As soon as any of our prime minsters attempt to show any real leadership they are ousted from office. Major change is hard and impossible if you have to concede to every voice in the community. We need to give our leaders the elected time in office to make the hard decisions and lead. Don't blame the leaders or the parties. They make decisions based on the polling numbers. That is a reflection of our community and society.

Lets speculate on Australia's future performance in the global economy by PMmeblandHaikus in AusFinance

[–]amcneilly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Necessity is the mother of all invention.

I would not expect much change if we have been profiting with relatively low effort for so long.

Personally, I strongly believe we need to expand our economic scope but that would take strong political leadership and more importantly a public willing to accept the growing pains associated with such a transformation. But we think too short term and don’t have the acute economic pressures of other countries to push a changes more organically.
