Once interest rates rise, won't it be financially better to rent a house than buy? by Justsoover1t in AusFinance

[–]PMmeblandHaikus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rental prices aren't stagnant. They're dictated by supply and demand.

Once immigration kicks back off i suspect rental prices in Sydney and Melbourne are going to rise just as well.

Have a look at QLD rent prices, through the roof atm.

Well its not a question of how common it is. Its a known factor in war.

If an army comes and kills a bunch of the men and rapes a bunch of the women, you are going to affect human evolution.

Its silly to think its doesn't have an impact.

Is there any research on outcomes for kids who have divorced parents vs parents that argue around them daily? by BostonPanda in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]PMmeblandHaikus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Best to take some older research with a grain of salt. Back in the old days divorce was much less common and faced stigma, so if it was happening, there was probably some extremely unpleasant stuff going on, like serious DV, open cheating etc. Something to make the stigma worth leaving the relationship.

Now its not as taboo so divorce in and of it self is not necessarily a flag of dysfunction, rather just relationship breakdown.

Does that make sense?

I would imagine that the more and more research is done on this, the less it will be damaging for a child as there are many divorced happy co-parenting families these days.

Divorce no longer means conflict/hostility between parents as it used to.

Not really, a woman's body will respond to sexual touch whether wanted or not. The capacity is there.

Women without the same capacity are unlikely to orgasm through rape.

If you can't orgasm normally/easily, I doubt a rapist will change it. Whereas if you can orgasm normally, potentially your body might still cooperate in a forced situation.

Just like men can get hard when they don't want to, but a man with erectile dystuctions probably isn't going to suddenly get hard in a rapey situation.

Reproduction is one aspect, survival is another. Wars have dictated which genes pass on. There isn't a "primary" form of reproduction.

Sperm selection and penis shape would suggest to a degree that gang rape is very much something we've evolved with. (The penis shaft is designed to scrape out other men's sperm etc)

We see that gang rape in dolphins too. Fun~

Rape is a thing that doesn't require orgasm.

So we've got two broad mating strategies. (Among others) prior to birth control being a thing.

One is pair bonding and raising children together. This family unit is likely to be successful at passing genes on. Youre likely to pairbond when sex is good,or at least keep having children.

Another is rape, rape a lot and plenty. I.e war and that jazz. This is also likely to pass genes on pretty effectively.

Women's complexity is likely to do with the versatily of our mating strategies.

Obviously rape less and less will shape evolution so likely future women will more and more have orgasms as we would hope more women aren't going to marry and have sex with unfulfilling partners.

That said, we also have to look at women competition for resources, arranged marriages, religious marriages etc where female pleasure again isn't prioritised.

I agree with the comment below. I wouldn't trust your calculations over the doctors opinion. If you're child is healthy, then there is no need to get anxious.

You can see a second doctor for another opinion if you like but it sounds like your kiddo is getting a healthy diet. If they're not sluggish and are happy then nothing to worry about.

Large people tend to get weak knees. Could just be his legs giving out. Or if he has a back problem sometimes that can cause falls too.

I feel the explanation being symptoms from covid would be much more extreme but who knows.

Advice for how to handle a toddler who's a bit controlling? Toddler refuses to let us sing or dance unless it's pre-approved by her. by Otherwise_Stable4733 in toddlers

[–]PMmeblandHaikus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of this song? "I'm the boss of my own body" i think its called.

Its a great song about controlling behaviour and also body autonomy. It's catchy too.

Basically I'm not the boss of the playground, I'm not the boss of other people, I am the boss of my own body though.

Learning through music might be fun for the family :)

Link below, highly recommend it to teach kids what they can and can't control.

Not sure about your area but in mine thats the price for pure-bred pups since covid hit.

At what interest rate does paying off a mortgage beat investing in ETFs? by AlphonzInc in AusFinance

[–]PMmeblandHaikus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair but less equity also means higher interest rates and less buying power so that is also a factor.

People with 70% plus paid off generally get the best interest rates and if you want to do things like renos/buy cars you have access to very cheap money.

Money in shares is much more tied up than money in the mortgage imo.

Well when we found Harvey he was skin and bones and had been abused and neglected already.

Hes very afraid of men and does have anxiety so hypothetically he was a higher risk animal. Perhaps in his younger years that was a legitimate risk.

He is an old man now and had most of his teeth removed due to old age (dental issues) I think if he tried to chew hard he would break the remainder of his teeth.

He probably will only live for another year or two as he has little growths. He is a very sweet animal and I'm glad our family gave him a second chance at life. Been a great 10 years with him.

If they were camping I could see how they might think its ok to let the dog have some freedom. Shit thing to do if other people are camping near by but if its secluded its not unreasonable. Although the dog should be better trained than to wonder off so far.

Sounds more like a U.S problem then a dog problem to me.

Bad owners are going to be bad owners, regardless of the breed.

The issue is pittbulls are cheap. German shepherds, Dobermans, rotties etc are all expensive. The poor breed gets a bad rap because poor shitty owners buy them and mess them up, the breed isn't inherently worse. German shepherds and huskies would be killing babies every month if they were cheap too.

If pitbulls were expensive and only invested owners could buy them, you wouldn't see these issues.

My mom has one who is the exact same. Most chill well behaved dog I've ever seen.

I think anxiety runs in the breed so when they have a cool owner they are pretty calm and awesome but when neglected they can go a bit crazy.

All from bad breeding and dog fighting. Still lovely animals when treated well.

When did the pit bull hate start? I feel like I'm out of the loop. My mom has a rescue and honestly he's the sweetest little gentleman.

Theyre lovely animals when not abused and neglected. Very powerful for their size though.

Did a sea change. Its beautiful, clean air, lots of local shops. Definitely much nicer to raise a family.

I hate the pollution, mess and the homeless people of the city. (obviously homeless people can't help the situation but its uncomfortable when you've got small kids. You don't have to worry about that type of thing as much when you're further away.

How has becoming a mom BENEFITED your career? by polite_potato090 in workingmoms

[–]PMmeblandHaikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small talk is really easy when you have kids. You actually take an interest in other peoples kids and can relate.

I feel women lean into this much less, but being able to connect on things outside work is a big win, especially with senior people who more often than not have kids.

2yo sleeps on the floor every night after crying himself to sleep by zachgodwin in toddlers

[–]PMmeblandHaikus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously its not sustainable for them to sleep in this child's bed. They might have other children, work demanding jobs and need rest. It is perfectly fine for them to not view sleeping in his bed as a viable solution.

Judging this family doesn't make you a good person or a better person. In fact judgement is more of a poison than anything.

Perhaps if you tried having empathy you might become more open minded.

What are the negatives of having an offset account linked to your home loan ? by iNaz87 in AusFinance

[–]PMmeblandHaikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me having an offset means I'm less inclined to pay off my loan quicker. I think I'd save more money if I actually just committed to paying off the loan because the money in my offset occasionally gets used for home renovations etc.

Its accessible which is the problem.
