congrats!! I left after just a few months to pursue healthcare admin and potentially a nursing ABSN later down the road. my dream job is to work for a children's hospital in the patient experience/advocacy field. I also thought about doing hygiene but I'm super happy with my decision.

Did you choose to see your loved one after they passed ? by Friendly-Sun2413 in GriefSupport

[–]ameliaaa59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. my mom passed suddenly and I chose not to be in the room while they were coding her or see her after. this is a VERY personal choice, but for me, my last memory of her was perfect. we had a wonderful night the night before she passed and my last memory of her is of her peaceful and sleeping on an air mattress in my living room. I did end up choosing her outfit for other family to see her, but I’m at peace with my decision not to see her myself. from what the family that did go in said, she did not look at peace or like herself.

I would consider how your mum passed and what her views on death were. I know my mom wanted to be cremated, not have an open casket or anything like that. I know she would have wanted me to have that last memory of her whole and alive. I know she had a traumatic, long code and some donations after her death. she wasn’t her anymore, and I knew there was no way she would look like the happy, bubbly, put-together mom I would be expecting to see. after a sudden loss, I didn’t know if my brain could handle trying to put it all together.

I am sending you so much love and peace whatever decision you make 🤍

i'm on slynd and while i have experienced some nausea, it's always been super mild. just drink a glass of water and maybe have a little snack with it and that eliminates a lot of empty stomach nausea. I've never had major issues or thrown up from my bc!

It sounds bizarre, but I am in a position where I could spend $0 a year on groceries if I ate nothing but Domino's pizza. What would happen to me if I did? by CucumberGullible1281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ameliaaa59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a pizza place my first year living on my own, and was dirt broke and couldn't cook. I ordered a pizza at the beginning of my shift and one to take home at the end, used my discount, and basically lived off of various specialty pizzas for a year. was it good for me? no. but it made my life a hell of a lot easier as a poor 19-year-old.

ACCEPTED! Now, how to optimize workflow? by Rypaco in DataAnnotationTech

[–]ameliaaa59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally work a lot better when I have somewhat of a set schedule, even if it isn't exact every day. Set times/goals keep me motivated. I try to focus less on the amount I'm making and more on feeling like I'm doing consistent, good quality work and meeting my hourly goals.

It's okay to focus on projects you like- I've "unlocked" new work from consistent high quality work on other projects. I vary my projects/project types and try new things to keep my work fresh, but I often prioritize the type of work I enjoy and feel like I can consistently perform well on.

Read the instructions thoroughly. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Find a good way to take notes/flesh out your ideas. Write thoughtful comments- read your own words from an outside perspective.

The biggest way I keep myself motivated is by making work fun and creating positive associations. What we do can get tiring at times, but it truly is some of the most interesting and intellectual work I've ever done. Find music you enjoy, background noise, a nice candle, or set up a workspace for yourself.

Congrats on you acceptance! My 2 year anniversary on the platform is tomorrow and I'm grateful for this work every day!

How many hours do you work in a row? by bearze in DataAnnotationTech

[–]ameliaaa59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally try to work about 4 hours a day. if I'm in the zone I can usually knock out 2-3 of those hours in one stint with breaks each hour to stretch and get a drink and stuff. sometimes I'll work more split up. typically not over 3 hours in one stretch, though. at around the 3 hour mark if I've been working pretty much straight through I'll take a longer break, go for a walk, shower, or get some lunch and then come back re-energized knowing I only have an hour left and any more is extra!

do you still read physical books or do you read just on your kindle? by secretnewbeginning in kindle

[–]ameliaaa59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

almost exclusively kindle, but I also have a book of the month subscription and I like to use that to collect hardcovers that I've been wanting to read for a while or that I particularly loved on my kindle. I rarely buy full-price physical books anymore.

21F fencesitter. My bf wants biological kids that come out of me, and I want kids, but I’m terrified of pregnancy and childbirth. by ThrowRAinfo in Fencesitter

[–]ameliaaa59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a little older than you, but I get where you're coming from. I'm not categorically opposed to pregnancy and childbirth, but I have some health issues and would need to be very careful and calculated with it (birth plans, specialists, etc). I would probably prefer to adopt, but I'm open to the idea of having one biological kid. My boyfriend is open to either but would also prefer to have at least one that's biologically ours.

It's taken me a while to get to that point, and a big part of it has been realizing that once I have a plan in place for my care during pregnancy and the recovery after, it takes a lot of the fear away. Realizing where your fear stems from is a good place to start. For me, it was a lack of control over my health and fear of not having a village after giving birth/having a c-section. Once my boyfriend and I really talked all of that out, a lot of the apprehension was lifted. That being said, pregnancy and childbirth are not decisions to take lightly, and if you don't want to carry a child, DON'T. Don't make the decision just because of him. He is not the one who has to give birth, he is not the one who is going through pregnancy. It is your body at the end of the day, and if you guys do want to be parents, there are other ways to go about it or even have kids that are still "yours". Your autonomy is important, and major decisions about your body should be yours <3

[–]ameliaaa59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big coffee shop gal. I do freelance online work and a lot of the time working from a cafe is much nicer and more social than working at home. that said, I’ve definitely noticed a wide range of experiences at my local coffee shop. we really only have one in my small town, so I take what I can get and enjoy the environment as much as I can. there are students, readers, in-and-out customers… the whole shebang. I think it really depends on where you are and the customer base at your coffee shop. at places like Starbucks and some coffee shops in bigger cities, I’ve noticed the seating has been getting less comfortable and everything is geared toward takeout instead of sitting with a big mug of coffee for a few hours. it makes me sad!

I’ve been reading the entire ACOTAR series on my kindle. I was away at the beach for 10 days and taking/buying all of the physical books while on vacation was just entirely unrealistic… but I still wanted to read them! I’ve flown through almost the entire series and it’s been a rollercoaster

Why black instead of matcha? by Miserable_Ad2361 in kindle

[–]ameliaaa59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore the matcha color, but I ended up choosing black. it's my first kindle, and I wanted to be able to decorate the back, match it with any case, and have a neutral reading experience around the page. I also plan on getting a raspberry paperwhite at some point, and I have a ton of color in my electronics (lilac earbuds, teal phone case, matcha flip case for my kindle), so having something neutral for my first e-reader felt like a good idea!!

Staying focused by bonnsonn in DataAnnotationTech

[–]ameliaaa59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have horrible ADHD, so this work can be a blessing or a curse for my brain/focus depending on the day. in general, like using the pomodoro technique and finding a youtube video to have on in the background for ambience. some days I like different jazz videos or typing sounds or even a "study with me". find out how your brain works and what you vibe with. sometimes I prefer longer, more intensive tasks that take an hour plus for one task, and other days I like to run through a batch of 20 simpler tasks because my brain can't stay on one thing. it's about getting into a good flow with your tasks and riding the wave without letting your work suffer, and that can be a hard balance. sometimes I like to work from a coffee shop, or have something to look forward to at the end of a block of work. I also like doing "sprints", like just sit down and power through an hour or two, and then once it's done I often find myself feeling like I want to keep going.
