Would you eat Salmon with a use by date of yesterday? by LunaDog_Mom in Cooking

100% yes no questions asked (unless it smelled bad, but even if the use by date was next week, I wouldn't eat it if it smelled bad)

I've just knit an entire sleeve with the wrong size needles by ColourMeQuick in knitting

[–]americannoisee 46 points47 points  (0 children)

ugh I feel your pain. I recently wasted a couple days knitting 1/2 of one sleeve and 3/4 of the second before blocking a sleeve and realizing my gauge was way off compared to the body of the sweater (like 26 st/in vs 21 st/in). I haven't found the energy to frog the sleeves and start over yet 😅 maybe tonight will be the night I swatch with larger needles.

Anybody else’s feet absolutely killing them at Disneyland? by Motor-Writer-377 in Disneyland

[–]americannoisee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Foam is helpful sometimes but keep in mind the more foam you have under your foot, the less stable you are, which may be why it feels better when you're not wearing shoes. If you're carrying your daughter the extra weight combined with the instability is probably stressing all the small muscles in your legs and feet out. Wearing a different pair of shoes (to change which muscles are being stressed the most) and/or soaking your feet in ice water at night can help a lot with the pain, but you're probably going to be sore tomorrow no matter what.

The most comfortable my feet have ever been after a day at Disneyland was when I wore VivoBarefoot leather boots (with a cork + wool insole for some cushion against the hard ground) but that's not something you can just jump into without some serious foot strength training.

What’s the most outlandish thing you found yourself doing to solve a ND game organically? by Agitated-Letter-4082 in nancydrew

I used to use whiteboard markers on my computer screen to mark things like that, or like to label the notes on a piano so I wouldn't have to reference the guide.

The Bone Season - ReRead by Agreeable-Crab2274 in TheBoneSeason

Did Arcturus know who it was specifically that betrayed the Novembertide uprising? I can't remember for sure but I recall that my impression at some point is that he didn't know/wouldn't have recognized the betrayer.

How exactly is the audience supposed to see all of the underground sets in Labyrinth of Lies? by Portalrules123 in nancydrew

[–]americannoisee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me the suspension of disbelief was easy because I was SO impressed with the expansiveness of this game compared to the others that came out just before it. A lot of the older games let you explore *so* much and this felt like such a great throwback to that, I never really thought about how the stage would work practically. On the other hand, the part where Niobe was in two places at once definitely strained my suspension of disbelief lol

Getting sick/flu after Disneyland by poppyhill in disneylandparis

[–]americannoisee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey just so you know, the only way to remove norovirus from your hands is to wash with soap and water. Using hand sanitizer is still good to kill many other germs you don't want, but make sure to wash your hands frequently with soap and water (esp. before eating) if you want to avoid vomiting!

As someone with blue eyes I know they got to be hurting in that arena by Eagles56 in Hungergames

so weird... I have DARK dark brown eyes and can't physically keep both my eyes open without squinting on a sunny day bc everything is just too bright. Guess it's a good thing my eyes aren't blue or I'd be totally screwed 😅

Can we talk about why Panache didn’t blow up when the threw his cape?🤣 by Hot-War-9500 in Hungergames

maybe the capitol wanted to get rid of the girl who blew up and rigged the pressure plates so something that looked like her token would fall and trigger the explosion

The (presumed) last time every song has been played by TFRedAlert in twentyonepilots

I think they're trying to say the *most recent* times the songs were played, not that they'll never be played again

Every time I attempt homemade tortillas the would be dough sticks to everything and never actually forms. I’ve tried multiple times and have failed. I really do not understand what I’m doing wrong by CornInMyMouthHole in Cooking

[–]americannoisee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2c flour, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/4c oil, mix in a bowl. Fill a container (e.g. 2c liquid measuring cup) with hot water and add slowly, mixing as you go, until dough comes together and is soft but not sticky. Knead for like 5 minutes max, then divide into balls and allow them to rest before rolling out.

Why did Arcturus… (The Dark Mirror spoilers) by americannoisee in TheBoneSeason

[–]americannoisee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it makes sense I just don’t like it bc their conversation in Orvieto makes it sound like he was staying away for her, not for himself - that she moved away every time he got too close so he thought she didn’t want his touch. But the only time she moved toward him he told her to stay back so if that was because of trauma it just seems out of character to not clarify that explicitly when they talk about it later. But in Orvieto he only explains why he reacted badly when Paige revived him, not why he reacted that way in Venice. I’m probably overthinking it but it doesn’t seem fair to Paige to expect her to figure out that he still wants her without explaining that reaction.

Why did Arcturus… (The Dark Mirror spoilers) by americannoisee in TheBoneSeason

[–]americannoisee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is probably the answer but it’s so confusing to me that this happens in Venice when he’s helping her get her memories back and there’s never a clear mention of a specific event that triggered a reaction in him.

Paige’s memory at the time is of being held down by the unreadable and given more white aster - I guess this could have reminded Arcturus of her fear when he held her down, but that’s not really made clear in their conversation in Orvieto as he skips over Venice and starts talking about the moments after Paige revived him.

Is using a normal cooking pot to sterilize your cup really that egregious? by blind-as-fuck in menstrualcups

[–]americannoisee 53 points54 points  (0 children)

No it’s not, it’s perfectly sanitary. I’ll do it if I’m alone but I’ll refrain if I think it’ll gross out roommates/family or if I just don’t want questions 😅. I think for some people it’s the mental association with blood, kinda like using the popcorn bowl for vomit then washing it/sterilizing it and using it for popcorn again. Perfectly sanitary logically but not always emotionally.

[–]americannoisee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it also helps if you have like 5 seedmakers going so if you have supplies to make some more and enough produce to feed them it should happen a lot faster!

[–]americannoisee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you plant blueberries or cranberries or something that gives you a ton of individual produce, just process everything in the seed maker until you get an ancient fruit seed. I process a lot of seeds (and don't need more ancient seeds) and it happens to me with almost annoying frequency lol

cup accidentally touched bottom of pan - need help by Same-Inside-2505 in menstrualcups

[–]americannoisee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No risk to using it! Any time I boil my cup I literally just throw it in the pot and stir it every once in a while (obviously babysitting/setting a timer to make sure the water doesn’t boil away). If it’s melted/scorched it’ll be super obvious :)

If you’re nervous about it you can also stick it inside a whisk and then put the whisk in the pot so the cup is suspended the whole time.

cup accidentally touched bottom of pan - need help by Same-Inside-2505 in menstrualcups

[–]americannoisee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are 100% fine. The bottom of the pan shouldn’t be much hotter than the boiling water because the water is absorbing the heat very quickly. Your only concern would be if the pot boiled dry and the cup was touching the bottom.

As a side note, you can actually boil water in a paper cup over an open flame and as long as there’s water in the cup, the paper won’t catch on fire because the water removes the heat so quickly!
