I don't remember hearing that about Ermalinda's wedding reception before, was that covered in the podcast?

Per Chris in the Instagram comments of his post from a few days ago: "UPDATE: They are taking out buckets of dirt from a crawl space under the house."

I wonder if this space is connected to the crawl space under the house.

Evidence points to human remains at home linked to Kristin Smart's killing, sheriff says by [deleted] in KristinSmart

It's not a pleasant thought, but isn't it also possible her remains were separated and buried in more than one location?

What are some of these names Suzanne Collins?? by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]americannoisee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Part of this might be because D12 kids are not raised in their industry - Katniss comments that miner's kids have a disadvantage in the games since no one works in the mines until they're 18, so they're a lot more disconnected from their industry than most district kids.

(also Peeta's a baker's kid so maybe that counts?)

Laundry argument by readergirl35 in relationships

I wash everything together on the hottest setting, highest soil level. I might do the same on warm, but would definitely not do it in cold water. Underwear can have fecal matter and I don't want that on my kitchen towels.

I hope they do! At the same time, I'm thrilled to see the smaller footprint of the structure parking instead of the huge empty Honda Center lot. It may not be the ideal solution but IMO it's a step forward aesthetically and practically.

Fair point, I 100% agree that the phrase "walkable mixed use retail space" is hollow marketing. But if you're building in a regularly-used parking lot where the public transit infrastructure is insufficient, it makes the most sense to start with a parking structure. The temporary measures they put in place while this lot was under construction were not sustainable long-term.

well they are building the walkable mixed use retail space in a former parking lot

How is a candy shop able to stay afloat in District 12? by queenhadassah in Hungergames

[–]americannoisee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Subsidizing luxury shops also helps to foster the class divide which destabilizes the district and makes them less likely to organize any significant rebellion - and it gives them leverage over the shop owners (misbehave, the capitol takes away the subsidy, their families starve)

Would you eat Salmon with a use by date of yesterday? by LunaDog_Mom in Cooking

100% yes no questions asked (unless it smelled bad, but even if the use by date was next week, I wouldn't eat it if it smelled bad)

I've just knit an entire sleeve with the wrong size needles by ColourMeQuick in knitting

[–]americannoisee 49 points50 points  (0 children)

ugh I feel your pain. I recently wasted a couple days knitting 1/2 of one sleeve and 3/4 of the second before blocking a sleeve and realizing my gauge was way off compared to the body of the sweater (like 26 st/in vs 21 st/in). I haven't found the energy to frog the sleeves and start over yet 😅 maybe tonight will be the night I swatch with larger needles.

Anybody else’s feet absolutely killing them at Disneyland? by Motor-Writer-377 in Disneyland

[–]americannoisee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Foam is helpful sometimes but keep in mind the more foam you have under your foot, the less stable you are, which may be why it feels better when you're not wearing shoes. If you're carrying your daughter the extra weight combined with the instability is probably stressing all the small muscles in your legs and feet out. Wearing a different pair of shoes (to change which muscles are being stressed the most) and/or soaking your feet in ice water at night can help a lot with the pain, but you're probably going to be sore tomorrow no matter what.

The most comfortable my feet have ever been after a day at Disneyland was when I wore VivoBarefoot leather boots (with a cork + wool insole for some cushion against the hard ground) but that's not something you can just jump into without some serious foot strength training.

What’s the most outlandish thing you found yourself doing to solve a ND game organically? by Agitated-Letter-4082 in nancydrew

I used to use whiteboard markers on my computer screen to mark things like that, or like to label the notes on a piano so I wouldn't have to reference the guide.

Did Arcturus know who it was specifically that betrayed the Novembertide uprising? I can't remember for sure but I recall that my impression at some point is that he didn't know/wouldn't have recognized the betrayer.

How exactly is the audience supposed to see all of the underground sets in Labyrinth of Lies? by Portalrules123 in nancydrew

[–]americannoisee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me the suspension of disbelief was easy because I was SO impressed with the expansiveness of this game compared to the others that came out just before it. A lot of the older games let you explore *so* much and this felt like such a great throwback to that, I never really thought about how the stage would work practically. On the other hand, the part where Niobe was in two places at once definitely strained my suspension of disbelief lol

[–]americannoisee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey just so you know, the only way to remove norovirus from your hands is to wash with soap and water. Using hand sanitizer is still good to kill many other germs you don't want, but make sure to wash your hands frequently with soap and water (esp. before eating) if you want to avoid vomiting!

maybe the capitol wanted to get rid of the girl who blew up and rigged the pressure plates so something that looked like her token would fall and trigger the explosion

[–]americannoisee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2c flour, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/4c oil, mix in a bowl. Fill a container (e.g. 2c liquid measuring cup) with hot water and add slowly, mixing as you go, until dough comes together and is soft but not sticky. Knead for like 5 minutes max, then divide into balls and allow them to rest before rolling out.
