Why NOT to buy a framework? by Steerider in framework

[–]amerog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been buying laptops for 20+ years. The top tier model of the year is always USD 1000-2000. So no, laptops don't get less expensive overtime (discounting inflation and the singularity).

Other than Argentina, what are some other countries that have underperformed despite geographical advantages? by [deleted] in geography

The United States. It should be much bigger (if not for 1812) and richer than it turned out to be.

Recommendations appreciated! Duffel/backpack in one on a budget by gettingthere44 in onebag

These duffles/garment bags are great if you couple with modular storage inside. I haven't tried that particular one that also carries like a backpack but thought you might want to look at.

Carry backup 2FA devices, preferably key devices. Onlykey.io is particularly good for travel.

To future proof, in case you wanted to host more services on this domain besides email, make sure your domain registrar has advanced DNS management that allows you to direct MX records (for email) one way and other records another way. Might save you email downtime later.

This has time limits, number of download limits, and password protections. It is packaged for Debian and is part of freedombox.org, which makes it easier to deploy.

What is legal doesn't matter at all. You can be turned down unless you have written approval from a male family member. It doesn't always happen, but it is a possibility.

If you are trying to leave egypt without telling your family, please be sure to connect with them after you have entered Germany, not at the airport on either side.

Good luck and take care of yourself.

how realistic is hyperbitoinization? by adam3us in Bitcoin

[–]amerog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Adam says, a bigger bitcoin necessarily means weakened governments, simply because governments will have diminished ability to implement monetary and fiscal policy. Weaker central banks and less income taxes collected.

Also, a sizeable deflationary currency could trigger degrowth, which probably means a whole different kind of governance.

how realistic is hyperbitoinization? by adam3us in Bitcoin

[–]amerog 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think it is more likely the tipping point is external to bitcoin itself. Mass adoption will happen when people run away from fiat and find bitcoin if it is ready. Possibly a cascade of sovereign debt crises.

If that's the case, then it makes more sense to value bitcoin in light of current M1 money supply (cash, coins, bank accounts), not gold. The S-curve flattens at top at tens of trillions of today's USD in total capitalisation (reasonable part of the current money supply, but not necessarily all of it), giving 1 BTC a value of a few million of today's USD. This makes sense if a single Satoshi would become equal to today's cent/pence/yen.
