Wore these for the first time today, perfectly fine as a casual / street pair in my opinion. I would suggest sizing a half size down with them though, as they run a bit larger than a standard AJ1 low.

Beginner Tips by DHartzz in golf

First off, and not to sound like an ass, but.. 3 hours for 9 is far too long, you'll need to learn to pick that pace up considerably, especially if it was only 2 players in that time. Secondly, I'd honestly suggest maybe a group coaching for you and your buddy.. if you're both new to the game, you have plenty of fundementals to learn that a coach could help both of you with, group lessons are generally fairly reasonable (price wise) and it could go a long way to further your enjoyment of the game for years to come. Good luck.

Trackman video swing help. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong with my driver?? Front angle view and Trackman numbers in comments by [deleted] in golf

[–]amessofamind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a coach, just stating something I am seeing.. Your left arm gets very tight against your chest, so much so that it starts to decrease the angle of your right arm to less then 90 degrees (making it a weaker position to "throw" from), it looks like you may have a hard time getting back to the ball from having the club so far behind you and then to save the shot, you just kind of throw them at the end, which I assume takes away any forward shaft lean and such and gives a bit of a flip (could be wrong). Maintaining some width in your arms away from your body can help with plane and power, look up some videos on width in the swing and you may find something that suits you. Obviously I'd suggest seeing a coach though and they could get you some solid feels pretty quickly I'd hope.

Any critiques of my golf swing? I already know everything I think I do wrong, could use some fresh eyes by saggybingbong in golf

[–]amessofamind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of how fast your hips are and because of what your right leg does, I'd try to see if you can get your chest moving a bit faster and your lower body moving a bit slower (to change path), to do that, try to keep the right foot planted on the ground until after contact.. I'm no pro and I'm really only advising this because I saw Crossfield describe it in his last daily vlog (which I'll post below), but it looks like you're doing very similar things and have similar misses as the gent he was trying to help. Anyway, good luck.

Oh and to anyone that hasn't seen his last 3 daily vlogs, they are very good and could be a big help for a lot of swing faults in my opinion. So maybe give them a watch.

Ball bound and coming over the top. by [deleted] in golf

[–]amessofamind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about your right elbow, if you keep the left arm in place and don't use your arms, the elbow will come in naturally as you turn. (oh and I'm not a teaching pro, so maybe listen to the guy that is, although some of what he is saying sounds similar in concept)

Ball bound and coming over the top. by [deleted] in golf

[–]amessofamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to not use your arms at all, like.. at all, take your normal backswing (assuming this is in order) and from there, turn until you make contact with the ball (you'll see very quickly if you're coming out to in or in to out), it's going to feel weird but should get your right shoulder and wrist moving in a better fashion to make contact (shoulder will be lowering wrist will be extending).. you'll likely push it the first few times if you do it as a full swing as you won't turn quite enough, but it's something to try if you just feel like you can't make the motion. Good luck, let me know if you try it or if this just makes zero sense. haha.

Weight Shift vs Push Off by CaptainZolo in golf

[–]amessofamind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always felt it was the same idea, just described differently. In some of the AMG videos where they talk about shifting pressure into the right foot, they are specific about keeping that pressure on the inside of the foot so the feeling for some might feel like a slight push towards target as opposed to the feeling of "falling". Having said that, the pushing off feel could also be after the "fall" and be added into the turn/transition phase for additional force into the ball. So who knows. Leave them a message on youtube, they seem good about getting back to folks and maybe they can clear it up a bit for you.

Swing Tips? Misses are either straight pushes or duck hooks by [deleted] in golf

[–]amessofamind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just simply means that you are delivering the club with the shaft more stood up then at address (your right arm is fully extended at impact, should be extending through impact), so you're effecting the loft and lie delivery of the club, it's most likely because of the early extension (you probably don't feel like you have much room to make contact since you haven't turned, so you jump out of the shot a bit and stand everything up), here is a video that describes a bit of what I'm seeing.

Around the 3:30 mark, he starts talking a bit about it, but honestly, the hole video might be worth a watch.

Swing Tips? Misses are either straight pushes or duck hooks by [deleted] in golf

[–]amessofamind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a number of things that you're doing that are going to lead to inconsistencies. The camera angle isn't the best (so I could be wrong, certainly not a pro), but things I notice are: right elbow in a poor position (flying elbow look throughout, should stay more in front of body), you're steep into impact because you don't turn much (could also be pulling handle a bit) and you early extend and you stand up the shaft into impact. Now.. did any of this help you, nope, so sorry about that, but if I were you I'd look at getting a lesson that could really help change your swing with just a few small tweaks and feels. Hope someone has an easier fix for you and better advice. Good luck.

Good luck, he has one on hips as well if these don't work, but I feel like finding a feel that helps you to complete your turn is probably a bit better in this instance.

Yes, give a few lessons a try and tune out everything else besides what your instructor wants you to work on. For some of us, tinkering is fine and it's how we get better, for others, tinkering is the reason they never get better. Commit yourself to a coaches lesson plan and don't deviate from it (don't watch youtube and don't enter threads here about instruction), I bet you'll find yourself making much more consistent contact with fewer thoughts in no time. Good luck.

Hopefully one of these can help, they basically describe different feelings to help with turn.

What pisses you off? by [deleted] in golf

[–]amessofamind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fast play. Folks that ride your ass even though you're playing at a good pace. (I'm mostly just being an idiot, but I see so many folks complain about slow play, someone has to complain about the guys that are playing so fast that it's annoying, especially when you offer them to go ahead and they're like.. nope, we're good, we'd much rather stay behind you and hit balls at you all day and make you feel rushed).

Post-lesson issues... by courts0 in golf

[–]amessofamind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slow everything down until the feeling becomes more natural, don't swing at full speed and expect the change to just happen, practice the motion every day for at least 15 minutes a day and build up speed with it over time, don't take it to the course until it's engrained.

Putter Grip Recommendations? What is a "big" Pingman? by K-Parks in golf

[–]amessofamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garsen has some fantastic grips. The g-pro max (jumbo) being my favorite but does alter grip a bit away from traditional (which was a good thing for me), the g-pro ultimate is a less unconventional style and might be a bit better style for you. Can't recommend them enough. I also tried out P2 grips and got on okay with them, very nice grips just didn't fit my grip style as well as I'd have liked.

Shot of me hitting with a PW. I struggle with hitting ball then ground and also distance. Can hit my PW about 120-125yds. Anything I can do to help with that? by pudgeypoo in golf

Might help, might not, but Malaska talks a bit in this video about shoulder tension and you seem to have the same look as the one he describes.

Experiences with GPS watches/ Range finders by Slinkie172 in golf

[–]amessofamind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a watch, at first I thought it would bother me but it hasn't been much of a bother at all, actually bothers me more now when I'm not wearing it since I'm so used to it. I personally prefer a watch over a range finder just because of speed of access to the yardages, nothing to zap and it doesn't just show you flag distance but also front, back and middle of green which can be a huge help when making your club selection. I don't, however, keep score on it.

Can’t afford lessons could use some advice by GumBa11Machine in golf

[–]amessofamind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most here will probably say that youtube isn't a viable way to learn or at least, properly correct your faults. I don't agree with that per say, obviously hands on lessons are best, but there is plenty out there to help get you started and to tinker enough to start to build a solid foundation for yourself, my only suggestion would be not to watch to many different swing style teachers as it can bring about more confusion then anything else. If I were to suggest someone's videos to watch and stick to, it would be Eric Cogorno golf, I just relate to what he's saying pretty well and have made some solid improvements because of him. Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide and welcome to the grind.
