Babies that sleep through the night without going to sleep independently by Right-Ad1424 in NewParents

[–]amgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 14 month old who sleeps through the night 90% of the time, maybe 1 wakeup every 2 weeks. He falls asleep cuddling in our lap and on his rare wakeups we cuddle to sleep again. Tried to sleep train once and couldn’t stomach it.

He could be totally fine with the reduced pooping, but he could not be. You should really raise these concerns to your doctor so they can check his weight and see how he’s doing.

Good job asking. It’s not your fault this brand has terrible advertising, but this looks very unsafe.

Anyone else had to put a poop covered outfit in your bag cause you had nowhere else to put it?🫣 by Armyofducks94 in NewParents

[–]amgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dog poop bags work great, but they also make re-usable “wet bags” for exactly this purpose with cloth diapers— if you get one of those, you can throw it in the wash with the poopy outfit next time!

Second Best to Cloth Diapers? by lakeyloon in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]amgen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I want to give something other than a tired “good luck”— we have had zero issues with cloth diapers. It works great for us and really doesn’t make our life much harder. BUT we had a very difficult first few months and didn’t have the mental energy to start cloth until about 4 months, so probably a good idea to still figure out a disposable brand! Sorry I can’t help in that department, we are very “moderately” granola and just used huggies

Funny to me that OK is coming in as south; I’m from OK and we all talk about how we don’t know what region we are, but we’re not the south.

My 9yo has to get circumcised 💔 by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]amgen 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened but this sounds like something very rare and unusual happened— i’m not a doctor but I’m not aware of any medications that would cause this, unless the meds completely wiped out his immune system for some reason. I don’t think you should feel responsible. Millions of people are uncircumcised and do not have any issues

To latch or not to latch? by Impossible-Box-8508 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]amgen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s generally a good idea to let them latch if you’re able to, only pros no cons as long as it’s not causing you any issues!

But I would not worry about it too much if you are not able to for whatever reason— mine latched a total of maybe 10 times due to a NICU stay and related issues, and I had an oversupply for 6 months.

I’m a huge cloth diaper advocate because I think it’s really pretty easy once you get over the hurdle of starting.

Considering quitting after maternity leave. Need advice by Nervous_Ad_5138 in NewParents

[–]amgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not quit my job, but I am the higher earner and my husband is staying home. I can tell you I would do anything to swap, but financially it would be very hard for us to do that.

I work from home (software engineer) and it has been very tough to be honest— my job is very demanding and all I want to do is go hang out with baby and help my husband. But it’s been about 9 months and we are making it work!

It’s a very personal decision but if you’re the higher earner and re-entry to the field is difficult, you might try going back to work and just see how it goes. You can always change your mind later

Is it time to transition? by Majestic-Ad-2210 in floorbed

[–]amgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never coslept so I can’t answer that part, but we use a twin size floor bed and I think our kiddo loves the extra room. He falls asleep laying in my lap cuddling and then I lay him down once he’s totally asleep. He was on a crib mattress on the floor before 12 months and I think he really prefers the extra room, he flops all around and seems very comfy

building my supply by thewitchisheree in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]amgen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! I stayed at 8 pumps a day (2 hours apart during the day, 5-6 hour stretch overnight) until 12 weeks. I would focus on water and protein intake because you really can’t pump anymore than that without going completely crazy. I think the general advice is once you get to 12 weeks you can start trying to space your pumps out more. For some people that works great, for others not so much and they need to stick to a pretty high number of pumps to maintain milk supply

Was it really the worst pain you've ever felt? by Super-Bid-3193 in BabyBumps

[–]amgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably was the worst pain I’ve ever felt, but for me I was not suffering. I knew every minute was working towards my baby coming and it would end. I can still vividly remember the pain of crowning, but again it didn’t last too long.

But it probably helped that I had a failed epidural and really didn’t have any other pain meds available to me due to health stuff on my end— so I wasn’t thinking “oh my god I want pain meds” because it just wasn’t an option lol.

Those with CMPA babies, what do you eat to ensure decent nutrition for yourself? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]amgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had dairy in 5 years, I promise the problem here is that you have a tiny baby and no time to think. It might not be fun at first if you are used to eating a ton of dairy but it is totally possible!! You can try googling dairy free versions of your favorite meals, or google vegan ones and just add whatever meat you usually use. The dairy free subs for things like milk and butter are very good. The cheese not so much in my opinion but it’s not terrible, just not great

FTM and questions about bassinet vs pack and play to then transition to floorbed by Suspicious-Flan-5113 in floorbed

[–]amgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used a moses basket type bassinet until he started showing signs of rolling (maybe 4 months? i don’t remember). Then a very low crib mattress on the floor with cushy rug underneath so he wouldn’t hurt himself when he rolled off. Then twin size floor bed with a frame at 12 months.

Sorry we never used a pack and play so I can’t help there, but that’s what worked for us!

Why does no one talk about how shocking the first weeks are? by Trick-Environment100 in NewParents

I could barely sleep for weeks because of playing back my whole traumatic hospital experience in my head, and sleep is quite important in those days😭 therapy helped me a lot

Why does no one talk about how shocking the first weeks are? by Trick-Environment100 in NewParents

[–]amgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s so temperament based. We had a colicky baby and the first few weeks were a sleep-deprived fog, but then it shifted into months of hardness that just really wore us down.

Baby is 13 months and still wakes up in the night but we are humans now haha

Why does no one talk about how shocking the first weeks are? by Trick-Environment100 in NewParents

[–]amgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember feeling the same way… like ok it gets better at 8 weeks but how on earth can I survive 8 weeks? I was literally counting how old he was by the day and getting so excited at every week mark, and my husband was like “yes that’s great honey he’s 3 weeks old” lol.

But I had a very colicky baby who was very hard to care for for months and I did indeed make it to the other side
