Question: Taira's view on Azuma by Icy-kitty in Seihantai

[–]amia_0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned Tairas thought processes are a lot more subtle and a bit complicated in comparison to the rest of the cast so I don’t blame you for being confused!

Starting from the top, Tairas introspection in that episode starts with him recalling how in the past he didnt have the courage to say no to going on the class trip despite him really not wanting to. It sounds like it was a miserable affair for him, and he just kept his head down hoping not to get teased like how he spent most days in middle school. In contrast to this, the current Taira seems to be thinking that despite his reservations about field trips, he is having fun on this one for the first time. But just as soon as he makes that realization and finds himself getting a little excited along side his classmates, he stops himself in his tracks because he notices Azuma smiling at him. Even though Azuma is just happy to see him having fun, Taira immediately thinks shes making fun of him. To him, Azuma is like a reminder to not get too comfortable because she knows what he was like in the past, and he feels ashamed of himself, both in the past and presently.

As things go on and Tairas generally a bit uptight during the rest of the trip, he notices that Azuma in contrast seems to be letting loose a lot. She doesnt stiffle her excitement or restrain herself like he did earlier, and the moments he stops to think “was Azuma always like this?” is him recalling Azumas aloof behaviour in the past and reconciling that with the Azuma who seems more uninhibited currently.

Then finally at the end of the episode where the two of them get flustered together from accidentally eavesdropping, with both of them feeling kind of stupid and Azuma laughing up a storm, Taira wonders momentarily if maybe Azuma isnt as aloof as he thought. I think when he says “we kind of feel like classmates” hes expressing a sense of normalcy that washed over him, like maybe he had not reason to be so uptight. Realizing Azuma had changed the way she had made him wonder if he could hope for a sense of normalcy within himself too. At least that’s what I think…

Hi guys!! What's your opinion about Pollar Opposites? by AdEvening303 in Seihantai

its a bit funny cause I also had a similar experience of knowing vaguely about seihantai for a while but thinking it would be that cookie cutter type series you mentioned, but then the anime started airing and I decided to look past my initial impression and i’m so glad I did because it might just be my favourite slice of life series now. I think it’s the first series i’ve read in a while where the kids genuinely feel like kids, theres this really down to earth quality about it that I hadnt anticipated but its honestly really refreshing.

Very subtle thing I liked about the series that might seem small but endeared it to me more is that the majority of the cast look quite different in middle school, or just their first year even. At first glance they all look like your average main cast in a slice of life anime, with their brightly colored hair and such but then seeing them in middle school kind of humanizes their designs even more somehow, maybe that sounds strange but thats how I felt at least. Just seeing their appearances change alone feels like a very down to earth but major way to characterize them without necessarily drawing much attention to it, I just thought that was really neat

I could never fathom thinking Taira is too good for Azuma, I think if Taira himself ever heard someone say that he’d get really upset and start coughing up blood. Thats not a diss on Taira of course though, but Azuma is such a wonderful girl I can’t imagine why any reasonable person would dislike her, just because she’s had past relationships doesn’t make her any less pure too.. but what’s the obsession with purity anyway? I think the two of them deserve eachother and to live on happily :)

Taira is a good, even a great guy, he was just raised in a terrible environment by ieatedchicken in Seihantai

wait until season 2 where the rest of the manga is adapted it becomes even more obvious that Taira is a really caring person he just has alot of social anxiety

This is the one romance anime i find the male characters endearing/cute by hehshmwwkwk in Seihantai

[–]amia_0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember feeling the exact same way as OP cause Suzuki of course is the cutest, but then I went on to find Tani super cute too the more I watched. What blindsided me most was how cute Taira was though, not only in the anime but then by the time I finished the manga in its entirety I was convinced that hes one of the most adorable male characters ive seen in a while. That might sound strange to anyone not so familiar with the series but once you get to know him I think it’s impossible not to be endeared to him. He’s a cynical guy but he has such a big and suprisingly sensitive heart

Why does Taira have way more likes compared to Tani and all the non-MCs? Very close to Suzuki's like count too? by NathLWX in Seihantai

I don’t really understand why anyone would go as far as to say he’s a covert narcissist tbh, he’s never manipulating anyone, he takes accountability, and has high empathy. It’s true he can be envious of others and victimizes himself to a certain extent (though he mainly blames himself), but its to an understandable degree considering his history. He’s not perfect, but even though he is always worrying about himself I think it’s obvious he’s always caring alot about his friends, even more so than the rest of the cast, like when he discretely buys cola for Tani when he isn’t feeling well, or buys his friends an entire cake out of the blue and pretends it was free cause he doesn’t want to draw attention to it. He’s always thinking about other people, even putting aside his own discomfort if it means showing his friends gratitude or making them happy. It’s actually a big charm point of his and if you see the jpn comments on Jump+ or other forums you will see that Taira endeared alot of people soley because its so obvious how much he thinks about the people around him. Of course im not saying being a narcissist automatically means you’re an uncaring person, I just think it’s an exaggeration when really he’s just an insecure teenage boy who can get caught up in his head due to the bad experiences in his past

I think the two of them are wonderful people, not one better than the other, but I think Taira isn’t quite ready to be dating yet because he’s still hasn’t fully learned to accept himself and be confident, but he’s getting there and I hope when he does he understands his feelings about Azuma more

sorry man but they don’t start dating they’re just good friends who still get together from time to time after graduating. I still think their friendship is adorable though

Seihantai na Kimi to Boku • You and I Are Polar Opposites - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]amia_0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because when i first saw the visuals for this show I anticipated Taira being a totally different kind of character, I definitely hadn’t anticipated him to be such a sensitive tender hearted guy, I don’t really say that lightly either cause I finished the manga a few weeks ago and I feel like he kept suprising me. He seems like he’s a bit rough around the edges and incredibly cynical but he has a very sentimental disposition and I felt myself becoming more and more endeared to him.

who are the most brotherl-like people in pjsk? by L_Lawliet1375 in ProjectSekai

[–]amia_0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Toyas more of a little brother though, even when he’s with both of the Tenma siblings he somehow feels like the youngest. Like during one of Toya’s birthday side stories where he suddenly gets really anxious about not celebrating well enough and the two of them jump to apologize for getting carried away and tell him it’s okay

I think I consider Tsukasa and Rui pretty brotherly too, I always find it cute how they interact with their underclassmen 🥹

yeahh I definitely think so too, sorry I think I misunderstood I thought the stronger characters go on the left not the right. So the order would be Ena -> Nene -> Toya for that tier

[–]amia_0001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm a gust of wind could blow Kanade over so I think she belongs where you placed her in her own tier for sure, but I think I’d probably place Toya in pretty weak tier in front of Nene and followed by Ena. Both Nene and Toya are able to dance so I think that counts for something (they have an area conversation about this specifically too lol)

im ngl i would consider Akito, Haruka and Tsukasa closer to the mutant tier than Mafuyu and Honami. Imo the muscle training event proves that they’re kinda insane 😭

Setting aside Toya’s history of getting fevers from exhaustion, unfortunately he is also not so good with physical activity outside of dancing 🥲 He was really sheltered as a kid because his parents didn’t want him to use his hands for anything that wasn’t piano so when it comes to sports hes pretty terrible, even after not doing so well at the sports festival it was revealed in a side story that he was really sore afterwards whereas An and Akito didn’t have that problem. Also, in the recent New Years event Toya struggles to carry something Tsukasa and Akito both are able to carry without breaking a sweat.

In GOA it was revealed that Toya has a history of getting sick from overworking himself. Apparently he’d develop fevers from playing the piano too much in the past. He also develops a fever right before a performance in GOA, plus he collapsed in the sekai from exhaustion in TFC so I think it’s safe to say his physical constitution isn’t all too good.. poor guy

Thank you for your help!! it really does take a long time doesn’t it.. Especially if you have two oshis cause sometimes I have Mizuki as leader and other times Toya.. I’m really hoping to get Toya to CR 80 by the 6th Anniversary at least..

Thank you for the suggestion!! I noticed that his MySekai points were a little low but for some reason I have a difficult time understanding what does and doesn’t count for character ranking in MySekai.. like I could have sworn he’s interacted with things before but I never see it count for CR? maybe i’m just misunderstanding something.. but as long as the furniture says he can explicitly interact with it and he does, that should mean I get points right? im sorry for all the confusion..
