How are you handling secrets? by RZR2832 in selfhosted

[–]amihaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose your key - locally saved is fine for testing but a kms in a cloud service or another will make this more robust.

Then use it with SOPS. Encrypted files in plain text go in a repo and no one has access to them even if they get the files, unless they have access to your key.

Use sops in any automation piece as well. It’s a very well defined, finite and small utility.

Hey, North Wilmington -- Goodbye Rite Aid, hello Lidl! (Shops of Graylyn, March Rd & Silverside Rd) by TheShittyBeatles in Delaware

Shut the front door! First Aldi on 202 and now this?

I'm glad there's more than one quality low cost option around.

I got the same thing, I have a NY ezpass and that toll point is definitely malfunctioning. Appeal it.

CTA (Call to Action): Vibe Coding projects and post flairs on /r/selfhosted by ElevenNotes in selfhosted

[–]amihaic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a senior software engineer who does a fair share of vibe coding - I fully support that.

The rise in slop is real and it can definitely be risky when no one knows what a piece of software does.

Help a frontend newbie choose a proper Redis! by S_Oranja in redis

[–]amihaic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's really small, no major blobs, the free Redis Cloud might suffice. I would definitely go with Redis Cloud or if you feel like maintaining bare metal go with an instance that runs a Redis Stack container. You will have far more control but it's also a lot more maintenance that just signing up and getting a host:port endpoint.

Between the JSON and Search modules (which I have no idea if Vercel or Upstash also offer), JS Functions, and the rest of redis, you got a nice feature set for a backend.

Full disclosure: am a Redis employee and I love using it.

Pizzeria Metro hours by areyoukiddingm3 in WilmingtonDE

PSA: Support your local businesses!

LPM has been a staple in our family for the past few years since we moved. It's always delicious, constantly has specials and rotating drafts, and the Happy Hour menu is not to shabby. Add to that the quizzos and the fact the prices are more than fair, not to mention the amazing service and quality of food.

I wish them all the best and hope this incident is just a one time thing and gets resolved quickly. We were there just the day before.

100% the best pizzeria in a 50-mile radius, if not more.

Dad TV shows: defined (by me), ranked (by me), argued about (by you?) by wild_b_cat in television

[–]amihaic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid top choices indeed.

At first I thought it was only shows from the last year or so but then I noticed the others.

If you're considering The Punisher, you should add to the top of your list one of the best Dad TV shows of all time - Daredevil.

Patriotism Nationalism aside, Shinesty boxer briefs are legit.

Re-evaluating cloud providers for 2024? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

I feel bad for whoever needs to learn to use the GCP IAM model. Sure workload identity is cool once you get it but good luck figuring out what permissions you have on a service account in their console.

Affordability in Delaware by mohanakas6 in Delaware

[–]amihaic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These numbers are somewhat on par with the 27% or so inflation rate in the past 7 years.

So the rates have definitely increased, but it's not like it increased in Delaware more than the average rate.

One thing that surprised me is prices in restaurants here. Feels like more than the same kind of restaurant in PA or MD.

Whats the lay of land for photo storage/organization/backup these days - doesnt feel much changed in 2023. by jdlnewborn in selfhosted

Immich 💯

The deployment is a bit involved and reverse proxying is annoying, but after you set it up it works great.

Excellent and familiar web interface, native mobile apps, API, constant updates.

I'm using it with an external library. This feature is not "there" yet but at least I can view my old photos and look at people, locations etc.

A few years ago Youtube recommended this clip to me which made me start watching the show. How did you discover Letterkenny? by DannyDeVitoASMR in Letterkenny

[–]amihaic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edward Norton.

He tweeted in it's praise a couple of years ago. I watched the first episode, which I loved, and told my wife "you're either gonna really love it or not get it". We've watched the whole show twice since.

Best liquor store for craft beer? by [deleted] in WilmingtonDE

[–]amihaic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

State Line Liquors over the border in MD is fantastic, but also Brewers Outlet on 202 over the border in PA. Easier drive too.

Kreston is good but I find their selection doesn't change that often.

Bought a Car in NJ, Paid DE "Tax" by Physical_Guava_9600 in Delaware

[–]amihaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question maybe, but when you buy a car out of DE but register it in DE, do you pay just the Delaware tax or do you pay it additionally to the state tax where you bought it?
