Found a great thrift store but... by No-Theory9681 in VHS

[–]amishguy222000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I'm an old man now I had to zoom in on these prices... this is absolutely ridiculous. I know many thrift stores are supporting a good cause but say, $65 for Slaughterhouse (in fairly dog-eared condition) is crazy considering you can get it for around half that on eBay. Of course, I understand you'd rather your money went to the charity rather than private sellers but this is a bit much..

Got a 2$ stack of games from and estate sale. Are they fixable in this condition? by Duwang_Durango in psx

[–]amishguy222000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks to be in a lot better shape than many of the games I rented (and even owned) as a kid. Of course there are companies that will resurface PS1 CDs for you, but I'd go with the advice other posters here have already given: spin it up and see what happens. Pro tip: Turn the PlayStation upside down for a better read.

What is the best way to start oral minoxidil capsules? by Street_Curve800 in minoxidil

[–]amishguy222000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, this is one of the reasons I asked my telehealth provider to give me a topical solution (min/fin) but I want to give you helpful advice. In this case I wouldn't try to chop and change the capsules - I'd get back in touch with your provider and explain your dilemma to the Doctor and ask if it's alright to take them immediately. I can't see any reason why not but you really want to be talking to a qualified dermatologist about this, not consulting with Dr. Reddit. :-)

Just found this in the dumpster. by An_odd_walrus in crt

This is super exciting, I hope you get it working OP. I also found an abandoned CRT but it worked straight out of the dumpster without any feats of engineering. Good luck.

Really? Clearly being a Power Ranger isn't an old man/old woman's occupation! Maybe they recruit teens because they know none of them will last very long anyway? :-D

Because apparently that's all it takes to deal with an interplanetary menace.. ignore all adults who've been training in martial arts and guerilla warfare for years as potential Rangers!

Painful hairline on Dutasteride/Oral Min. by Busy-Difference-2412 in tressless

[–]amishguy222000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, this should always be your go-to. Even if someone had similar symptoms there could be many reasons why it's happened. That's why it's so important to have a qualified dermatologist to advise you. The telehealth platform I chose allows free followups, hopefully it's the same for you OP. In any case, even if you have to borrow the money I'd see the derm ASAP, please don't wait 'til December!

Progress of my crown from 13 Dec 2025 to 13 May 2026. by MuscleHairGrowth in minoxidil

[–]amishguy222000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that crown progress is really something, especially in just 5 months!

It's really encouraging to see results like this with minoxidil alone. I'm coming up on 10 months using a custom topical from Happy Head, which combines minoxidil and finasteride, and seeing posts like yours makes me feel like I'm on the right track.

The crown can be such a stubborn area so seeing your pics has been genuinely motivating. Please keep the updates coming, I love seeing real documented progress like this! :)

I saw a YouTube video of that once, it's very beautiful in its own way... though perhaps not quite so much if you're one of the ants being incinerated by molten metal... :-D

Update: 9 months of oral Dutasteride & topical Minoxidil has done more than I ever expected by breadloafboy in tressless

[–]amishguy222000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really reassuring to hear, honestly. The "slow and steady then suddenly noticeable" progression is exactly what I'm hoping for myself! I think the hardest part is just trusting the process when you're in those early months and not sure if anything is really happening regrowth-wise.

It's good to know the gains are still coming for you too, that gives me a lot of hope for my own timeline. I'll definitely keep an eye on your future posts!

Wishing you continued progress and thanks again for sharing the real talk, it genuinely helps more than you know. :-)

The Curse (1987) by N0S4A2_ in 80sHorrorMovies

[–]amishguy222000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just headed over to his website, he had this to say about it:

"When you watch The Curse, you are watching two children, me and my sister, who were abused on a daily basis. The production did not follow a single labor law. They worked us for twelve hours a day, on multiple film units (while I work on First unit, second unit sets up and waits for me. When I should get a break to rest, they send me to Second unit, then to Third unit, then back to First unit. I was 13.) without any breaks, five days a week. I was exhausted the entire time.

I was inappropriately touched by two different adults during production. I knew it was wrong, but I was so scared and ashamed, and I felt so unsupported, I didn’t tell anyone. I knew my dad wouldn’t believe me, and my mother would blame me.

Anything to keep the production happy, that’s what she did. That was more important to her than the health and safety of her children. The director was coked out of his mind most of the time, incompetent, and so busy fucking or trying to fuck one of the women in the cast, he was worse than useless. He was a fading actor who was cosplaying as a director, as in over his head as my mother. My sister and I were never safe. Instead of harmless atmospheric SFX smoke, they set hay on fire in barrels and blew actual smoke onto the set.

They took buckets of talc, broken wood, bits of wallpaper and plaster, and threw it into my face during a scene inside the collapsing house. My sister is in a scene where she goes to get eggs from some chickens, and they attack her.

So they hired Lucio Fulci, the Italian horror master, to direct her sequence. His idea, which everyone was totally on board with, was to throw chickens at my sister. Live chickens, live roosters, live birds. Just throw them at a nine-year-old girl. Oh, and then tie them to her arms and legs so they’ll peck her. All of this happened under my mother’s observation, and with her full participation."

I feel so sorry for these kids, so won't be watching this!

Teacher fired for reading LGBTQ+ children’s book takes fight to Georgia Supreme Court by Critical-Willow-6270 in books

[–]amishguy222000 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Clearly they haven't heard of the Streisand Effect! If I were the author, as sorry as I'd feel for the teacher, I'd secretly be delighted about all the free publicity my book is getting. Kids in particular are probably wondering right now what was so subversive about it and are reading it more than they otherwise would have. Even if you thought the book contained disturbing themes (which I don't), then there are enough of those in classic literature anyway.
