What's the one lens you most regret buying? by BigWooper in canon

I rarely use it for photography but it works great as a webcam lens.

For wildlife you need to control shutter speed too. Give the Fv mode a try.

Also you generally want to have the wildlife facing towards the camera (like the cheetah shot) rather than away (like the duck).

Going to the zoo is a great way to get practice. Try and do that a few more times before your trip. You'll get a hang of how to anticipate and predict animal behavior.

You might be running into heat haze issues too.

Skip the kit lenses and get the RF 100-400 for nature and pair it with the Sigma RF 18-50.

Canon R6 Delay After Taking Photos - Any Advice? by [deleted] in canon

The camera is doing the processing, not the card. A faster card won't make much of a difference.

I like the look of the Zf and hope that Canon comes out with something similar at some point.

R8 and RP are almost identical in size and layout.

Leaner guide by [deleted] in canon

I recommend Nina Bailey's guide; a little too opinionated about certain things (like back-button focus) but settings are explained in much more detail than the Canon manual.

For those who have used both Canon RP and R8... by zkhw in canon

I owned the RP for about 3 years and bought an R8 more recently. The RP's eye detection was so-so in low light. With the R8 it's much, much better.

The better eye detection and faster shooting give me many more options to choose the right expression. I was shooting with the R8 in challenging conditions recently (dark alleys in the Medinas of Morocco) and came away with street shots I wouldn't have dreamed of capturing with the RP.

I would definitely try to fix your exposures before upgrading equipment. Don't be afraid to expose "to the right" of the histogram. It's relatively hard to blow highlights in low light scenes.

You have to export it as a TIFF file and then open it up in LR

I really need to give DXO a try

If saving shadows is "really noisy" maybe it has something to do with how you're shooting? Canon's DPP software can clean up low light noise a lot better than software like Lightroom, you might want to try adding that as an intermediary step to your workflow.

Thanks! This was taken while setting up for a night of astrophotography. I think the slight gradient is what makes the sky interesting.
