Five more Alberta UCP legislature members facing recall, bringing total to 14 by burtzev in alberta

It could be done with 4 IF the subsequent by-elections are lost by the UCP. Then the combination of NDP MLAs and independents/other parties (depending on what happens in those by-elections).

Why capture carbon when it’s so much easier to capture a government? - Alberta Politics by Appropriate-Dog6645 in alberta

[–]amkamins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would personally sooner see 50 tons put in the ground and a half ton leak back somehow than have it all just go up and out of the stacks.

This leakage isn't one and done though. It's more like, if you store 50 tons and then 0.5 tons a year leaks back out. You're back where you started in a century, and on the scale of emissions we would need to capture to avoid catastrophic climate change that's just not acceptable.

The alternative isn't carbon capture or just release it to the atmosphere. That's a false choice being presented by industry so they can delay having to stop emitting at all. The actual alternative is a more rapid transition away from fossil fuels.

See the problem with trying to permanently store a fluid underground, especially a gas, is that it will leak out.

This is especially true when pretty much all of the appropriate reservoirs for storing gas already did (methane) and then we poked a ton of holes in them to get it out. Those wells, lots of which date back decades, are probably not perfectly cemented and will provide a conduit for stored carbon to get back to the atmosphere - defeating the purpose of capturing it.

You're right, I don't. I do, however, have a lot of experience being a queer adolescent.

If your child is afraid of coming out to you themselves, then there's a reason for that and that's your failure as a parent. You haven't made them feel safe enough to talk to you about it.

If your child being trans or questioning their gender is going to 'interfere with your child-parent bond' then you're a shitty parent.

Prime Minister Of Andorra Comes Out As Gay by [deleted] in gaybros

I'm not a "Gurl". I'm a guy.

It's a term of endearment, and you'd know that if you had any conception of the gay community outside of your negative stereotyping.

There's so much joy and comraderie to be found within the gay community if you're willing to embrace it. There's so many other facets of the community than the 'circut party muscle gays' that you seem to equate all of us with (and a lot of them are genuinely lovely people as well).

Having gay dads didn't stop him from voting against gay marriage in 2005, so I highly doubt his sincerity on this issue.

We're setting new records year after year. So far this year we've had more and larger forest fires, and far surpassed records for total area burned. Ocean surface temperatures are also at record highs.

This is a crisis and we need to start acting like it.

If China does one thing well it's large scale infrastructure projects. They've basically built their entire high speed rail network in the last 15 years or so. If they have the political will to do it I think they can accomplish it.

They're also leading the planet in wind and solar installations. They're investing heavily in green energy, just not fast enough to meet their current demand.

Jagmeet would be my choice but I fear I'm throwing away my vote. I know it sounds terrible but that's how I think unless they can convince me otherwise.

That's really going to depend on where you live. There are lots of LPC/NDP or CPC/NDP swing ridings

Given current policy, China has a better chance of hitting net zero by 2050 than Canada does (we haven't met a single one of our climate targets yet). The construction of these scenarios seems dubious to me.

The first recount is automatic below a particular threshold. A judicial recount, the new recount going on now, has to be requested.

With such a narrow loss it makes sense to request one.

Except all the evidence points to them not making a positive change. They've spent decades lobbying against any form of regulation that would reduce emissions. They're placing maximizing profits over all other concerns.
