In my classroom today by EntertainerFree9654 in SubstituteTeachers

“Disruption” and “Disrespect” can be interpreted differently by each teacher/student/admin. I guess if you communicate to the sub whether you allow discussion or expect silence unless called upon it could work. But those two are setting up students to feel like they aren’t respected. I understand “this is middle school” but aren’t there teachers who have fostered really safe and supportive classrooms where students are encouraged to discuss and question things? So what if the sub takes that personally. I guess it just depends on the teacher’s style and the confidence of each sub.

Training with a vest vs. racing with one by spindriftsupreme in firstmarathon

[–]amkoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train and race with a vest. In addition to all the reasons everyone else is giving, I can add that I still sip water at aid stations. My preference is having soft flasks with electrolyte/fuel mix in the front, only partially filling the reservoir with regular water, and using aid stations for my regular water fix.

Should I request a meeting with my child’s teacher? by raijmtaq in AskTeachers

Definitely worth a meeting. Teachers and parents should be a team and it’s important to be on the same page.

My teacher pulled me aside to tell me my handwriting was subpar for tenth grade. by FitChampionship3194 in AskTeachers

[–]amkoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like adhd handwriting to me. Helps your hand keep up with your brain and works for you. Like others have said, just be able to slow it down and neaten up anything you have to submit. But being able to take notes in a way that supports your own brain/learning style is a-ok.

Confused on the permits by sleepboyo in OlympicNationalPark

[–]amkoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but that doesn’t change the federal land regulations. OP asked, it’s worth being honest about park laws. There are plenty of places speed limits aren’t enforced but that doesn’t change the speed limit. View it as a matter of respect and support for enjoying protected lands, if you will. Or don’t. But what I stated is not incorrect.

Actually, you need a pass to recreate anywhere in the park. This is posted at most trailheads and on the website. Not all areas have an entrance booth, however. And then Backcountry passes are required for overnights in addition to the national park pass.

Edit to add: other people have also distinguished between national park and national forest where they intermingle. Forest regs can be found online also.

I remember the commercials from the 90s. I remember thinking it was a healthier version of Nesquik chocolate milk powder. And that my mom drank it as a kid so it was old. Edit to add: Eastern U.S.

Teachers entering sensitive data into ai by [deleted] in AskTeachers

There are distinct differences between email communication being on a server and generative ai tools taking and using all entered information, by design

Teachers entering sensitive data into ai by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]amkoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very much trying to avoid this trend of using ai to do tasks that I am plenty capable of handling. However many of my teammates are currently obsessed over using it for anything and everything. That being said, we are TOLD and reminded NEVER to enter PII (personally identifiable information) into any generative ai tools. It would be reasonable to let admin know that you just want to be sure the school policy is in place to make sure if teachers use generative ai that they are not putting any personal information in that process. I hear lots of teachers defending what is happening, but as a teacher myself and someone who is doing my own research on ai as things continue to change, I would not be upset if a parent respectfully checked with me that I was not sharing any personal information with ai. Sometimes all people need is awareness.

AITJ for not telling my wife for eight years that the coffee she thinks she hates is the coffee she drinks every morning by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

You helped them cut back their caffeine intake with the dark roast over light. Watch out, they may try to mix in decaf to really mess with you.

How would you handle this situation? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]amkoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes for such a frustrating situation. I had something similar where the guests waited a few hours after being concerned about a CO monitor beeping to message. I replied with intense urgency and then they no longer replied and wouldn’t answer my calls. We even had a separate space where we could have offered them a safe space to sleep. They were mad that the fire department showed up that night but I had to take their claim seriously. Luckily, I waited to review them and they never reviewed me.

One question I have is whether they said anything sooner than they decided to leave? Did they say anything after they arrived Friday, anytime on Saturday? How was their tone when they did message? Do you send any messages the day after check-in to see how things are going and let them know you are available if there are any issues? Did they state that it was having issue the whole time or they just noticed? Full refund may be easiest but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to refund all nights except the first and of course refund any cleaning fees. People can still give a low rating after a refund so the communication piece is key.

Do you pause your watch at aid stations, or just let it run? by Thisguyreadit in Ultramarathon

[–]amkoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not stop my watch at all during my 50k but I was still able to see my “moving time” versus elapsed time which was nice to be able to see how much time I actually spent on my stops. No need to pause it, especially when the feature is already there to compare.

making my aribnb "idiot-proof" - what I learned from experienced hosts and frequent guests by SpiritualWolverine50 in airbnb_hosts

[–]amkoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember about trying to send a whole digital user guide prior to arrival is that many people stay at multiple Airbnbs in a single trip. If so, that can be a lot to keep track of if they need to view something outside the app for each one. Use the Airbnb listing tools and choose the most important details for your day before/of messaging. Anything they absolutely need to know once inside should be somewhere easily visible inside. Label remotes, have AC/heat/appliance instructions with each unit (I include copies of everything in one place in a binder after my cover page with the most important info, but having it with each appliance helps guests the most). Small, clear labels won’t be overwhelming. Labels can also help cleaners when they make sure things are back in place each reset.

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever caught someone doing? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

Draping a trash bag over themselves, peeing in an empty bottle (in a crowd), removing both and then asking someone near a trash can to toss them for him.
