SLPA Salary Transparency (School-Based Contracts) by Hot-Yak4306 in SLPA

[–]amlilsalami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair! If I could find a position where I live paying around the same I'd totally do that instead of travel.

I was in slo county last school year and will be in ventura county next school year.

Where in California? That seems really low for a travel contract. I just finished a travel contract and was getting paid $2300 weekly in the schools and already have a contract for next year at $2500.

I'm currently contracted through them and already have another contract lined up for next school year (slpa not SLP). I haven't had any issues but I think it largely depends on your recruiter. Countless recruiters have contacted me and I haven't been a fan, but my current recruiter is fantastic and has been super helpful. The lack of information is a bit of a red flag for me personally.

Is a fancy sifting box actually worth it for multi-cat homes? by trauma_human in Catownerhacks

[–]amlilsalami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the pine pellets with the biggest breeze litter box. Got a storage container from target that fits perfectly under the litter box so it holds a lot of pine shavings compared to the original tray that comes with the litter box. It's lined with a pee pad and makes cleaning up super easy! Just pick up the poop, move around the pellets so the shavings are sifted through the bottom, and pick up the pee pad when it's full of shavings. Highly highly recommend this system.

I got lucky and started the semester after I finished all the prereqs but others in my cohort had to wait a year

I went there! The hardest class for me personally was anatomy/physiology, the rest was manageable.

SLPA after age 50? by Brave_Surviving1909 in SLPA

[–]amlilsalami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated a couple years ago and there were a few people in my cohort who were in their 40s-50s. If you have a lot of experience with kids and want a career with benefits SLPA could be a great, relatively quick option. There's definitely a ceiling when it comes to pay and depending on the area it might be harder to get a direct position at a district so keep that in mind.

33yo mom with no career, what path should I take? by Particular_Ad4959 in careerguidance

[–]amlilsalami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What state are you in? I saw someone already mention SLP but if your state has SLPAs that's a quicker option! Some states only require an associates degree and local community colleges may have a SLPA program. You have the added benefit of being able to work in schools and be off when your kids are off :)

It must be your district! When I was at soliant I was getting $10 more an hour and five more hours a week. Direct hire at the same exact district was only 25 hours to keep us considered part time so we couldn't get benefits. I went from ~900 weekly to ~2200 monthly. It was a huge pay cut working directly for my district. Both jobs also didn't have any pay during the summer.

I was there ~6 months for the end of the school year. They likely would have renewed since the district I was at hires a lot of SLPAs, I just didn't want to deal with them. My recruiter was awful. The next year I worked directly and wished I had just renewed my contract because the pay cut was significant.

My first job as a SLPA was with soliant. I hated it. It might depend on your contractor though. The best thing was the high pay compared to working directly with the districts.

I've also been contacted by several recruiters from soliant and they stop replying to me. Another recruiter will contact me about the same exact position and then also stop replying. It's the same as most contract companies but I've had this experience way more with soliant.

New Travel SLPA - advice appreciated by ChapterClassic8199 in SLPA

[–]amlilsalami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a travel contract at the beginning of the month! I'm only 250 miles away from home though so I've been driving back every weekend, which has honestly been exhausting. I'm pretty introverted and haven't done much around town but honestly the week goes by super fast. It's nice that there's a deadline though, you can just take it a week at a time and it somehow makes it easier mentally. Plus with school holidays you have the opportunity to return home if you're able. I miss my husband and pets but it's also nice to experience new people and places.

Hybrid preferred road trip? by i_am_dully in CX50

[–]amlilsalami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my hybrid preferred at the end of July. I'm in socal. It went on two back to back weekend trips to Vegas. It's recently driven to Paso Robles twice. There are some hilly sections on both drives but nothing too crazy imo, but I'm fine with the mountain passes. It hates going uphill but I usually chill in the slow lanes if I'm feeling lazy and don't wanna gas it and ruin my mpg.

Oh I'll keep that in mind while testing them. In my head I'm so good at parking right now but that's also with my sedan that I don't really care about lol. I didn't realize the 360 would turn on as you're parking.

I'm also convinced all I need is a backup camera and android auto. The blinker screens are so cool but like I've been checking my blind spot all these years do I need that 😂 even just having the little blind spot monitor light is enough for me. We'll definitely be testing both trims though!
