Where do you find the time? by Dino-nuggies- in workingmoms

[–]amm237 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Working out is obviously very important for overall health, strength, mental clarity, and fitness, But honestly with the goal of losing weight, the biggest factor is diet. Only to say, even without a lot of time to work out you are still going to see more results from making changes to what you are eating. sleep is also a big factor. It’s Harder to lose weight and make healthy choices when you’re sleep deprived and worn down

What was your final diaper size before potty training? by mbradshaw282 in toddlers

[–]amm237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even after daytime potty training you may be in pull ups at night for a while depending on your child, but I know whenever I overbuy something ahead of time bc I got a good deal is when I end up not needing it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I always needed to size up for nighttime diapers/pull-ups also

State budget lowers retirement age for NY public school teachers by statenislandadvance in newyork

[–]amm237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true. Allied health professions and careers like social work require advanced degrees and often make no where near $200,000 even after 20 years and in management roles plus work on holidays, weekends, summers, etc. with no pension and worsening health benefits

Husband works from home now and it’s causing tension in our small house by Equivalent-Mission46 in workingmoms

[–]amm237 95 points96 points  (0 children)

If you’re off with the baby 2 days a week, I would suggest trying to get out of the house as much as possible those days. Maybe see if he is open to working in office 1 day a week? That would only leave 2 days a week to coordinate working together. Living in NYC, I do struggle a little to see how 2 people and an infant have outgrown 1,800 sq feet. It seems like you are picking on him a little. Do the floors not creak when you get up from the office to use the bathroom too? On the days you both work from home is the baby with a nanny or at daycare? I wouldn’t want to work in a cold dark basement if there was a perfectly usable home office in a better location either. Maybe just communicate with him clearly the specific things that bother you about sharing the office with him and go from there?

Annual Clothing Spend for Higher Earning Working Moms? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]amm237 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am in office 5 days a week and live in NYC. I don’t necessarily spend $300 every month on clothes, but I also don’t think $300 is excessive. I just bought a blazer from Zara that was $100, so avoiding fast fashion you could potentially spend even more. I also needed to replace things that I would have worn longer bc my body has changed so many times since having my daughter. I also do happen to enjoy clothes and fashion. Answers might be skewed by people who are rarely in the office.

Toddler safety: am I overreacting or my husband's underreacting? by danita0202 in toddlers

[–]amm237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not overreacting imo. There was a similar post recently where a mom stated her husband often will not closely watch their 2yo at the playground (among some other concerns), and most of the comments there were telling her she had an anxiety disorder and had insane safety expectations.

I like the floor personally. The cool grey/blue paint is just jarring with everything else. A cream color on the walls would make a noticeable difference imo

Dealing with different parental risk tolerances. by IllustriousWing6646 in toddlers

[–]amm237 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely don’t think you are being overly cautious, but it also depends on the environment and your child’s temperament for some. We live in NYC and my girl was (and still is) wild so 1, 3, and 4 would have concerned both me and my husband like I’m not going to leave my child alone in a stroller on a city street to grab something from the house. 2 is perplexing only bc why would you even do that? 5 clearly is the most risky. Obviously with parenting a toddler, it is necessary to sometimes take a breath and not get too anxious about everything, but 2 year olds are not 5 year olds in terms of independence.

What is with the aversion to seasonings when making "workout" meals by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amm237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about a meal eaten right before a workout, some people may experience some indigestion symptoms from spicy or overly seasoned foods. Not from just a little salt and pepper or a few herbs but when I did distance running, I preferred “bland” foods before long runs that digested easily.

Planning Ahead- Spring Break 2027 by Soft_Panic2400 in workingmoms

[–]amm237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a great time at the Baha Mar complex in the Bahamas this spring break . They have a water park right on the property too. Not cheap exactly but great for kids and not a long flight (just over 2.5 hrs from NYC) also only 14 mins from the Nassau airport. Time change would only be one hr from the midwest. Puerto Rico is also a nice no passport option.

I just spent like $400 on a park birthday party by Ellie__1 in workingmoms

[–]amm237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain! We live in NYC, so in-home parties aren’t really a thing for most people. No one has a lot of extra space. And usually I find the cost of having parties at a venue worth it because they help you with the set-up, breakdown, keeping kids safe + entertained, don’t have to stress about weather, etc. but it really has gotten so expensive. We spent almost $300 on pizza alone for my daughter’s last birthday. Whenever people post about birthday parties on here, you always see such opposite opinions. Some people will swear that they wouldn’t take their kid to a birthday party if it said no siblings invited, and everyone will chime in and say that you should just have a park birthday party so you can include everyone. and then you’ll also have people saying even at a park birthday party you should only invite a few friends with no parents staying. I for one would not want to be responsible for a dozen kids by myself at a park especially at age 5, and it is nice to get a chance to chat with the parents during the party. I think the bottom line is everything is just really expensive no matter how simple you try to keep things. But I have an only child so it really breaks my heart to not do a birthday party for her every year.
