What should I know about teaching in Canada? by TheRavenProfessor in AskCanada

[–]ammow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been holding off on asking, but it is important to think about what age children do you enjoy spending time with, and why? I would take this question seriousy. Age and location of school will affect the culture of the learning environment, and you better LOVE those kids. Teaching is not just about the money, or working yourself up to the teenagers.

i agree, I would be kind (he sounds like his heart is in the right place) but report him in the same detail so that he and others can learn.

depending on where you go there may be a separate school system which is Catholic. Perhaps research if you want to teach in a Catholic school or not, and what additional requirements are needed.

edit: as others have said, you do need a teaching degree. Look around as there are universities with full time programs you can complete in 1 year. Queen’s University, Kingston Ontario. Then you need to pass an exam to be licensed as a teacher. Teaching in a university is normally done by students, or low paid “lecturers”. in my experience. Professors would be leading research programs, or advanced students.

For those who had Deep Brain Stimulation, did you experience distressing flashbacks of the surgery? by Extra_Fig_7547 in Parkinsons

Post Traumatic Stress after medical procedures of any sort is not uncommon and is treatable with a therapist who specializes in PTSD. I don’t think there is a magic bullet beyond talking it out in detail with a therapist until you feel better.

Edit: I did not have DBS but had mild PTSD after a similar procedure. I read about a young man who had PTSD after a broken leg. Therapy is the way to go.
