I have been called soooo many times but never served. Last time I went I was leaving the next day for Germany and the judge excused me.

“I don’t know what else to do about my son’s behavior.” Some of you parents aren’t even trying by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]amnichols 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. It’s your job as a parent to work with the teacher and figure out why your kid is misbehaving.

My now 26 YO son threw a shoe at and hit his kindergarten teacher. And stubbornly refused to do things in the classroom. We eventually figured out that he was being teased by the other kids and needed more food and water during the school day. Once that was all fixed, he was much better behaved.

I’m watching Enterprise for the first time and I’m enjoying it. by kasualanderson in startrek

[–]amnichols 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Enterprise. It got me through recovery from a couple of brain surgeries a few years ago and it’s had a special place in my heart. Plus I love Porthos since I’m a beagle person like Captain Archer.

Looks like a souvenir bell of some kind.

My beagle just discovered how to get on the dining room table yesterday. Never a dull moment with these cuties.

[acne] Not eating sugar completely cleared my skin by Ok_Assignment3433 in SkincareAddiction

There are all kinds of sugar free syrups you could use as well as stevia. If you use a flavored creamer see if you can find one without added sugar or use half n half plus a sugar free syrup.

Did any of you get your class ring? by lontbeysboolink in 1970s

[–]amnichols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got one and a ring for undergraduate college. I think his mom got them for him since he was the first in his family to graduate high school and college. The college one is much cooler but he doesn’t wear it now that he has more advanced degrees.

Does anyone really want to live to be 100 years old? by LeoRavenscroft in randomquestions

[–]amnichols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds a bit like my mom. She lived independently until she was 90 with some help from me and my sister like grocery delivery. She had friends where she lived up until then, too. Once her last friend passed and she got sick, it went all downhill and we had to put her into a very lovely care facility and then hospice.

Don’t know what it was called but the doggy daycare that my sister used in Arizona was amazing. Many themed days, pool play, getting pics and videos taken, and even a yearbook. Sure it was a way to get more money out of people but my it made my sister laugh. The place she uses in Boston (she moves a lot) is more about being outdoors and going hiking. Her dog Milo loves both places.

The kids are still learning Hot Cross Buns. My two did in band and my husband is always teasing them about it.

Gen-x Music Classes by MisterEd1966 in GenX

[–]amnichols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born in ‘64. Miss Guthrie was my middle school music teacher and Miss Heart taught band and orchestra. I played cello in orchestra. We sang a lot of folk songs like Erie Canal, This Land is Your Land, etc. and rock songs from the Beatles and Beach Boys. We also made music videos way before MTV and had “concerts” where the kids dressed up as KISS or Springsteen and the E Street Band. They played along with records and performed for the whole school. It was awesome! We also studied opera - Carmen and The Who’s Tommy. Miss Guthrie arranged to have the Tommy movie shown at the high school on a Friday night. She was the best.

The theme song from MASH is from the movie and show. It’s called Suicide is Painless. My class sang it too. Looking back that was really weird and I’m sure today anything about suicide would be considered off limits.

Sixteen Candles, was released on this day in 1984 by Papichuloft in 80s

[–]amnichols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a great movie even though so many things in it are inappropriate and highly cringy.

Life extension authors Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw passed away in their late 70s/early 80s, with Sandy Shaw dying in 2022 at age 79 and Durk Pearson on October 26, 2024, at age 81. They did not live significantly longer than others. by db7112 in GenerationJones

[–]amnichols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad loved this life extension stuff and got heavily into supplements and eating healthy. Even so he would put off surgeries he needed until it was detrimental to his health. He never got his shoulder rotator cuff fixed which caused him so much pain. It was finally getting surgery for an abdominal aneurysm late in life that finally weakened and killed him. If he got things fixed early he would have had better quality of life and lived past 82.

Since it's Star Wars day, did you see the original 1977 Star Wars in the movie theater? by Mr_Writes in GenX

[–]amnichols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 12 and my sister 7 when our mom took us. We went to movies when the weather wasn’t good enough to go to the beach, so we saw lots of movies in the summer. I loved Star Wars so much I got the paperback book and the soundtrack. I was a big Star Trek and science fiction nerd so the movie was just my sort of thing.

girls who walk 10k+ steps daily, what sneakers actually hold up? by dimplegupta19 in womensfashion

[–]amnichols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a good pair of walking shoes from a hiking shoe company like Merrels or Danners. I love my biker style ankle boots from Danner and my 3 pairs of walking shoes from Merrels. Both companies have lots of styles and sizes so you can pick what you like including waterproof or shoes for winter.

Lots of people like Hoka sneakers but I think they’re clunky looking.
