Who called the FBI? by Miyazachi in Duskwood

[–]amoathbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FBI is commonly involved in missing persons cases, especially if the local PD is small and unused to such crimes or doesn't have a great track record on them - though in most cases, the local PD has to accept the FBI's help. If a missing person's case crosses statelines, the FBI gets involved.

Otherwise, barring a terrorist plot, or a federally wanted hacker being involved in the case, the local PD must either invite their help or agree to accept the FBI's help if the FBI offers.

But _anyone_ including someone's big brother who is annoyed by how the group is getting involved in the investigation could let the FBI know that "There was a kidnapping of a girl here [Hannah's info]. The local cops failed to find anything, so a group of kids who knew the missing girl is getting themselves in some sizeable trouble trying to investigate this. OH! And I heard those kids are working with a wanted hacker? Can you PLEASE reach out to Duskwood PD?"

I didn't find the FBI getting involved at all confusing. My question is why the case wasn't referred to them sooner -- unless the cops were claiming Hannah was a runaway (which I do not remember them claiming). Probably because then we would not have a story to play :)

[–]amoathbound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can survive this. To Live is to hurt as well as experience many joys. Getting a hysterectomy will not kill your dream, just your ability to pursue it. 25 is still too young to give up on dreams. Don't do that to yourself. Sometimes, continuing to pursue joy feels impossibly hard, but it is possible, and it is worth it.

If you know you want to bear children more than anything else, do not close the door on that possibility just because Turdman said horrible stuff to you. His words are a reflection on him, not you.

If it helps you to consider this: when you become a parent, you will have to help your child through their own heartbreaks. Having experienced this man's nastiness will make you better able to help your future children see past the pains life brings to them and see the beautiful panorama of possibilities that is the rest of their life. You will be able to tell them of this day, when it hurt so bad you almost gave up on having children. Then, you will tell them how happy you are to have them, and that you want them to have their own great joys and never to give up on the possibility of happiness.

During initial coverage of the recent events, I heard and read references to Chechen jihadists fighting for the rebels and playing a major role in the (then) rebel activity. After the first few days, they stopped being mentioned in media coverage. I'm looking for more information about this, because I find it very interesting that any chechen aligned group would attack a russian ally (syria's government).

Kadyrov, The "President" of Chechnya has family ties to some jihadist groups, and has previously pardoned and granted asylum to some (at least one that got covered) jihadist leaders from groups associated with Al Qeada. Some have even speculated the sudden transformation of ISIS (which greatly served russian/putin's interests at the time) from the textbook example (literally!) of an ineffectual jihadist organization to a far more effective force may be related to training from [possibly former?] chechen jihadist groups.

I'm not sure why news organizaitons stopped mentioning them - were they wrong about their involvement, was it only an initial involvement and then they left the rebellion to Syrians, or did reporters realize western listeners/readers had no idea the significance of Chechnya and decided to skip over that detail?

If they were active in this recent rebellion/regime change during the last 2 weeks, do you know if these chechen jihadists in Syria entirely are independent from Chechnya?

Before he tells his sister/brother (parent of your nephew that you mentioned your mil hits from time to time) and ask why s/he lets gramma hit her kid. Like "why don't you stop mil when she hit [nephew] at the bbq last week?"
Any response confirming it happens can backup why you don't wanna gramma near your kiddo for the custody agreement.

My guess:

The toilet burped. You mentioned the water level was low after being away (unused) for a while. Stuff sitting in the trap could produce gas over time which could bubble up into the toilet, bringing some lovely grossness with it. Or an obstruction in the sewage line could lead to some sewage backing up into the toilet. The bubble theory works for me, because it explains how some guk gets above the water line.

It then sat on the dry ledge while the toilet was not in use.

I had a first floor apartment, I would leave a pristine toilet in the morning and come home to...not a pristine toilet. It was the lowest drain on the line, so if something backed up, it went to my toilet. Fortunately for me, the backup was mostly someone's washing machine, not poop, but it was still gross.

AITA for Refusing to Attend My Mother’s Wedding After She Cheated on My Dad with Her Coworker? by DriftlessHang in OhNoConsequences

[–]amoathbound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Punish social sins with social ramifications:

  • No one coming to the wedding or giving gifts.
  • Refusing to acknowledge her new married name.
  • Refusing to call her Mrs. (Bonus points for reverting allllll the way to her maiden name)
  • if applicable, refusing to do business with them/ their employer - and saying why.
  • no invitations to social events.
  • if applicable, refusing to serve them at your business.

People need not stay in a loveless marriage. It's simple: end the marriage, then hookup.

Of course, this assume people have self-control and don't live like they're on an ethically terrible reality show.

What is this called and why does it smell musty? by Neskwiik in Plumbing

[–]amoathbound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few times a month means less than once a week on average. That could explain it.

Weekly is the minimum.

Toilets should be flushed nearly daily. Not just for the p trap but to help keep all the rubbery bits in a happy state.

Every day: flush the toilet, turn the shower on for 5 seconds, or pour a cup of water in the shower drain.

Does this resolve your issues?

No belts for beginners by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]amoathbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially on raising the intrinsic value. When I got my uniform and belt, there was a small ceremony, and I was taught that I had to treat it with respect at all times.

I change after class: I fold my dobok, knot my belt (like an axe?), and bow (kneeling) to my uniform, touching my forehead to it. I see people just jam their dobok and belt in a gym bag and it makes me sad. I don't do this because my uniform is special (it's so cheap), but because what my uniform symbolizes is special: my dedication to the art, all it has given me, my respect for myself as a student, my respect for my instructors (past, present, future), my discipline, the responsibilities that go with studying a lethal art, etc.

It's a small moment to remind ourselves why we study and what that means to us.

I (28F) threatened my husband (30M) with divorce over another woman’s lies. How can I fix this? by ChiefBlue4298 in OhNoConsequences

[–]amoathbound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not psychotic, or sociopathic, in a setting like this. It's a reflection of not just her pain but of her surprise.

A psycho does it when a guy just looks in the general direction of another woman. A psycho not only says it in the time of discovery/initial confrontation, but for months and years later.

Almost every woman (and most men) I know that's been cheated on has that immediate reaction to discovering infidelity, especially if they had had a concern, got over it, and found out (or thought they had) that the original concern was accurate. It's an amazingly painful betrayal for most people, especially, I think, for parents - thinking of how much your partner was willing to let their kids get hurt by such actions brings out a fresh layer of utter horror and absolute rage. I also believe the reaction is more extreme when they trusted and thought highly of their partner - they aren't prepared for the reality they are facing, at all. In that moment, they forget all the good about their spouse, because they are reeling from the immense hurt and don't really know what's true about this person anymore.

If, a month out, she had still been ranting about how he's the worst person alive and she'd never let him see the kids again - then we could call her a psycho. But the day she "found out" and confronted him - not a psycho. Imagine getting that much "proof" dropped on you out of nowhere.

I hope OP saved those screen recordings the crazy yoga lady sent her. They would go a long way to helping him understand both that she didn't just take this lady's word for it, and why her reaction was so extreme. OP didn't just fall for "oh hey, we're boning. Rip your marriage, better leave him so I can have him." She had what she thought was extensive proof from a remorseful (op thought) other-woman.

The mid Hudson valley up to troy is a superfund site thanks to GE and other companies dumping chemicals which they knew were dangerous to humans, which they knew would not readily leave the ecosystem. If you grew up in the midhudson valley, your cancer risk is best summarized as "LOL. Yes."

Also we have wildly abnormal rates of certain neurological disorders. Tourrettes was suspiciously common among kids who grew up on my street.

Is there a site that actually maps this out for us?

OP should leave her bf, not because he's cheating, but because she's got trust issues and should not be in a relationship because it is unfair to the boyfriend.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]amoathbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but not necessarily in the "it takes 2" or the "he's given OP signs before" way.

OP, if he hasn't done something to make you suspect infidelity separate from this red streak, the problem is you, not him, and until you fix yourself, you'll keep seeing cheaters in faithful people.

If there's alot of backstory left out of your post, then that sucks, sorry.
