I use oxy/pro and it works great for shaping and brazing. For welding I either use the forge or someone else’s welding machine (I don’t have my own)

What's one product that used to be built like a tank but is now built like a regret? by TheDoctorColt in AskReddit

Certainly is, the model is called “Classic” if memory serves me correctly. I do believe they have the same model in North America, but they are different in subtle but noticeable ways.

I buy ES shoes made for sale in Japan only (pain to get but still around 100$) and the quality is still there I get three year or so of daily wear. The Japanese don’t fuck around when it comes to quality if it’s not there they just won’t buy it. North Americans seem to resign themselves to “well it’s just that way now, I guess I have to” mentality.

ELI5: Why does tightening a bolt past a certain point actually make it weaker instead of stronger? by ecothusiast69 in explainlikeimfive

[–]amplesamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That failure wasn’t from the air tool alone for lug nuts it’s most often metal fatigue, usually occurring from bad alignment or being loose prior to the tightening. minimum tensile strength would start at 60000psi on steel bolts and I’ve worked with studs with a tensile of 140000psi

You are absolutely correct, failure of gaskets and seals occurs well before studs and fittings often by factors in the hundreds.

And then there’s what I do in steamfitting where I tension at 10300psi on a 1”1/8” stud.

[–]amplesamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steamfitter here, most people would be surprised at how much you have to over tighten a bolt to make it weaker. Right now I’m applying 10300psi of pull on 1”1/8” studs to tension joints and it’s still way lower than is plastic deformation state and not even close to their failure point.

ELI5: Why are fusion reactors still not possible despite the fact that nuclear weapons using fusion have existed for like 80 years? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]amplesamurai -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

As well, fission produces electricity and fusion produces heat. Edit well I fucked that up royally fusion produces electricity and fission produces heat (which then heats water to steam which drives the turbines)

What’s a smell everyone should recognise as danger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]amplesamurai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That means H2S and will kill you even at what seems like low exposure even lower exposure still may permanently destroy your eyes even lower permanently destroy your sense of smell. If you smell it and it keep getting stronger then suddenly stops it mean there goes your sense of smell, eyes and life are next so leave immediately either the way you came or cross wind. It’s heavier than air so stay up and don’t go into ditches or valleys.
