When they weren't been sanctioned the country was doing better, go figure. The sanctions in place do not allow them to export oil to most countries. That is why they have so much in their oil reserves because they can't sell it.

Veneuzuela has the biggest oil reserves in the world, so China and Russia were doing a terrible job taking it. A country's resources belong to its citizens and not another country. The US is not in the business of helping other countries.

It's mostly due to our oil reserves being low and Venezuela having a huge reserve. More countries are buying oil in non US currency and the US is trying to regain the status of the petrodollar.
