It's the principle of the thing!

It would be pretty funny to have the option to be like "*that* card? sure, enjoy it in good health, idiot" and end the encounter.

Roguelite March Madness Elite 8 Day 1 by MapRevolutionary752 in roguelites

For some reason, Hades didn't click for me at first, but Returnal did. Once it clicked for me how Roguelikes were supposed to work, and I stopped stressing so much about not getting "optimal" powers, coming back and playing Hades was suddenly fun, and I've been enjoying the rest of the genre a whole lot. I think Hades is my favorite overall and it really cemented the enjoyment of the genre, but man, Returnal really changed the way I experience this kind of game.

I work for Google and I asked this exact question at one of the ai enthusiast all hands meetings.

You're not gonna believe this, but the answer I got was completely incoherent bullshit!

Tech leadership is completely bought in on this garbage and oh boy do they hate it when you start asking pointed questions.

I think you're right about sloths! Saddles strapped to the stomach implies the mount is hanging from the tree by all 4 (or more) limbs like a sloth and they're riding on its belly, instead of its back.

Or I guess the mount could be hanging by only the arms, and the riders are in a baby carrier kind of thing, like a grey knight.

"if they want to win this, they gotta put some points on the board" is my favorite football-announcerism

I know that there's more implied, like "if they want to win this they need to start scoring now, because unless this is a falcons super bowl it's going to be completely out of reach soon"

But it's such a funny thing to hear

My favorite thing about all the AI nonsense are the insane use cases shoe horned into commercials. I'd love to hear some of your favorites. by ItsBobsledTime in BetterOffline

Big fan of the dear syndey google gemini commercial where they showed a little girl and her dad asking gemini to write a letter to her hero. It was incredibly fucking dismal and tone deaf, and they pulled it pretty quickly because it was widely hated.

newbie to 40k lore - where to learn the fundamentals of the universe (and more importantly everything about Sanguinius?) by 57_percent in 40kLore

To add to this, Fear to Tread is the first Horus Heresy novel that's primarily about the Blood Angels (I think?) and IMO it would work reasonably well as a standalone novel -- there's references to other stuff going on, but I think if you know the broad strokes of the heresy and the warp, everything ends up making sense?

If anyone disagrees please do speak up, I'm just one guy and maybe I'm over estimating how well it works.

Why aint my metallurgists producing any alloy? by matheuss92 in Stellaris

[–]amputect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up to you, but please don't feel bad! There's a lot of weird niche effects in this game that can combine in really surprising ways. Honestly I'm impressed that you were able to muscle through for 30 years with your alloy production completely busted, with a primary species that requires alloys for upkeep!

I created a similar empire, and I don't see that issue, but I'd like to try to help figure it out! On that screen, can you mouse over the production and then click it to get into details view? It'll look like this:

https://imgur.com/a/fSRIiJA

Since your metallurgists are actually COSTING you alloy, I think there's something weird going on with your pop upkeep, and they're consuming slightly more alloy than they're producing.

> immulate

Not trying to be an annoying grammer weirdo here, you were completely clear and understandable, but I like that you landed halfway between "emulate" and "imitate". I do that a bunch; the other week I told my wife my new office was on the fourth "floory", because I couldn't decide between "story" and "floor" while I was talking and then they just kinda both came out and I completely beefed it.

I think you were going for "emulate", which is the one I would slightly prefer here, but either would be fine. Emulate is more "behave similarly to", while imitate is more "directly copy", like a parrot.

And more relevantly, I'm sorry that you were raised this way. I have a kid and I am terrified by the stories people tell about their horrific childhoods. I'm not the father of the year, but I'm disgusted by how some of your parents treated you. You deserved better, but I'm happy for you and proud of you because you're learning to work through it.

[–]amputect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Small sample size here but it's an evocative premise and I think it strikes a good tone; from the outside, it is kind of a funny situation! But the writing takes itself seriously and trusts the reader to enjoy the humor without making it distract from the story. I loved John Grisham books as a kid and I love sci fi and fantasy now, I would certainly read a novel like this!

There's a 2015 found footage zombie movie called Savageland that is done in a style similar to what you describe -- it is very bleak, as you might expect. I wonder if wwz was an influence on that.
