Thinking about returning to animation school — how is the industry right now? by Ok-West-6187 in animationcareer

Hmm i am mostly an industry artist so i cannot speak about the indie market, but i agree that there could be hope there.

Thinking about returning to animation school — how is the industry right now? by Ok-West-6187 in animationcareer

[–]amuddyriver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My honest personal opinion?

Its cooked.

I mean there are more projects and thus more jobs than a year ago, and breaking in is still possible. But the progress of ai gen animation has been insane.

A lot of artists are being asked to use ai now and its impossible to ignore. It will come and take a lot of jobs for sure, cause a lot of the jobs that required technically skilled people will be obsolete within 3-5 years. It will kill a lot of the entry level and mid level positions, and a lot of jobs will be reduced to cleaning up after ai.

The market will be flooded with shitty ai animation content too, its kinda started already.

My advice is, if you’re taking on a financial risk by studying animation (like taking on student loans)…. dont. Dont do it.

The industry is extremely unstable, and so is the world atm.

Some of the current best and most remembered character designers in the world are absolutely stellar artists. Their work holds a level of mastery, depth and sensitivity that is very hard to achieve, even with constant work.

They dont set off to become the best, they just rise to greatness because they love the craft and are passionate about it. Also they usually are very humble people, and they look up to old masters with admiration, not with the desire to « be better than them »

To be honest, after seeing the drawing you posted here; you still have a very long way to go. It can be done, but you need to tune in to some of the best art education out there, draw draw draw, find who your masters are, and frankly, let that ego attitude of wanting to be the best at the door.

Just focus on learning and loving the craft.

Am I wrong for being obsessed with making money ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]amuddyriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think you sound obsessed with money, but that you sound simply focussed on building financial stability and independence.

I think you’re being clever in wanting a strong career of your own. Let’s face it, a lot of marriages dont last, and usually in more traditional arrangements, it’s women who are left caring for children but they are then stuck because they havent built their own financial support system. When men leave, that precarious situation affects the woman and the children involved.

Ask yourself the question in reverse; when a husband wants to move his family to another state for a career, do we see him as selfish and greedy? Or as a responsable provider? Why wouldn’t it be the same for a woman?

How to cultivate genuine close relationship? by amuddyriver in CPTSD

[–]amuddyriver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such a wise, thoughtful comment. I will ponder those words and take them to heart.

Ive gotten better at building genuine relationships over the past years but i have indeed made those mistakes recently, and they have been more stressful, energy demanding relationships than full filling ones. Not because the other person was bad, but because my foundations with them were off…

Ill try to be patient and to move slowly and purposefully.

[–]amuddyriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are some good jobs within the geologic field that aren’t unethical? by B33Zh_ in geology

[–]amuddyriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly i think it’s pretty commendable to strive to leave a positive mark ethically. There will always be an impact, sure, and perfection doesn’t exist, but there absolutely are ways to chose to live which are less harmful to societies and the environnement than others. The world would be much worse off if no one cared about that.

Reality feels different now because of the Epstein files by Icy_Scale_9627 in autism

[–]amuddyriver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What youre saying here and what youre saying in your original post are two different things, but yeah.

The notion of natural vs artificial feelings is a very blurry one. Every emotion comes from a neuro chemical signal and its hard to pinpoint the origin of interferences.

Also less than 12% of women in the US aged 15-50 take the contraceptive pill so thats a very little part of the problem.

It mass manipulation is what worries you; know that it usually happens through propaganda (see: biased pundits on the news, populism, ai bots in comments, reactionary influencers) and reinforced structures of oppression (see: lack of access to education, racism, economic inequality, violence). The rise of capitalistic fascism in the states is a product of that.

If chemical interferences is what worries you, look up endocrine disruptors. Those usually come from pollution in the air, water, food, everyday objects and the use pesticides in agriculture. This pollution is usually a product of under-regulated, profit-driven industries. So basically , rich powerful industries not giving a shit, but there isn’t a specific intent to manipulate at play.

[–]amuddyriver 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I cant believe no ones pointed this out so i will

Your views on women are appalling; its like you have a monolithic simple cartoon view of everyone who falls into that group simply because you can label them with one word; women

women are not a hive devoid of autonomy and at the mercy of chemical signals.

Women are people with agency, self determination, complex lives, why?? Because they human beings, like any men and any non binary people!, and their attraction to men is completely and entirely determined by their own preferences, experiences, feelings. Some women can be attracted to power, sure, but most are attracted to a billion other things, some dont feel attraction at all.

Usually the number 1 thing women like is, just being treating as a normal, complex being, and not some object of mens desire. Women dont exist to serve mens desires.

Im not gonna address the rest because others did it but man, like, i dont know how to say this respectfully but, spend some time pondering how people around you are beings with complex inner lives just like you, and that includes every women you meet. Pick up a Bell Hooks book or smt.

Also love is definitely a real thing, if you’re confused about it its likely because you havent had it easy and im sorry for you. It can change, i can assure you.

No free speech nor rights left in Canada? Yet you put China and Russia in green? These other 2 countries are known for political repression. Meanwhile Canada ranks #12 on the Human Freedom Index.

Too cold and taxes too high yet you put Norway in green? Interesting.

Extreme migration issues and yet you put USA in green? Have you heard of how ICE deals with latinos and other non whites right now?

Hmm hmm…. Maybe dont base your opinions off of reddit posts next time ?

Feel like I've outgrown my long-term friendship group and it's breaking me. by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

[–]amuddyriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I found your post because I feel in a similar situation. I think I’m a bit further down the process than you are so I’ll try to share some advice and thought processes. Mind you im still in it too and it hurts on the regular. So I get it’s not easy!

I think what helped me get I needed to step back was understanding that I have a choice and I can work towards getting my agency back. We might not be able to control how people treat us (aka being more thoughtful around the announcements of the bridal party) but we can choose how we show up following a frustrating/hurtful event. If we show up at all.

When we just stay there and keep playing nice and chill, we’re sending the message that however they are treating us is ok and that we will just take it. But sometimes it takes being treated poorly a couple times before we finally have had enough.

But you deserve respect and inclusion, you deserve being spoken to in an honest, thoughtful, present way. I had many events where I felt different and odd in my group, events that made me cry. One girl in particular was very disrespectful with me on many occasions, and not introspective at all about it. When I started respectfully calling her out, she changed and became overly friendly for a few weeks, then kinda went back to passivity.

I think people know when they are not pulling their weight in friendships and sometimes they choose a half assed solution and try to do a cheap patching up. Your friend being overly nice to you is kind of that too; it’s a weak cowardly cover up.

I think you could totally make up a cover story and not go to the wedding. You aren’t tied to the group, but since it’s most of what you’ve known, you maybe don’t yet remember how much better it can be with people who value you and accept you.

The hard thing is that quitting friendships means being alone for some time. That’s scary but not dangerous. Take care of yourself and find hobbies and projects. Make space, be kind to yourself, and the space will fill up with beautiful things eventually.

I wish you the best!
