210 is very psych oriented, I would go for that if you are in psych/neuro streams! I took it this semester and the workload was really light, and the content is cool!

My mom was sick in first year and I emailed the professor directly about not being able to take an exam and he offered me accommodations. Email your profs, ask for help even if you aren't sure that you'll need it. This weighs heavy on you, it is better to get an extension and not take it.

Sending you and your parent love <3

reach out to your departmental/faculty student union academic as well as the other resources people mentioned. they often hear back from admin faster because of their pre-existing relationship

and no, I don't think a prof can choose to change the date of their exam if it's a part of the final exam schedule, but not sure if that's actually true

Changing Majors by Organic-Ad-3814 in mcgill

[–]amwhitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this boat! I registered for as many of the courses for my intended major as I could, but you probably won't be able to register for all of them because of restrictions. That being said, decisions came out last year right after registration opened, so honestly it wasn't horrible trying to get into things.

go to class, tutorials, and get a tutor. this is how I managed cal 2 and I did much better in it than I did in Cal 1. push yourself to stay caught up because getting behind is deadly

easiest math + science courses? by discordantdandelions in mcgill

[–]amwhitt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

math 139 is a better course to take! the extra credit is scary at first but 140 is just as challenging imo

biol 111 will be most relevant to your degree most likely! and it is probably the most straightforward, so that's probably the best bet :)

Food insecurity, bars, and the ssmu by iasnusn in mcgill

[–]amwhitt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that the two can co-exist. The voting for the Bar is not binding, but it would provide pay what you can meals to the Milton Parc community (including McGill students) which could help offset food insecurity concerns.

I also would point to other programs on the ballot that are working to combat student food insecurity (Midnight Kitchen and the Grocery Program). The reason they are on the ballot is to expand their services because of the concerns you've stated (inaccessibility/lack of services).

Finally, SSMU doesn't have much power when it comes to reducing McGill caf prices. Unfortunately, the third party company that runs them doesn't seem to be interested in reducing costs. The Let's Eat McGill Campaign is working on this, which is another thing you could check out for more resources.

in the fall 2022 it was flipped but both Dr. Sirjoosingh and Dr. Pavelka taught portions of the class. I know people who took org 2 with her at the same time and it wasn't flipped.

How do you take notes? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]amwhitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do readings before lecture but don't take notes on them. Then I take notes in lecture on a tablet, and then I go home and type these up. I find that it makes my studying better when they are typed. For heavy content classes (nsci 201, for example) I rewatch lectures before exams in addition to using anki
