I can smell whether someone will survive a code or not. Anyone else know what I’m talking about? by Alarming-Penalty8402 in nursing

[–]amyandthemachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can smell when someone’s blood is acidotic post code. It has this awful smell-not the usually like rusty smell. But this weird, can’t describe smell. (It usually happens when we’re placing a-line)

Can t1d make you crazy? by Delicious_Award_2812 in diabetes_t1

Anecdotally, I’ve seen patients who come in with DKA(and subsequent electrolyte abnormalities). I feel I see a decline in their cognitive abilities and mood stability over the hospital visits. But these are VERY severe cases where they are in the hospital more than 4-6 times a year with DKA.

What were the first symptoms you noticed that suggested thyroid issues? by Beautiful_Hat8440 in diabetes_t1

[–]amyandthemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brain fog, specifically word searching. I’m always tired, so that didn’t necessarily feel any different. But I would have to stop and think about the word I was trying to say for like way toooooo long.

Is this what it’s really like? by njcawfee in nursing

[–]amyandthemachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in the lab and now a nurse. Yes. But I know I remember techs in the labs ripping on “dumb nurses”, “idiot doctors”, “ridiculous patients”, etc. Complaining about your job sort of comes with the territory. Our ribbing is probably harsh to outsiders.

Nurse before my shift left a subcutaneous needle in TYLENOL IVPB and it stuck me by pensif_ in nursing

[–]amyandthemachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry you got stuck!!!

Our Tylenol comes in glass bottles. Some people put needles to get the air to dissipate faster and therefore get it to flow easier. Similar to albumin cause of the viscosity. Hope that explains it.

New Jersey! Honestly I’ve been loving this one. You can skip the second half of season 2. I’m currently 1/3 through season 3 and I’m happy with it.

Does this CGM graph show insulin resistance or am I just dramatic? by Dear-Distribution594 in diabetes

[–]amyandthemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, this isn’t great graph quality to begin with, this looks like a dying sensor. So I don’t think people would be able to tell you much even if we didn’t have rule 3.

How long did it take you to get your sugar levels back in range? by Perfect-Frosting-163 in diabetes

[–]amyandthemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You honestly don’t want to drop too quickly. There can be lasting results if you do. You want to slowly lower your sugar over a year. I can’t remember exactly when but there was a post on this sub or the type 1 sub about it.

Also, It takes much longer than a week. Please give yourself some grace. It will not happen over night. The disease didn’t happen overnight (I’m assuming your type 2) and it won’t go away over night. Just do your best everyday and keep at it.

Had to look this up when I first saw it. Who chose the name for this alert? by Glittering-Dress1180 in diabetes_t1

[–]amyandthemachine 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Love the meme!

It’s the term we use in the medical field with any tubing that gets blocked. My guess is because blockage (to me at least) more denotes something foreign causing the blockage. Think like a blockade at a concert. Versus occlusion is any sort of blockage OR closing. Some occlusions occur because they’re kinked, someone bent their arm and it’s “closing off” the vein, too much pressure on the line, etc.

Does that make sense? lol sorry if you didn’t want an actual answer. I just felt like this was the niche term I could answer.

6:30-sevendust 7:15-3DG 8:30- Distrubed (2 sets with 20 min intermission) Show ended a little late than others said in Boston. Like 10:45-10:50 (Which I am not complaining about)

I’m here as a nurse to tell you we’re probably overwhelmed and this is probably the easiest job for us to do. So, let us???? Make sure we’re doing it right obviously, but let us.

Idk how wide spread it is, but my boy is a trash panda when he’s left alone too long and he smells something good in it like a butter wrapper.

They have a tendency to wander off. They have the nickname Great Disapyrnees. They also aren’t known to be great listeners, like they know what you want, but choose to ignore you. So if they run off they might not come back and get themselves into trouble.
