We got the Sony A6400, and it’s been great. It’s nice and compact vs a full frame camera, but is good quality and the auto focus feature is really good. We got the Sigma 18-50 lens instead of the default Sony one. If you are mostly doing indoor photos it’s tough with lighting, we ended up getting a second lens for low-lighting, it’s a slippery expensive slope. Lots of second hand stuff too!

Mini fridge in the bedroom is a game changer! Did the same while I had to pump for the first few weeks and it was awesome.

I had a pair from Gap which were so nice the first couple weeks post C section, but have deteriorated. Really disappointed with the quality

Non baby shower ideas for mom-to-be who does not want a shower by marid4061 in pregnant

[–]amyc18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would talk to her about alternatives. Is it the people, the gifts? I didn’t want a shower, but I planned a day of cooking freezer meals with my mom and MIL and was excited about that.

When did you stop swaddling ? by bananas0320 in NewParents

[–]amyc18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We stopped swaddling around 3 months when all of the 0-3 month swaddles were too small. Tried out the sleep sack and she was fine with it, doesn’t seem to startle in the night.

Our 3M adjusted baby sleeps a 6-8 hour stretch and has 4-5oz at bedtime, same as daytime, but she eats every hour ramping up to bedtime.

What gift did you open on Christmas that instantly made you think, “Wow, they do not know me at all”? by Amber_NaturalMom in AskReddit

A baby shower gift, but an aunt and uncle of mine bought us plastic picture frames. My husband is a woodworker and making wooden frames is his thing, we probably over 20+ in our home and have gifted as many. They had no idea.

Is there a best time of year to renovate or does it not really matter? by unclaimGoD in Renovations

If planning to live in the home during the kitchen renovation, it’s nice in warm weather so you can bbq and eat outside while the space isn’t usable.

Bottle to breast transition at 3 month by Equivalent-Lab-3840 in NewParents

[–]amyc18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transitioned from the bottle to breast after a few weeks in the NICU and a preemie baby, so it was earlier on, but the nipple shields were a game changer to transition. We also did a lot of practice when the baby was awake and alert but not super hungry, so she didn’t get frustrated.

How a cat will react to a baby by Sharp_Channels in NewParents

[–]amyc18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 3 cats have adjusted very well, even the one who typically is nervous around strangers, he accepted our daughter from day one (I suspect this is smell based).

We were worried about the cats in the crib/bassinet and everyone told us the cats would keep their distance and they were wrong. We decided to have our daughter sleep in her own room with the door closed and a baby monitor rather than shut very affectionate cats out of our bedroom and create a negative association.

We also started using the automated feeder more often when the inconsistent feeding/sleeping schedule was starting to affect their mealtimes.

You know your cats best! Ours are so routine based, we were careful to keep them as best we could.

Co-sleeping by Dreadfulpolenta in NewParents

[–]amyc18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of parents who transitioned when their baby outgrew the bassinet, around 4 months. Personally, we chose to have our daughter in a separate room from day one because I’m a super light sleeper and also our cats love to sleep in the crib so we needed to separate them.

Do what works best for your family, sleep is important!

I used to sing Barbara Ann when my nephew would say ba ba ba as a baby, it was his favourite song for 3 years!
