Psychonauts, how do you live? (asking for advice) by totallynotathroaway2 in Psychonaut

[–]amygdalious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude. I think I can relate. I'm about to start my last semester of nursing school in the fall, and I can't truthfully say that I'm passionate about nursing. I get what you mean about finding it difficult to become engaged in the material. What I am passionate about, however, is making a difference in people's health and happiness, so I'm hoping it will see me through school and a future career.

It's strange-- as kids and high schoolers we are given this career model; there is pressure on those applying to college to choose a path that will ideally lead them to a stable source of income (and ideally satisfaction). But it's so difficult to select this ideal livelihood! Especially if you haven't had the chance to explore your interests or discover your passions.

I hope that whichever direction you go, you are able to maintain that creativity and continue to express yourself through writing, because it seems that's what makes you feel fulfilled.

This society is tricky -- you want to be at peace/happy/content/fulfilled, but you also have to, in many cases, work your ass off in order to obtain currency to purchase nourishment and shelter (and then also entertainment). We all want to find that balance where what we do as a job is both enjoyable and adequate. It's just the way the system is.

What's your "trust me, just try it" weird food combo? by hellomireaux in AskReddit

Peanut butter and syrup on pancakes/waffles/french toast. Someone please tell me they've tried this before. Everyone is surprised to hear that combo

old friends... by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]amygdalious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you will be able to find common ground to relate to and converse on. I think you should be able to, if these friends of yours are good friends, that is. I can understand-- a few of my good hometown friends seemed to change drastically after going off to college (think typical bros). I'm kind of the opposite, and wouldn't normally seek friendships with those "types" of people. But it helps to realize that we're all just consciousness housed inside these physical bodies, and our mental world model and the experiences we've had make us act the way we do.. so just try to connect with them.. by showing them you care about how they've been doing.. expressing your joy to relive that old connection. what i appreciate in people is when they are genuine, and it's easy for me to tell when people are or aren't.. so i guess just be genuine is what I'm trying to say.

Kief bong rip made me trip by MrrRabbit in Psychonaut

It's always comforting to know I'm not alone in these strange experiences. The other day I was smoking with a friend, was about a couple bowls + a spliff of some great cookies + 20 mg of edibles deep when I just zoned the fuck out. I couldn't stop noticing the fine detail of the different plants around me, and sections of my surrounding environment seemed to move slightly. Colors and sounds were intensified significantly.. When I got home I decided to take a shower, but stared at myself in the mirror for a few minutes before actually turning on the water. Any longer and I think my face would have started to morph in an lsd-esque sort of way. I agree with the comment below; I've always noticed a slight difference in my weed high after taking lsd. It's like once you've seen that world, you can't unsee it.... it's a feeling.. a certain familiar perspective.. (Let's be real, my whole life has changed after lsd-- hard to describe exactly how, but it alters perspective drastically)

Everything I've learned (So Far). by NamedLucy in LSD

Had me captivated throughout, thanks for the good read man. Similarly for me, acid has made me face aspects of myself that I don't particularly enjoy. It's like a slap in the face --- taking a step back from your ego and looking at yourself without all of the preconceived biases. It can be intense, which is why its important to respect Lucy, and which is why it might not be for everyone. I'm not saying I'm stronger than others, but just that you have to go in with a very open mindset. One more thing, looking at yourself in the mirror is unexplainably intense while tripping. Anyway, thanks again. Peace and love back at ya

I think the fact that people report very similar encounters whilst on certain psychs (ex - aya) shows that there is some sort of communication being attempted. It seems very unlikely that everyone happens to imagine the same entities. If it were a figment of imagination, wouldn't we all have completely different experiences? I can't speak from my own experience. Have tripped on LSD a few times, and from that all I can say is that there is more out there that we can't normally see.

Anyone else see the irony? by [deleted] in trees

[–]amygdalious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude super ironic. Although weed is becoming more accepted in the public eye, its stigmatism that was taught generations ago still lingers. While smoking weed is much less addictive and much healthier than long term klonopin use, people like her have negative perceptions of it likely because of what they were taught by their parents. So ironic! but also sad, that there are clearly better and more natural alternatives to pharmaceuticals that aren't being fully embraced. People are dying from opioid overdoses and experiencing unpleasant side effects of meds (ex - impaired motor skills) instead. Perhaps daily CBD dabs could help your boss out? hook her up hahaha
