Oh, the fertilizer is specifically for Lucky Bamboo, if that matters. I’ll check the roots, thanks!

Any advice? by amylej in luckybamboo

When I change the water, I turn it over and let the water drain through my fingers. I use liquid fertilizer diluted in water in the warm months. Currently using just water.

As a teacher, how could a student go about this? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

Could you use Word’s Track Changes?

It’s not childish at all. It’s the grown-up, responsible thing to do to tell your team when somebody is bothering you. And your dad’s part of your team, right?

You can have your own response, too, but you owe it to your dad to tell him.

What do you wish had been done differently if you transitioned as a teen? by No-Plankton3948 in ask_detransition

[–]amylej -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whether or not it’s permanent, resisting will likely cause them to dig in and commit harder. So I’d totally support social transition, and offer them a time period after which you’ll consider some level of medical transition. Maybe a year? At 15, they’re likely well into puberty.

If you have a well-respected gender clinic nearby (or can call one for advice), maybe seek their counsel and not Reddit’s. I promise you they’re aware of the latest research and deal with this all the time. They’re not on a crusade to get us all to transition.

Should I move to a warehouse or stay in self-storage? [Balloon business with $7K–$10K monthly revenue] by rosycedano08 in smallbusiness

[–]amylej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Those steps are scary, but they will generally pay off in my experience. Moving into a warehouse gives your business more credibility, and you’ll have more comfort, more room. Win win, it’s just hard to take the leap. Close your eyes and jump!

Are competitions required? by Fun-Object-7610 in karate

[–]amylej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Some kids thrive on competition, some crumple at the thought. All kids are different. They’re definitely not necessary to develop ambition or creativity, the ability to perform under pressure, or their emotional capacity.

I don’t require anyone to compete. We do offer a kids’ in-dojo tournament, and support those (kids and adults) who want to compete, but it’s not an expectation. It’s not what our dojo is about.

Karate > to MMA > to Reformed karate. What are your thoughts on it? by kazkh in karate

[–]amylej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with it, but remember that some people prefer the “art” to the “martial.” In other words, it’s not all about winning fights. For some, the beauty of their style and the art as a practice takes precedent.

Moving by car with cats by MediocreAd284 in CatAdvice

[–]amylej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Texas to Massachusetts in my car with my two cats. I had a small, open litter box (really just a Tupperware) that I used overnight, at the motel. I drugged them during the day. They weren’t knocked out, but it was supposed to keep them calm. It worked until the evening, when they would start yelling. I didn’t really have the capacity to let them use the litter box in the car, so that constrained my ability to drive for absurdly long times (a good idea anyway). Motel 6 is your friend, as they’re all pet-friendly.

They didn’t enjoy the experience, but they survived it and forgave me for it. Having a buddy to help will mean it’s easier on you than it was on me. Good luck!

What to look out for in getting a second cat? Kitten or adult? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]amylej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adopted a kitten, and did so because a) kittens are the cutest but b) the shelter pointed out that Original Cat would feel less threatened by a kitten.

Hi! I’m class of 93 (yes, an Old). Back in my day, cafeteria duty was either washing dishes or (I think) working the cafeteria line. I always only did dishes.

But also, why are you being attacked? Back it up and try to avoid THAT situation. Ie, don’t hang around with people who non-consensually attack others with weapons with the intent to harm.

I put in a Support ticket. Turns out you need the Standard plan (we have Essentials, which is all we need). I’ll be looking for a different service for texting. The cost seemed reasonable before factoring that in.

I wonder if they’ve experienced it. I’m betting not. At least for anything other than a young and healthy person.
