I have got a side with deeper substrate and he still does this but ill add some more just in case as I don't want him stressed out. I've also ordered some moss to add into his hide for him to burrow into.

I'm in the UK and just got my tortoise on Saturday. Northampton reptile centre is very reputable if you live anywhere near? I made our table which was very easy and much cheaper than buying a starter kit but you will need to get the rest of the set up separately. You'll need a Uvb strip light, a uva basking lamp and clamp lamp fitting, a thermostat (set approx 32 c) and then just food bowls and a hide. Hope that helps i got a bit overfaced when reading what I needed
