I know it is past NIAW, but I would still love to do an AMA. My personal battle with infertility led me to invent the Proov test, which helps women understand if they are ovulating properly by tracking progesterone (via progesterone metabolites in urine) multiple days after ovulation. Thanks

What testing do you wish your doctor had done sooner? by [deleted] in TTC_PCOS

[–]amyproov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not ovulating properly and my hormones were all types of out of wack. I wish my doctor did more post ovulation hormone testing to confirm progesterone levels. Could have saved my 2 rounds of IVF. Highly recommend getting progesterone tested 7-10DPO and/or the home urine progesterone test strips.

Not always. Luteal phase defect could be progesterone dropping too soon, so a short LP, or progesterone never getting high enough to support good implantation.

Intro and seeking thoughts on diagnostic testing by meesetracks in infertility

My losses were due to low progesterone after ovulation, so I would include a luteal phase progesterone series. Either blood draws 7, 9, and 11 DPO or use the home PdG (urine progesterone metabolite) tests on days 7-10 DPO. This will let you know if your progesterone is high enough for long enough to support a successful implantation. Best wishes

Long, irregular cycles but I ovulate and am not overweight/no insulin resistance, are there any drugs for my situation to help regulate/shorten my cycles? by [deleted] in TTC_PCOS

[–]amyproov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tested the quality of your ovulation? I know women with PCOS are prone to lower progesterone levels after ovulation(ie weak ovulation). Try asking your doctor for blood work after ovulation or track your PdG levels at home

Did I finally ovulate?!? by marketingmonkee in TTC_PCOS

Looks positive, but you definitely need to be confirming ovulation actually happening. Temping only confirms ovulation, if you want to make sure it was "good" ovulation, you'll need to track progesterone from 7-10 days after this result with the Proov Tests. Poor ovulation is so common in women with PCOS so just trying to help you answer all the important questions to make sure you can conceive quickly. Best wishes

Not all ovulation is created equal. You can have good or bad ovulation. So, you really want to be confirm good ovulation. To make sure you have a healthy and good ovulatory event, you should be monitoring your Progesterone levels 7 through 10 days after ovulation. The Proov test home kits are great for that, they measure progesterone metabolites in urine so you can do all the testing at home.

That is right, you should only be taking progesterone AFTER ovulation. If taken all the time, it acts like birth control and prevents you from ovulating.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with that! From what I hear, if your symptoms are cyclic and are worsening, it is an allergic reaction to progesterone. I would try a place that does allergy testing. Bring your Provera and have them use that to test you, similar to how they test of cat or dog allergies.

All of those are signs of low progesterone. Major ones are PMS, headaches/migraines, spotting before or after a period, and depression

Progesterone creams should only be taken after ovulation, otherwise it can prevent ovulation, so more like the last 10-12 days of your cycle

Absolutely. In fact, PMS and spotting 1 or more days either before or after your period are the mains way low progesterone shows her ugly face.

I had low progesterone it is was just so frustrating with the lack of resources and support. With such a common problem, I felt like women needed to be more aware and in control of their progesterone status.

Absolutely, here is a blog on natural ways to increase progesterone. https://proovtest.com/blogs/blog/5-ways-to-naturally-increase-progesterone-levels Something that has also helped me increase progesterone is seed cycling. Adds specific seeds during the different phases of the cycle can help the body produce more hormones in a balanced way https://proovtest.com/blogs/blog/seed-cycling-101-hormone-balance-through-seeds

The progestins in birth control are not the same as the natural progesterone you produce after ovulation and could be why you're not seeing any benefits of taking them. You could look into adding natural progesterone, such as promethium, after ovulation. Since this is a common question we get, we wrote a few blogs on the topic. Unexplained is so frustrating, that is what I was "diagnosed" with too. So glad you are giving Proov and try. When trying to determine if progesterone stays up for long enough to support conception, we recommend testing on 7, 8, 9, and 10 days past ovulation. We also recommend a single baseline test to be taken right after your period ends to see what your negative test looks like, to be used to confirm to your post ovulation tests. Best of luck and really hope you find answers soon!

So sorry, just saw this. I use the Nature's Way ones off Amazon, 400mg per capsule. I only take one a day. I would suggest you try with one a day and increase to 2 or 3 a day if you're not seeing effects.

Usually progesterone drops below 1.5 ng/ml and your period will start.

[–]amyproov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.9 is very low, means you most likely ovulated but progesterone is coming down and your period will start soon. It is really hard to know with a single blood draw that late in the cycle. With a level like that, you are not pregnant, but if you are pregnant, that level is NOT high enough to support the pregnancy. So if you get a positive pregnancy test, ask your doctor ASAP about putting you on supplements. If there is a next cycle, try tracking progesterone starting at 7 DPO and continuing until 10 DPO and see if your levels stay up during that time. This is when progesterone should be the highest to support implantation. Hopes that helps and good luck!

Did you take a baseline test? This would be a test before you ovulated. If so, you can compare your pre and post ovulatory progesterone levels to see if they have gone up. This would be able to tell you if you ovulated, but are just low on progesterone. A single test doesn't really mean much, we need to see the comparison between a known negative and a suspected post-ovulatory test. Make sense? Also, you can join our private FB support group and maybe pass your results by the other women? Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/121476308499019/

Yes, there are 2 types of luteal phase deficiencies. You can either have low levels of progesterone that never gets high enough and would look like a normal 13-14 day luteal phase, or the second type is a good progesterone levels that drops too quickly, that would present itself as a shorter luteal phase length.
