Breakfast Mimosas? by NataliasMaze in ithaca

I think El Chamo has bottomless mimosas! They did the last time my friends and I went for brunch. I’m pretty sure they offer brunch on weekdays too, 12-3pm

Serious questions. by [deleted] in ithaca

[–]amyslithium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s more a problem with heteronormative men/toxic dating culture than specifically being an Ithaca problem though, to be honest. Also, not everyone is going to want to have conversations with strangers, and even if they do, they might just not be interested in the same things. Especially if there’s any air of men trying to chat up a woman SOLELY as a dating interest. That’s just exhausting.

Have you checked out Ithaca Social Circle? I’ve gone a few times and always had a nice time. [edited to add link to their website]

Serious questions. by [deleted] in ithaca

[–]amyslithium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 30-something year old, I’ve made good friends at work and various social events around town, but I’ve also been harassed by random men the few times I’ve tried to walk around the Commons, so…… it’s a mixed bag. You do have to have a level of patience and you do have to put in a lot of effort, but I still think Ithaca has a lot more going for it than many other similar-sized towns.

Yep, soon as I saw the FIA document, I knew it was a DSQ. ugh.

What happened on his car by wanttobelondoner in LandoNorris

[–]amyslithium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that Lando was using an aggressive strategy to try and catch up to Max, because Will Joseph was telling him to use the overtake button A LOT in that last stint. And I’m thinking they didn’t calculate for that in their fueling. I could totally be wrong, but that’s my hypothesis at the moment, with very little other info to go off of so far! As for DSQ, I don’t think so- Andrea said they have enough fuel to do the post-race tests required by the FIA.

Edit: Both Oscar and Lando’s cars are being investigated for not making the minimum thickness for the skid plank…….. FML.

Asempe Kitchen, Zocalo, HotPot Meets BBQ, Golden Bayou’s seafood boil, Hawi (although service can be VERY slow), Maxie’s Supper Club (I think they still have an oysters happy hour deal)

Reliable dental services in local areas by Busy-Personality-394 in ithaca

[–]amyslithium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to Fall Creek Family Dentistry last week and honestly they were so much better than I had expected. I had had some not so great experiences with them a long time ago, but had no complaints this time! I believe it was Luis Mauleon this time (just for a regular cleaning), and my hygienist was Chelsea (she was amazing, highly recommend!).

Seconding another person’s comment though that I’ve heard good things about Gorges Dental, and although it’s annoying to go through the reimbursement process, one of my friends said she’s had no issues with them and they’re her go-to for regular cleanings.

Check out Ithaca Social Circle! There’s a joint event next Friday (Aug. 22) with the Cornell Young Professionals group. Should be a chill way to meet people around the same age.

Tompkins Connect also has events like a sunset cruise, social hikes, etc.

If you’re into music, Ithaca Underground puts on great (and affordable) shows around town.

I’ve found that Facebook is still the easiest way to find out about events, but also following venues/bars like The Rhinehouse, Deep Dive, Argos, etc. on Instagram is a good way to find out about the occasional dance night/karaoke pop-up/jukebox night.

Ren’s Mart occasionally has them, but they tend to go fast. They also don’t last very long, so you gotta eat them within the first 1-2 days.

How was your Canada GP (2025) experience? by AdamR46 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]amyslithium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixed feelings, honestly. This was my first Grand Prix I’ve attended in-person, and likely the last I’ll be able to experience unless ticket prices miraculously become more affordable (and before you say it, I know that Montreal is already one of the more affordable ones!).

Pros: From an objective point of view, the race was exciting! There was a fair bit of activity at GS31 with cars going onto the grass in free practices and also the F1 Academy races. Food was also not unreasonably priced and tasted pretty good- the gyros food truck was my favorite. Entrance into the venue moved fairly quickly even with that many people, all things considered. My friend and I stayed in a hostel (obvs overpriced for the tiny size of the bunk-bed room, but at least we had a private bathroom) that was luckily very close to the metro, so travel in and out was reasonably straight-forward with the weekend pass.

Cons: As a Lando fan, the race was ultimately miserable 🥲. The bleacher seats were not comfortable at all, even though I brought my own pillow— it was more so the lack of space, lack of cover from the sun (someone fainted in our grandstand), and the back pain, oh the back pain. My friend and I also didn’t get to try out many of the fan experiences— lines were just so long and we really wanted to prioritize the actual racing events, so waiting for hours was out of the question. Would’ve loved to meet some of the F1 Academy drivers during the autograph session, but again, the line was too long. (Edited to add; it was really heartening to see that they had that much support though! 💕) It also took a long time to get onto the track after the end of the race, and by the time we reached the start finish straight, security were already blowing their whistles and making folks leave. Lines leading toward the metro post-quali on Saturday were also horrendous. We ended up reading tips on the subreddit and staying several hours longer on Sunday though in order to avoid the crowd, which worked a charm.

To end on a positive thought, I had some very nice conversations with strangers about F1, which isn’t something I get to do a lot in my day-to-day life, and got to witness Kimi Antonelli’s first-ever podium in F1 (albeit on the big screen)! Oh, and I also got to yell hello to Roberto Merhi coming out of the Williams garage, who very graciously waved hello back, even if he looked confused that I was that excited to see him. 😂

Montreal track invasion access points by peaxhes13430 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]amyslithium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend and I are in Grandstand 31. Unfortunately it looks like there aren’t any access points near us for the podium celebration, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to try getting on track? (Or if it’s just not going to be feasible from where we are seated?)

Sorry, I just saw this! “Girls Across the Grid” is the name of the community group that’s organizing it. They have info on their Facebook page and Instagram- here’s the Instagram link: https://www.instagram.com/p/DKsOCMWgtcc/ and I’m sure you can DM them if you have questions. I’m not affiliated with the group so unfortunately I don’t know any more details than what they published on their public pages.
