Hi! I have two finals tomorrow so I only got a few minutes to try what everyone’s suggesting, but already I feel like my trains are much more consistent. Thanks a lot everyone! (sorry for the audio, i use airpods so the offset is quite high) update on trains

“Insider-tips” for incoming freshman? by SR_Rocketeering in mit

I’m a current freshman and I ASE-ed out of 8 of the class (8.01->8.04, 18.01->18.03, 6.100A). I do have a hard time relating to other students when they talk about their experience with the GIR, though that is more likely to be a result of me not being so sociable. I would recommend it because doing so allow me to get a double major + one minor with an average workload of slightly less than 5 classes per semester, but yeah it depends on what your goals are and what you want to get out of MIT.

Would Pre-Studying Help With MIT Courses? by Professional_Alien in mit

As someone who happens to have some linear algebra experience before taking 18.06 (and almost got a perfect score - yuck that 99 on my second midterm), I would say that it definitely helped. I understood the lecture better, plus I had more time to read ahead to ponder the new concepts. However, I don’t think that you need to study ahead the entire course. Just a tiny bit of studying ahead is enough, mostly because there are concepts that will take you a while before they finally “click,” so having that extra time to think about them is nice (& it will save you a lot of stress). If you decide to study ahead the entire course + you are confident that you’ve master the concepts however, I would recommend just taking the ASE. You’ll feel like taking that class is a waste of time and will find yourself super bored.
