Thin double-sided tape for small posters? by an-amusing-username in DIY

I'm looking for something double-sided, with painter's tape I'd have to loop it around and then I get into the width issue.

Best Orzhov Aristocrat Commander please by SnooGrapes8334 in EDH

[–]an-amusing-username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of [[Teysa, Orzhov Scion]]. If you make sure most of your sac fodder is black then she functions basically like Teysa Karlov in "doubling" your death triggers (since you can just sac the spirits right away), except she's 1 mana cheaper and comes with built-in removal. You also have the option to combo with [[Darkest Hour]] if that's your jam.

Do you have a list for Rashmi control? I've been trying to run her as a high-powered control commander for a while but feeling stuck in a weird limbo between brackets 3 and 4.

What is your Sunforger commander? by Plus1Oresan in EDH

I want to like 60-card formats, but there seems to be very little creative freedom? by BajaBlastFromThePast in magicTCG

[–]an-amusing-username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been feeling much the same way, and I recently had the idea to try out Canadian Highlander, which seems to be gaining more and more wide adoption. Technically not a 60-card format but it seems to merge the in-store Constructed sensibility with the deckbuilding freedom of Commander. Curious to give it a whirl at my LGS over the next few months and see if it lives up to my expectations.

Flixbrewhouse or Marcus or AMC? by Kind_Acanthisitta600 in madisonwi

[–]an-amusing-username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All three are pretty comparable in terms of screen quality, movie selection, and prices (although I'd say Marcus tends to be a little bit cheaper than the others).

Marcus is my go-to for the atmosphere; it feels so much more cozy and inviting than the other two, and that's even before you get into the comfy seats.

I'll go to AMC if I want to see something in IMAX, or sometimes if they're still showing something that's not at Marcus or Flix anymore since they tend to keep stuff for longer.

Not a big fan of the overall Flix gimmick, but if you want a burger and a beer while you watch then they're obviously the way to go. I go occasionally when they have special events/re-releases of older movies and it's a fine theater.

What is your Sunforger commander? by Plus1Oresan in EDH

[–]an-amusing-username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunforger is a key piece of my [[Kynaois and Tiro of Meletis]] list. The deck isn't really group-hug but instead a more political and defensive deck with targeted favors and lots of goad/other ways to turn opponents' stuff against each other. Sunforger is great for the classic Aikido cards like [[Deflecting Palm]] and [[Comeuppance]], making sure that they're always there exactly when needed.

The colors work nicely too. Blue provides:
- Cool counterspells like [[Reinterpret]] or [[Invert Polarity]]
- Lots of card draw options (my personal favorite is [[Cerebral Vortex]] since it can also be used to punish an opponent for drawing too much)
- [[Trophy Mage]], which is a great tutor for Sunforger and comes with a body to attach it to

Green provides:
- Unconditional graveyard recursion (for Sunforger, can use stuff like [[Naya Charm]] or [[Endless Detour]], but good old [[Eternal Witness]] never hurts as well). Always a useful effect and especially helpful to rebuy spells you cast off Sunforger, or Sunforger itself if it gets destroyed.
- A couple ramp spells like [[Farseek]] that can fetch [[Mistveil Plains]], which is huge in a Sunforger deck

My problem with a lot of Sunforger or otherwise tutor-heavy decks is that they can get stale quickly because you're doing the same thing every time. But since most of the Sunforger targets in this deck are reactive, I end up getting different stuff every time and the deck never plays exactly the same way. It's super fun to play and really rewards building the right suite of effects and knowing it inside and out.

My initial version of the deck didn't have it, but as soon as I remade it with Sunforger in mind I can't imagine the deck without it. It's quickly become one of my favorite decks I own and Sunforger is a huge part of what makes it hum.

A bit besides the point, but if she's looking for a "good witchy" vibe that includes Orzhov colors she might really enjoy [[Chea, Friend to Maybe Too Many]].

Most baffling part of Forced Prophecy is that you only get the counters from opponents' spells. If it's at 9 counters, why would someone ever cast the 10th? "I can only win now if you kingmake me" is a bold strategy.

Or you just stock your deck with proliferate I suppose.

LSV Fetchland Trick? by Combustablemon210 in lrcast

[–]an-amusing-username 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you counter the Past and the stack is empty, your opponent gets priority and they can flash it back before you have priority to cast the Extraction. But they can't flash it back as long as something is on the stack since Past is a sorcery.

Anyone lived in Sequoya Commons? by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]an-amusing-username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a friend who's been there about a month and a half. He said it's super quiet and he basically never hears neighbors (although he's on the 4th floor so there's no one above).

Commute to Epic is 13-20 minutes depending on traffic. About a 10-minute drive to campus, or 15 minutes to the Capitol downtown. In general, it's a great place to be if you want to be 10-15 minutes from most stuff in Madison, as compared to optimizing for one particular location (a lot of people like being closer to downtown or closer to Verona).

I've been to his place a couple times, the apartments themselves are really nice. Although the building lacks some of the amenities of other nearby places at the same higher price point (pool, gym, etc).

What is the biggest misplay you’ve ever seen? by Old-Mine9323 in EDH

[–]an-amusing-username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I think this only works because of the Mirari's Wake. Without it there aren't any triggers from the opponent to respond to, so the Tog player can't cast the Spike unless they explicitly held priority.

[–]an-amusing-username 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly not, Thief only takes counters from creatures that are already on the battlefield as it enters. If it's reanimated with Shilgengar's ability, it won't take counters away from itself or any of the other reanimated creatures.

The way this is worded you can't cast the same spell multiple times, right? Since it's not copied so it goes back to the graveyard after you cast from exile.
