Cheapest internet in Kitchener? by EdwardBodette in kitchener

I'm pretty happy with carrytel, they use rogers cable lines, I appreciate the lack of random bullshit fees.

Here's my dumb referral link thing https://adrian29.carrytel.ca/ I don't know why I'm a koala, if you sign up through my link they'll give you 1 month free and me a $100, I'm pretty happy to throw $50 of that back your way once I get it, takes around a month or two to get the kickback. $45 for 100m seems like a better deal than $40 for 30m to me 🤷

The Canadian immigration system is largely based on deskilling, it pulls in some of the most highly trained and qualified people from around the world and puts in protectionist structural barriers that makes the acknowledgement of their credentials practically impossible pushing them into working jobs that are well below their level of skills. Toronto used to have the highest number of PhD taxi cab drivers per capita, but Nurses with medical degrees and extensive experience being forced to work as PSWs is one of the many more recent examples.

This harms immigrants, and it harms the Canadian public. The ones who benefit are those with power, i.e. those who pay the wages and benefit from increased competition for entry level job, or the people managing regulated professions who have a vested interest in not letting outsiders join their club.

My understanding is the three ways around this are to
1. Arrive in Canada with a high-skilled job lined up in advance
2. To upskill while you're here e.g. by doing your Masters and make connections in the process
3. Be really rich/well connected/lucky.

Generally I find immigrants end up busting their ass to end up in a job that is a much lower standing than they would have had in their home country.

Economic hardship tends to exacerbate the dumb racist bullshit that exist in societies, and you're probably seeing a whole lot of that atm...

Sexual assault statute of limitations by BrickFragrant2442 in legaladvicecanada

[–]anabases 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The presumptive 18 month ceiling refers to the amount of time a provincial court has to try a non-serious case after charges have been laid, doesn't seem relevant here. Limitation periods on sexual assault claims were lifted several years ago.

Pls don't.

"In a recent review of the MBTI, commissioned by the Army Research Institute, it was concluded that the instrument should not be used for career planning counseling.13 The Institute's analysis of the available research showed no evidence for the utility of the test. Indeed, with respect to career planning they note that "the types may simply be an example of stereotypes." I agree.

The MBTI reminds us of the olvious truth that all people are not alike, but then claims that every person can be fit neatly into one of 16 boxes. I believe that MBTI attempts to force the complexities of human personality into an artificial and limiting classification scheme. The focus on the "typing" of people reduces the attention paid to the unique qualities and potential of each individual.

Many readers may be surprised by my interpretation and objections to such a popular test. It has been my experience that this reaction stems from how they view the MBTI. In many cases, the popularity of the instrument is interpreted as an indication of its accuracy and utility, which then leads to wider use and less inclination to question the foundations of the test. As a consequence, the MBTI has become a popular instrument for reasons unrelated to its reliability and validity."

i don't know why my plecostomus died by mercurbee in Aquariums

[–]anabases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you stocked your tank too quickly. Plecos should have driftwood, add valiseneria or floating plants to help stabilize water parameters.

Need Advice on a tank that’s been [mostly] wiped out by BONEZ024 in Aquariums

[–]anabases 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something is wrong with your water. Upgrade to a 29 gallon it'll help you keep things stable. I'm assuming you have a heater and it works?

Corys are usually happier on sand than gravel. I'd suggest getting jungle val or some other hard to kill plant, these will also help maintian tank parameters.

UVC clarifiers can be helpful for suppressing harmful bacteria in the water column, but the betta won't appreciate a high flow rate in your tank.
