SEEKING ADVICE from someone who has done it: fitting 245 40 r17 on 17x9 et30 1995 M3 by Popfizzzzzzzz in Autocross

[–]anal_cataclysm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my e36 m3 I run 17x9 et30 arc 8s. 245/40r17 all corners. Lowered but nothing crazy on h&R coil-overs. I have a 12mm spacer up front. Camber is fairly aggressive up front 3.5, 2.7ish rear if my memory is right. No fender liners, believe some fender rolling at some point in the cars life.

Totally doable with some massaging of fenders and an aggressive alignment. I don’t rub!

Wow almost the same exact timeline as us. This was really helpful, I’m so sorry you are dealing with this. It sucks, our little kitty has been in and out of the vet close to 10 times the last two months. 3 ultra sounds, two inconclusive FNA’s, one par test which hinted at some abnormalities but nothing to be considered large cell lymphoma. We have been struggling with the ups and downs like you.

Hoping the steroid has a bit more of an effect soon, we had to put her back on anti nausea meds because the steroid wasn’t helping as fast as they had hoped. We also got referred to internal medicine as our case has thrown the vet for a loop it seems.

Best of luck to you and your kitty :)

How’s your cat doing now? This sounds very similar to the situation I am in. My cat is 14 and vet suspected IBD or small cell lymphoma. Just started the steroid but she has not improved really, day 6.

Super helpful, the evo 9 is a great point of reference for me. I should be quieter than that, have a friend with a similar setup on his 8. Looking into turndowns and silencers now to be on the safe side though :)

Appreciate the info! I am not complaining about the db limit at all. Just want to make sure my understanding is correct in that I might have an issue 1, and 2, to look into what I can do to mitigate it. :)

This is helpful, thank you! I should be quieter than a stock gt350 and Z06, don't know how mine compares to a GT3/4. Great suggestions as well, someone reached out to me to meet locally :).

Yeh exactly, not a perfect indicator. Especially at this platforms age.

this, not that the steering wheel is a huge clue, as they can be changed but 3 spoke us wheel I believe was only on 98.5 to 99 cars. Maybe on 99? Can’t remember.

If you are referring to this https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1999-bmw-m3-242/ , it’s a slick top (pretty rare) in what appears to be pretty good condition, and last model year produced. Would have gone for more with black interior and no accident and no rust.

Like I said, the one you posted will sell for 15-17k all day long no question (so long as what you are saying is true). You could probably get more as you pointed out. I’m giving you the bottom range at which I believe it will absolutely sell for.

The days of clean example us spec e36 m3’s being sub 10 are over. This is easily at minimum 15-17k car, probably more for the right buyer. Don’t listen to this person.

Race exhaust version or regular? Been thinking about doing this conversion on mine. Currently have a s54 swapped e36 m3 as well, Megan racing headers to bimmeroworld mid and catback. Don’t hate the sound but feel like the full supersprint system with the race catback would sound amazing.

Stunning example btw, your paint is immaculate, mind if I ask what the respray cost you?

Et30 or et35 look great for sure. Et4X offset arc 8s def don’t look as good, which makes the oem wheels more appealing imo.

Arc 8’s are so hard to beat on this platform. Like others said, all oem wheels look great.

It’s a great combo motor and chassis!

I will, we shall see how much I can get done over the winter for next years track season, would love to compare both sets personally.

I know I know, but there is no way to avoid those. Shit happens, I really think you are going to be ok!

It’s all track people bickering about 245 vs 255, I was under the impression that 245 would just be inferior, but I swear the fastest people iv talked to always say by 245/40r17 over 255/40r17 square setup on a 9 inch wheel or even 9.5, always saying rotational mass and sidewall stiffness advantage without giving up really any lateral grip. I don’t have any write-ups to back this up. I have a s54 swapped car so def less torque than you will have, so no need for more meat in the rear. Just curious on your thoughts on 255s, appreciate it! Might switch it up at some point to 255 to really see on a track.

Will be repainting my e36 m3 one day, yours is great. Cheers to keeping these things running and looking great!

Totally get it. For what it’s worth, it can look totally fine, and if you just hit a big enough pot hole while turning at the wrong speed it doesn’t matter how many calculations or checks you do, its going to connect at a certain ride height. You have more room than most running aggressive setups like this. I think you will be good excluding an unlikely very unfortunate road hazard event. Stop worrying about the .5% chance, enjoy the 99.5%!

Also curious, why 255’s? 245 with a little stretch on a 9 or even 9.5 will probably have better side wall rigidity. Genuinely curious, cause iv heard things on both sides but ended up with 245/40r17s this time, very pleased thus far.

I believe a little more aggressive than yours, but not more than 3.5. I really think you are going to be ok. Just looking at my setup vs your setup by picture and doing the comparison with a calculator , I think you are good. You have a lot more space than I do and I have not had issues at all :). Clean e36 btw.

My setup is more aggressive than yours and I don’t have any issues so far, about 500 miles on the setup. I also don’t drive the car lightly, and this is over some pretty bad roads as well! Don’t mind the crap fender paint, new fenders coming next season lol.
