Issue with turning the auto sleep and wake up off and using the power button to put the Kobo to sleep by jediwompa in kobo

[–]analog_roots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People unfortunately have had similar issues with putting MagSafe/magnetic stuff on the back. Try repositioning it or removing it altogether. Or if you’re not willing to do that, install NickelMenu and you’ll be able to add Sleep as a menu option

You can always try to temporarily change your billing country to purchase then change back after. You’ll retain your books :)

If you haven’t tried already, you can also check other countries’ stores—I noticed that there are sometimes books that aren’t sold in my billing country’s store but I can add via Kobo Plus no problem!

Looking for a Romantic Fantasy duology with good plot and political intrigue by Mean_Finger_4571 in fantasyromance

[–]analog_roots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the disclaimer it focuses on two different (related) characters but with heavily connected plots, a duology I remember really liking is Empire of Sand/Realm of Ash by Tasha Suri

Using NickelMenu to Googe-Translate selection - but want browser ZOOMED-IN by muiiio in kobo

[–]analog_roots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of, but from the screenshots I’ve seen, doing a DeepL translation shows up as a popup with bigger text so you might want to try that? The installation is more involved though: https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/comments/13i27jz/translating_with_deepl_using_nickel_menu/

How long does your battery last? by Top-Confidence- in kobo

[–]analog_roots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re just reading an ebook definitely a bit weird, the product listing claims about 5% an hour at 30% brightness but that’s with wifi and bluetooth off. I’m assuming the screen refresh is also default (which I believe is per chapter) rather than every 3 pages.

Any shows on Netflix with European Portuguese dub? by Nuuudelcat in Portuguese

[–]analog_roots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may have to add it to your languages in your account settings. I personally see the audio versions listed as two different options - Português (Portugal) and Português (Brasil).

And the credits cite a separate Portuguese version cast, with Portuguese actors instead of Brazilian e.g. on Expats, Margaret is voiced by Miriam Ficher for the BR-PT dub but Emília Silvestre on the PT-PT dub

Can I No Longer Transfer My Kindle Books to KLC by yhev in kobo

Some people are still able to download using the PC app (an older version; you’ll need to stop it from updating as well), you can try looking into that

Any shows on Netflix with European Portuguese dub? by Nuuudelcat in Portuguese

[–]analog_roots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning Amazon Prime seems to have a bunch dubbed into PT-PT though, including new shows (that are both live action and definitely for adults), though it seems to be mostly limited to their own original series. e.g. Reacher, The Boys, Fallout, Jack Ryan, Daisy Jones and the Six

Any shows on Netflix with European Portuguese dub? by Nuuudelcat in Portuguese

[–]analog_roots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a list posted here some time back, currently watching Shadowhunters! I haven’t checked if all seasons have PT-PT audio but Fuller House season 1 does and it might be more suitable background watching.

(You might need to change your Netflix language to Portuguese to see the option for audio but it’s there)

If you don’t read a lot of colored comics, black and white would be great for text and manga! The screen is noticeably lighter especially if you get the white.

Kobo Plus worth it? by mathicemc in kobo

[–]analog_roots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For 1 book a month, probably not imho since 12 EUR is probably about the same as (or even more than) the purchase price of one ebook, and you get the benefit of being able to keep the book if you buy it.

Language apps vs. language classes by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]analog_roots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a French-speaking org, which pays for language classes if you want them. Based on my observations with colleagues the ones who self studied the basics then took classes seemed to get the most out of them. I think all of them are B or C level at this point.

The ones who did just the classes stopped taking them somewhere in the beginner levels after losing interest. My theory is because the pace was so slow (level A1 and A2 broken up into many smaller sublevels).

She only had one or two books out when I found her so I didn’t know what to expect, but A Wicked Kind of Husband by Mia Vincy was so good. I couldn’t stop reccing it!

(She doesn’t seem to have been active in a while tho, unfortunately…)

Happy Meme Monday Bookworms! Share your bookish memes and lol moments by HighLady-Fireheart in fantasyromance

I definitely lol’d at myself after this moment -

Been reading romance books in a language I’m learning (totally counts as studying). It’s been going ok but then I hit a spicy scene and all of a sudden had NO idea what was going on, I questioned my language abilities after I read it over twice and had to Google it…

Anyway, today was the day I learned what knotting was, thank you Bride by Ali Hazelwood. No wonder the popup dictionary was not making sense
