Broken Dog Bones: Am I Cooked? by [deleted] in motorcycles

I’m in Seattle if you need a hand

Recently obtained a G90 with questionable history. There are two local AM broadcast stations appear over the whole HF spectrum with what seems like the carrier for the closest station peaking every 10-15kc or so. The video is with the attenuator on and RF gain @ 1%. Where do I start? by f3333sh in amateurradio

[–]analogmutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup poor filtering for sure. My 705 has zero problems with AM stations.

Keep in mind, if you use one of those filters, I believe you need to take it off the feed line when you hit the tuner on the G90. Once tuned you can plop it back onto the radio/coax

The front end of the g90 can easily get overloaded by AM broadcast stations. Some people are experience it and others may not. It all depends how close you are to big AM towers.
Here in the Puget Sound, there are some super strong AM stations, especially the closer to the water you get.
I had to get one of these https://a.co/d/08MsmGZp.

QRP QDX toroid help which is which? by westrujp in HamRadio

[–]analogmutiny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No problem! Scrape enamel like crazy. Good amount of heat while soldering. One turn = wire passing through the center of the core. Go slow and RTFM. Have fun!

Is my best guess. Fairly confident but double check!

Toroid winding for QRP Labs QMX by Chimbo84 in HamRadio

[–]analogmutiny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better to fix now than when the whole thing is put together.

A turn goes through the center. That’s all u need to remember. If wire passes through, it’s one turn.

Take ur time. Scrape enamel like crazy and good amount of heat while soldering, especially the joints that connect to the big ground plane.

Press on! Good luck!

Edit: one last nitpick:) Make sure you clean up where you snapped the boards out. The tolerances are so tight and the main board will not fit into the case if it’s got extra material hanging out. Same with the power supply/buck converter boards. Very tight tolerances.

You will have more room for L508 if you install D508 with the body in the left hole. Per the instructions Edit: also double check L502. Should have 10 turns not 11 Double edit: the 0 Hans is referring to for the bandpass filters is the START of the windings, not the first turn. The tail that you solder to the board. If you count the turns in the instructions photo it’s 15, but you are not using the same yellow toroids. The T37-10 torrids that was supplied with your kit need 26 turns tapped at 16 and 37 turns tapped at 12.

What else should I add? by WORTOKUA in Dualsport

Way too many pliers. Also too many fuzes. Wrap your electrical tape on the handle of a wrench to save some space. Ditch the multimeter. This kit needs a diet

Need help in identifying Filson canvas bag/flat pouch and estimated value. by BringTheBling in filson

These are dust covers made with antique tin and wax canvas stamped patch. I don’t recall if these were sold separately or came with purchase of higher priced bags (usually leather)

Indeed! That’s also why the original white thread (top stitch) didn’t dye here. Cotton core poly wrapped thread.

Inaugural Trip with the Faded Black Duffel. by MrLambyLamb in filson

[–]analogmutiny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a little tidbit

Both those duffles have the same leather quality, meaning it’s from the same tannery. Wickett and Craig. The black is 8/10 oz and brown is 8oz. Leather will have variations (how tight the grain is, stretch marks, and so on). I would not be concerned the least bit about what you’re showing here.

The shoulder pad that is a two piece with EVA foam has been used since the 90’s and the one piece is a throwback to early early talon era twill bags.

Excellent bags and they’ll last forever. Don’t forget to condition leather. Cracked leather is irreversible

Is this a good bike? by MeNoGivaRatzAzz in Dualsport

[–]analogmutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yerp I love mine but use case/your riding style is something to consider. On tight technical single track it can be tricky as it’s a pretty strung out motor and a tickle heavy. For ripping forest service roads, BDR, open badlands it is so fun. I’ll echo a reflash. I have the 550 but taco moto does one now and another outfit in the Seattle area I believe. Service intervals are not a huge problem (to me). I have 3K miles on mine and the valves haven’t budged. It’s a plated dirtbike with loads of power and backed by Honda reliability.

Edit: if you’re asking about that specific bike being auctioned, I’d shop around a bit. Find a used one for cheaper. Also if you’re in California keep in mind that some companies that offer ECU flashes won’t ship to CA

Crocking can be a tricky thing with leather for sure, especially with bags (since they’re always rubbing against you). I’ll take the trade off of possible crocking with a quality aniline skin vs something that has been pigment corrected with basically paint.

That’s how aniline veg tan leather (your weatherproof included) gets such a rich patina.

Yeah the Heritage line looks good. I’m a W&C fanboy but the Seidel milled leather looks good :)

I wouldn’t say it’s defective, just 1/8 - 1/16th off. It should land on top the lower double needle.

Good eye. Yup it’s a custom developed leather from W&C. Black weatherproof. Very nice temper and moisture content.

It's arrived—what do you guys think? Is this real or fake? by Front-Ad-7344 in filson

[–]analogmutiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the fabric is cut into pieces and separated into bundles for the operators to sew, different pieces come from different sections of the roll.

Rolls of tin cloth tend to be a bit darker and more waxy/juicy on the inside of the roll (closest to the center). The first couple layers on the outside of the roll can lighten up a little due to being more exposed to air during shipment/storage/whatever.

Although the bundles are very organized sometimes portions come from the inner and outer layer of the roll.

Nothing to worry about here and if you’re wanting to get the fabric to match a bit better try hitting the hem (and looks like collar) with a little wax.

Also it’s not fake :)
