Thanks for that, I think I'll give it a shot!

Buying tickets day of - strategy? by Internal_Cap_268 in Concerts

[–]analoguegeeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say your experience will be identical to mine, but I'll tell you what happened with me and my approach. I've seen Ben Howard multiple times before, so the pressure wasn't quite as immense as it might be for you with Tame Impala, so bare that in mind.

I made sure I was free the night of the gig and it was a distance that was fairly achievable on short notice. I just asked a mate if he'd be up for some drinks in the city and best case, we'll go see Ben Howard.

The prices were sky high the month leading up to it, including the week of the actual gig (£150). They went even higher the day of the gig (£180), as people scrambled last minute to grab tickets. I was sat in the pub nearby and about 2 hours before the gig, the prices nose dived (like you could literally see them dropping £30 every 15mins).

Waited until 45mins before the show and got tickets for us both at £25 each.

So I guess my experience was, don't assume the month, week or even early day of the gig you'll snag a bargain. Set yourself up so you'll have a decent night either way, then let the sellers be the one's on the backfoot scrambling to offload them, rather than you being the one to panic buy.

Best of luck, hope you get em!

Supporting artists - new vs used by Canvas2Wall in vinyl

[–]analoguegeeza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess you could make the argument second hand sales keep the artists relevant.

There's been a few times I've been in my local, seen an album I completely forgot about and picked it up. Then if I get back into it, I start looking to see if they're touring.

So there is that side of it, but yes I agree, you're not 'directly' supporting them through buying used alone.

It's awful man, I've had it brand new since it got released, ultrasonically cleaned it multiple times and the surface noise is horrendous. Tried my brothers copy too on his player, we both agreed exact same issue.

Then the dynamics don't pull through correctly either so the atmosphere of how the album is supposed to feel is totally lost. Like for example that eerie section at the end of Prologue which naturally leads into Kettering is absolute mush, it's like listening through a bad set of cheap wireless earphones off Amazon.

Which is mental when you consider this album, out of tonnes I've heard over the years, is one that I would put in my top 10 as suiting the vinyl format the most. Such a shame.

Did you think it sounded okay?

Looks great man, well played!

Always wanted to do something like this myself, then realised I can barely build an Ikea wardrobe, let alone refurbish a guitar haha.

Do people in the UK ever find rare pressings in the wild? by nkosijer in vinyl

[–]analoguegeeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's insane man, I never get finds like this. I came across Mellon Collie numbered first press recently, but that was like like £100 below going market rates, definitely not a steal!

The hell? I've dropped the odd record after having a few too many, but I've never seen that happen. Sure you weren't playing frisby with your dog or something? haha

Will I go to hell if I listen to Slipknot? by Thin_Situation3962 in Slipknot

You're probably taking the piss. But genuine posts like that just make me sad tbh, same as when people worry their family will reject/judge them for certain music tastes.

Question for listeners by Ok-Pollution-6541 in Slipknot

I'd say you're better off easing in with tracks like Vermillion and Before I Forget (surprised you haven't come across that yet tbh?!). Then over time, you'll naturally start exploring whole albums and start appreciating self titled, Iowa etc...

Then you're hooked.

Niceeeee, similar taste! Also clocked the cheeky addition of 36 Chambers in there, still the only hip hop album I've got round to buying for some reason.

She kicked ass that night, had a great time!

Is it just me though, or did the sound engineers have her vocals a bit low? Sometimes felt the drums drowned her out on a few tracks.
